yes i was just on pets4homes for any hamster that needed adoption, not planning on getting any but I found one that had been there for a while and I felt so bad I ended up adopting him 🙈

Omg the second advertisement is the "breeder" I got my first mice from when I was very inexperienced with looking for breeders. One of mg female mice passed away within less than a year from a heart condition. PLEASE do not buy from her.
I got my original breeding lines from Norfolk Mice and I couldn’t recommend them more, they have recently started to breed show mice a lot more and they are just so stunning 🥺 The owner is so wonderful Aswell ❤️
I adopted my mice from a lady on pets4homes in January. I did quite a bit of digging and asked her a ton of questions before deciding to adopt from her. she was downsizing her group from 9 mice to 5 so I adopted all 4 mice from her after some discussion with family. they were living in an ikea detolf and she gave me a ton of information about them individually and was happy to send me as many photos or information as I needed/wanted and she was asking me for a ton of photos of my setup and how much I knew about mouse care too so she really wanted them to go to somewhere good. unfortunately they are a little older at about a year and a half old and one recently passed away due to a seizure but otherwise they were all lovely, of course the seizure was no fault of the previous owner since she had no previous health issues prior to this point. so it definitely is possible to adopt from these sites but please be careful, especially when meeting them to pick the animals up and ALWAYS bring someone with you
10:39 i actually messaged this person a couple days after this add was posted as I was looking for mice, they’re not too far from me and I saw the terrible set up. They never responded to my message so I just hope the mice went to someone with knowledge of proper care.
Thank you for bringing awareness to this! When I first got my rats I did enough research to know not to go to a pet store, but I didn't realise there were so many questionable breeders out there. I got three of mine from a backyard breeder and although I love them and wouldn't be without them, they were so hard to socialise and still, even a year on, are very uncomfortable being handled and scare quite easily. I'm now in contact with a great breeder here on youtube for my next boys which I'll be getting hopefully in a few months time, so yes, thank you for this video and for educating people
I LOVE that you did a video on this because I usually look on these sights to rehome and a lot of the adverts make me extremely upset. It's nice that you are telling people what to look for with these sights as backyard breaders usually only cause heart ache for everyone involved :(

Hi Emi! Could I use parrot play grounds and bird play grounds for rats and mice? If so do you recommend them? I've never really seen them in your videos before. Thank you! PEACE. LOVE. JOY! ❤🐶🐹
Do you have any tips on how to find responsible breeders for rats Bc my rescue shelters don’t have any, and I don’t want to support pet stores but it feels like the pet store is the easiest option, I wasn’t really sure how to look for breeders, and with covid and all
ive found the best way to find rat breeders is to google “ratterys in *your state*” and you should find some facebook pages of breeders. of course, you should go through them all and not just pick one at random. or, you could join some facebook groups and ask them if they know any breeders that are in your area. hope this helps! :)
The mice at 10:32 are the ones I wanted to get but 1. She didn't reply and 2. Mum wouldn't let me They would have gone into a hamster heaven. If they are still available when I get paid I might still get them and foster them till I find a suitable home for them
My first 2 girls were rescues from a selling site and although they were gorgeous siamese mice, they had a lot of health problems, especially with tumours. All my other mice are from breeders who I trusted more because they had adoption screenings and shared their mouse set ups which put me at ease!
Ok so I used to have 3 rats and I had to get rid of them because I was having a slight allergic reaction ( like itching and sneezing) but also because their smell was really bad. I recently have been missing them and am seriously considering getting rats again. Am I stupid for doing this? Any tips for smell?
Hey! I have a small question. So I’m fairly new to owning rats, I just got my first girls back in September (their names are basil, bramble, and ivy and I would die for them) and your videos have helped a lot, but I still can’t really tell the difference between them being playful, exited, and scared as a lot of the body language is the same. I know some people say to see if the blue part of their eyes is showing but I can always see the blue part of Ivy’s eyes so that doesn’t really work. Do you have any advice? I really want to play with them more but I’m afraid of scaring them.
So, I have a question regarding mice. I'm planning to get mice this year and I've seen this one ad where someone is giving away a free female mouse with a cage (cage way too small, I wouldn't use it), the ad has been posted several times. I've been thinking, that if the time comes when I have everything ready and the female mouse is still there and if I got her, would it be possible to introduce her to other females? There's not much information on the ad, but I think the mouse could be somewhere around the year. I'm scared that if she's been kept alone for a long time, it would be harder to introduce her to others (I would really like to start with 3 females).
She will need introducing to other female mice or a neutered male asap, if that's not something you feel comfortable doing with a mouse that might be a bit trickier I would be tempted to give it a go or maybe leave it to someone who can integrate her with a bit more experience. I ship worldwide with my store! You can either pay via paypal or bank transfer :)
@@Emiology I feel so bad for her and would love to help her, but I'm not experienced with mice yet. At the same time, the mouse care here is pretty bad and people go by the laboratory care standards for them. I'm part of a rodent group in my country and there are hardly any people there who have mice. I feel like someone might just get her for their kid, because it's free with a cage. I have to think about it more, but I've kind of already fallen in love with her, she just seems so sad in that small cage all alone. As for pins, I think I might just get one when the cream ones come out, if I'm fast enough. Thank you! ❤

