  • Grammy award-winning Country Music superstar Cole Swindell pulls up a chair at the big wooden table to have a chat with good friend Dale Earnhardt Jr. The two giants in their perspective industry have a special bond. They open up about the loss of their fathers and mothers and how they each found ways to cope with unthinkable loss. It's a conversation that brings us closer to how Cole, who lost his father in a freak accident as a child, and his mother to illness recently, was able to carry on. He didn't miss a beat, playing his popular song, "You Should Be Here" in front of packed audiences for an even deeper meaning. We learn how the particular song brought Dale Jr. and Cole together.

    This made my morning...I'm not a sports guy, don't golf, boat, not even football...Just a car/music guy thanks to my dad 💖 I was at the first Daytona 500...9 years old...1959...
    Thanks dad!
    I was working in Atlanta for the phone company when dad passed in 1988, he was only 64...I still think about him and cry...
    Dale & Cole...THANK YOU!!

    The one thing no one seems to get is when you lose your parents you lose that unconditional love, no matter what you did they love you and although you may marry it’s great, really not the same love, it’s love but different, that person can change, but losing that unconditional love is the hardest thing I’ve personally felt with and lord knows I’ve been through a lot!! Thanks for sharing your story, I go back to a time when things were simple by just pressing play on my phone and I’m thankful how much a simple song, (esp deeps ones like his) takes me home again.

    I was fortunate to know Mr. Keith most of my life because his sister law is my aunt. Not Cole’s mom. The man was always so cheerful and joyful with amazing humor. Great family.
    (I do not know Cole nor have I ever met him.)
    I could totally see Sr and Mr Keith hanging out with loads of laughter.

Then seeing and hearing of what his mom was going thru.. I too had a mom dealing with cancer ! Lost her battle 28 days before Dale lost his mom ! Amazed we may have never met in our journey of life but we are closer than either would know ! This episode tore me up inside ! Same song first time I heard it brought me sorrow and joy of remembrance Of my Dad too ... Worlds apart yet so close to home !!

    My younger brother who was 48 at the time passed away from kidney failure after being placed in a NC hospice. I have often said I'd rather lose someone to a tragic accident then to have to watch a loved one suffer for days and weeks on end like my brother did. Not only was my brother suffering but to watch the pain my Dad went through knowing he couldn't help my brother was the absolute worst thing I have ever experienced.

      I am so sorry for your loss. My dad fought and lost to cancer after 9 years.. Watching him suffer for the last 6 years of it bed ridden was awful. I hate hearing people say "just be glad you had time to say goodbye" I honestly wish I hadnt.

    • @jordany7018
      @jordany7018 3 роки тому

      My dad died from ALS at 70yrs old in 2014. We had 4.5yrs of what was in the end, a pretty miserable existence, and certainly a trialling time for my family. But we got to say goodbye, not only that but we also had time to prepare, for many things. That said, it is not something I’d want anyone to have to live through. My best friend of 40yrs got a phone call 2 mos later. His dad passed suddenly, and out of nowhere (aneurism). To say it Crushed the entire family, whom had many, many plans together to still see through, is putting it mildly, and they haven’t been the same since. Having lived through both experiences i will never stop telling people that have to painfully watch their loved ones pass(ing) through illnesses or diseases to be thankful for the opportunity to grab some semblance of closure.

    • @oldermusiclover
      @oldermusiclover 3 роки тому

      that is true in some ways, but one good thing about an illness that goes on you have more time to get prepared as far as drawing up a will, and getting funeral stuff taken care of. if you have not done it PLEASE DO IT. sudden death can be really hard, lost two people that way, one to suicide and one to a tanker truck accident.

    I have to admit, I'm one of the older fans of the DJD-PC, so when I saw the guest was Cole Swindell, my thought was "is he Sammy or Jeff's boy?" LOL!
    I obviously hadn't heard his music, but after dialing some up, on my Slacker radio app, I enjoyed a few of his tunes very much, including "You should be here" After losing My Bio Father in 2019, then My Step-Father of 57yrs in 2020, I've gotta say that Cole's song for his own lost Father fits purty damn well for the two I lost. My Beautiful Daughter will be marrying a very lucky young buck come April, think I'll have the DJ spin Cole's song at the wedding reception, I'll delicate it to both of my Daughter's grandfather's, then I'll raise my Jim Beam glass & wash down my tears with it 🙏✝️
    Btw, Damn Cole looks alot like a young Jeffrey Earnhardt!
    You sure that boy ain't a Earnhardt 😳?? LOL!

    My dad is fighting terminal cancer as we speak. He had one request that hits me in the gut. Helplessness is the worst fight. And that's my side. His side is way worse. I love that song you should be here I think back a few years ago in 2017 I lost my dad both grandparents then my brother, then a cousin and four military brothers, due to suicide one military brother in a car wreck. That was basically suicide, one military brother and a boating accident, and then went through a rough divorce, kind of surprisingly all within less than 9 months in 2017 and only seeing my kids six times since 2017 I remember the first time hearing this song

    I can completely relate to this topic. My mum passed after a long battle wth cancer. I was 19 & she was 48. Nine years later I lost my dad to a sudden heart attack. As I age, I’m troubled with the thoughts I didn’t get to know my mum but her passing brought my dad & I much closer. So much so that when he passed, I lost not only my father but my best friend, my confidant. I felt so alone and lost for many years. It’s been 35 & 27 years respectively since their passing & there are many, many times I wish they were here to talk to, ask advice or for them see what I’ve accomplish and what I’ve become. Hang in there boys. The pain lessens with time but for me never goes away. Take care & stay safe. Cheers

    In my case, things are a lot different. My parents abused me severely. I am 59 years old, and I have quite a few scars to show the abuse. My father died back in 2009. I was SO happy, because of what he did to me. My mother is still living, she was the one that did the most abuse to me when I was a kid. I can't wait for her to die. I wish I would have had better parents. I went into the Marine Corps to get away from them. Which that wasn't any better but I did 8 years. But today I have helped so many people with their own lives that is what gives me pleasure in life. So when someone looses a parent or loved one I like to pray for them or just give them comfort. I think that is what everyone needs these days. Oh well that's my story and I am sticking to it. LOL. Y'all take care.
