From what I know is scientifically lime is a good energy absorber which is why used for good and bad. so for example as puvanan bro said kani that have given in kovil absorbs a lot of good energy and filled with positive energy since they did a lot poojai and all, and when you get that kani it will protects you from negative energies, same concept goes for the negative energy where the lime used for black magic and all will fill with negative thoughts and intentions. So basically lime is a good energy absorber.