I’ve tried guiding her away from my finger slowly and she starts biting instead of chewing so I have to put her back. I wash my hands throughly before I handle her and my other two do not do this.. help plz lol
My bad if this is already answered on your channel (maybe someone who frequently watches her mouse videos would know!) but I’m curious what is lining the wheel? :)
what sucks is that in my area there are never female mice that aren't from pet stores. I have a male but I would like to neuter him and house him with some girls but I can't ever find any at shelters, rescues, websites, breeders. there are none within a 150 mile radius.
yesterday I got a very tiny baby mouse, her eyes aren't even open yet, (I'm fairly certian it's a female) I would've just left her to be with her mama, but my dog was going to eat her and that's how I found her in the first place. she was a little injured and is healing up at the moment and I was gonna wait until she healed up to go back to her mama, but I found out the mama and her other babies vacated where they were because of my dog, so I decided to keep her. Over the night I found out a lot about mice (mainly from your channel, thank you ☺) and what I need to do, but I would like to know if training her and keeping her is going to be harder since she was born in the wild, even though her eyes arent open yet (and tips would help a lot too!)
Many years ago, I bought mice, and gave them to my sisters as a gift. Although I don't recommend it, they thrived and did quite well. They were loved and had a good life. I do t recommend getting mice or rodents if you haven't done your homework on their care.
I got 3 male Rats in July last year so I can not speak for mice but I think there is no big difference in behavior. When my rats reached the age of 6 months I began seeing them fight a bit more. I think sometimes you can see in the eating and sleeping behavior who is the leader but it can change and also sometimes you cant really determine it. Just keep watching them maybe in some time soon you‘re gonna see who is the alpha.
The Didn’t have the “breeder” I got my girls from but just be aware even if they look ok I couldn’t see the parents or go into their house to see the other mice.... and my girl Toffee has a neurological condition and my other girly Fudge has cage aggression I wouldn’t change them for the world of course but just remember adverts are set up to be made to look good
Oh my gosh, i can't believe the 4th one. I live near there and it doesn't surprise me that there is bad care. Alot of the Pets at home stores around give terrible advice on pet care. I rescued some mice around 1 year ago in a rescue. I would never, i repeat never get them from a breeder because its sad seeing all those animals who deserve a second chance. ~Hannah
what's the benefit of getting mice from a breeder vs just feeder mice? I got my three females from Petco which were not labeled as feeders but were seemingly meant to be feeders and 2/3 of them are angels that took to me really quick. the third is sort of a bully and doesn't like human interaction but is what it is they have their own personality I don't really think its a background thing. As an added benefit their life is only better for me adopting them they were just going to be fed to something or euthanized to be frozen anyway.
I was curious if you’ve ever thought of adopting show mice? I’m a fancy mouse breeder and I know the UK is one of the best places for responsibly bred healthy mice.
Oh okay, I meant buying I guess! I wasn’t aware! I’m obsessed with how beautiful some of the English Show lines can be, in the states we have some healthy lines but we haven’t quite reached the size beauty of English mice quite yet.
@@edwinbrown855 Some of the show mice I had had the most beautiful large ears, and some of the varieties out there are stunning. Unfortunately all of the show mice I've had have struggled to get past 1.5 years old, I think the health of them slipped a bit in order to achieve such extremes when it comes to their varieties, which is unfortunate and has slightly put me off getting anymore show mice for the time being, my rescues are just over 2 years old and going stronger than all my show mice who died from a range of tumours and horrible skin conditions :(
I think you’re right, there can be a risk there because even though we select for health, genetic diversity can help mask underlying health conditions (it’s called hybrid vigor) so pet store mice are probably the worst because they’re inbred and not bred responsibly but sometimes untracked lines (rescues) aren’t so bad the first generation because the bad genes haven’t been able to be expressed yet due to outcrossing.
HELP. I know you have mice and I have two. Yesterday I found one of my mice had a wound on her back. She looked super weak. She laid in my arms for hours. She survived the night ( I put her in a separate cage from the other mouse. There females. They’ve been together for almost two years. The other one who attacked choco ( injured mouse ) is obviously more dominant. But anyway I didn’t touch the wounds but I’ve been getting her to eat drink. She can walk and is getting on low hammocks so that’s good. But what do I do?? I can’t get to a vet at all. Help please I don’t want her to die🥺
I have two comments. 1) Some large studies have shown that keeping male littermates together helps promote health in male mice. "Weber et al. (2017) recommended keeping littermates together after weaning to help decrease aggression... Bartolomucci et al. (2002) concluded that keeping laboratory mice in same-sex sibling groups from birth provides the ideal social environment for their welfare." (www.nature.com/articles/s41598-019-51674-z). The trick seems to be to retain bedding material but remove soiled substrate when cleaning their cage. It is also recommended to house between 3 and 5 males together with no hides but lots of bedding material for the mice to make natural hides. Enrichment items may cause aggression so items, such as wheels, that only one mouse can use at a time, might cause a problem whereas a climbing gym, ladder, or bridge, that multiple mice can use at the same time, helps reduce aggression. Food should be spread evenly throughout the cage to be foraged. And mice should be kept cold rather than warm so they band together for warmth when sleeping. 2) Some advertisers use terms like "red and white" because most of the public won't know what "pied" or "banded" mean.
I was just wondering I was told I should get atleast one more mouse because of things like if one dies it would leave the other alone and I was wondering if you ar anyone else knew any American websites like this as I live in the US love your videos they help me alot
what does a back yard breeder actually mean I want to be a future hobbie breeder as i have enjoyed raising baby mice before and i want to proved the best care
Someone that hasn't done their research, doesn't understand genetics and health issues related to genetics, just throws together random mice that look cute and will make cute babies without thinking about what outcomes they will have genetically, over breeds their animals, breeds unethical or unhealthy varieties, doesn't engage with others in the community etc
its so frustrating seeing all these mice in terrible conditions 🥲. I did get 2 of my rats from pets4homes as they needed a new home as well as one of my hamsters who also needed rehoming so it’s not all bad as you said but I would not use pets4homes for breeders as you also said lol.
Emi I have a little tip for you! So I have a sand bath in my females enclosure and they poop in there and pee basically use it as a litter tray and they also use it as a disposal bin🤣🤣 And it has really helped me clean the cage 😊 And I do have to change the sand two or three times a week and then I clean their enclosure once a week! Hope it helped
Rats from the adoption section are okay as the money goes to the 'separate' charity. It's still a bit of a grey area as to whether it's the best thing to do, sometimes if they don't sell their rats quick enough they will move them into the adoption section to free up space for new younger rats to go in the store, so in that sense it's allowing more rats to be brought in from the mills and put on the store front, but as far as i'm aware they're not directly profiting from the adoptions.
I do have to say that my male deer mouse (thought he was a girl until tonight) and my male fancy mouse get along. Just establishing dominance lightly right now. But they are seperate species. So that probably impacts that. I do agree male fancy mice should not be kept together usually

what sucks is that in my area there are never female mice that aren't from pet stores. I have a male but I would like to neuter him and house him with some girls but I can't ever find any at shelters, rescues, websites, breeders. there are none within a 150 mile radius.
Omg I love ur channel I’m so excited to watch this video

I think UA-cam is also kinda mad about some bad ads with bad mouse care on the sites
Lol I said that about the views and likes 🤣

yesterday I got a very tiny baby mouse, her eyes aren't even open yet, (I'm fairly certian it's a female) I would've just left her to be with her mama, but my dog was going to eat her and that's how I found her in the first place. she was a little injured and is healing up at the moment and I was gonna wait until she healed up to go back to her mama, but I found out the mama and her other babies vacated where they were because of my dog, so I decided to keep her. Over the night I found out a lot about mice (mainly from your channel, thank you ☺) and what I need to do, but I would like to know if training her and keeping her is going to be harder since she was born in the wild, even though her eyes arent open yet (and tips would help a lot too!)
Where are some good breeders in Cheshire/crewe?
can u use eco earth for a dig box?
Eco earth works great in a dig box!
@@Emiology idk why but my eyes r litteraly watering because u commented back to ME!
Many years ago, I bought mice, and gave them to my sisters as a gift. Although I don't recommend it, they thrived and did quite well. They were loved and had a good life. I do t recommend getting mice or rodents if you haven't done your homework on their care.
Hey I just got 3 new female mice!! I was wondering how to tell who is the alpha! Any tips?

Aww the mice are so cute running around in the background!
hi,im thinking about getting a mouse,i watched a few of your old videos
I know that the 2 female mice in the habitrail cage have been adopted by someone who has a fantastic new set up for them :)
Oh that's such good news I'm so happy for them!
what's the benefit of getting mice from a breeder vs just feeder mice? I got my three females from Petco which were not labeled as feeders but were seemingly meant to be feeders and 2/3 of them are angels that took to me really quick. the third is sort of a bully and doesn't like human interaction but is what it is they have their own personality I don't really think its a background thing. As an added benefit their life is only better for me adopting them they were just going to be fed to something or euthanized to be frozen anyway.
I'm waiting for my mouse pin to come in. I'm in the US so I'm not sure how long it'll take but still SUPER excited!!
Hopefully it won't be too long! It is taking longer than usual for orders to get to the US because of covid, so it might be a few weeks!
@@Emiology Ah ok, don't worry about it I don't mind. ^^
Is there a difference between hamster care and mouse care? If so what?
Also are male mice solitary?
Nvm saw the video about males vs female mice but I’m still looking into mice vs hamster care
Is fabric bedding like fleece okay to use?
Love your videos 🥰
I was curious if you’ve ever thought of adopting show mice? I’m a fancy mouse breeder and I know the UK is one of the best places for responsibly bred healthy mice.
Adopting or buying? I've had show mice from breeders before :)
I luv ur hair Emi 🤩
what does a back yard breeder actually mean I want to be a future hobbie breeder as i have enjoyed raising baby mice before and i want to proved the best care
So I have a sand bath in my females enclosure and they poop in there and pee basically use it as a litter tray and they also use it as a disposal bin🤣🤣
And it has really helped me clean the cage 😊
And I do have to change the sand two or three times a week and then I clean their enclosure once a week!
Hope it helped
I've got a question I'd it OK if you buy adoption rats from pets at home or is it just supporting a pet shop I'm guessing it's not 🤔🐀
Rats from the adoption section are okay as the money goes to the 'separate' charity.
@@Emiology wow, so they are basically telling u Ur adopting when Ur really not!?😲
@@Emiology hi emi! Thank you for info! 😊
I might be getting the mice in the small ball cage thingy, I rescue so if I do they'll get to live a nice live in a 4ft tank x
Great video, I hate that anyone would even DREAM of using a habitrail though :(
I wonder how Hubble would like a cat tree
He already has a cat tree :)
Omg you replied and I did not know I got rats this year and you have been a great help with how to care for thx allot
I do have to say that my male deer mouse (thought he was a girl until tonight) and my male fancy mouse get along. Just establishing dominance lightly right now. But they are seperate species. So that probably impacts that. I do agree male fancy mice should not be kept together usually
I need help with my mouse diet
And this is why mousy is my favourite character in piggy
i get my mice from norfolk mice x loverly lady shes mainly on fb
I wish I could rescue all of these mice they shouldn't have to be pregnant during their tiny life span and/or living in bad conditions :(
