This is actually one of my favorite television series of all time. I think it perfectly represents the works of studying Shakespeare and representing a nonprofit arts organization despite the absurdity that sometimes takes place in the series. As one who has worked in the theatre industry in performance, backstage and the administrative side, I absolutely love Slings and Arrows.
I love this show! Fun fact - Paul Gross and Geraint Wyn Davies both acted in the Stratford Festival this past season. Many of the cast from the show were in the festival at some point.
I have been re-watching this great show on the Acorn Channel! Now I have found Paul Gross in the show "Men With Brooms" (Mark McKinney was also on another of my favorite shows Studio 60 on Sunset)
my daughter discovered it years ago and I just finished watching it for the third time on youtube thanks to scottishjohn's soul. It is so well done I just love it.
I think Slings and Arrows is brilliant. I've come to know it because the director Fernando Meireles was in Canada when it originaly aired and when he went back to Brazil was so into it that he directed a brasilian version of this show (in Brazil is "Som e Fúria"). I watched the brazilian version first in 2009 when it aired in 2009 and it profoundly affeted me. It is simple beautiful. Later on, I discovered the original version and feel in love with it too. I think that ultimately this show simply has what art should be all about, the effect of moving, warm and break your heart. Funny and deep show.
This show is unbelievably good and one of the best pieces of media in any language. Great analysis and ocarina playing. (Also, the shirt the girl's wearing at 17:32 is from the now-defunct Playdead Boutique in Toronto)
Shakespeare nerd here (so much so I have a masters in English Lit from 1550-1700): this show was huge in the performance and academic circles of classic literature. I and my peers likened Slings and Arrows to The Office, but for our realm of expertise. We fucking loved it and I love that you did too!
Just finished re-watching all of this for the third or fourth time. Just amazing on so many levels. If you've ever actually done theater there's an even more layers of things to enjoy (the stage manager/actor relationship for one.) Just beautiful tv.
This was on when I was in high school and it remains one of my all-time favorites, alongside _The Simpsons_ in its prime, _Seinfeld, Mad Men, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Frasier,_ and the original run of _Arrested Development._ Director Peter Wellington was kind enough to pop in on the AV Club's classic coverage and give some fun insights. I've wanted to attend the Stratford Festival ever since, but the timing has never been quite right.
I think it's just niche but anyone in theatre can relate. I hope with Mischief Theatre's Goes Wrong Show getting popular people may also find Slings and Arrows even though these shows are very different
Don McKellar, Colm Feore, Peter Keleghan, it's futile to name all the great performances in this show, you might as well name everybody. The performance that sticks out for me though is Oliver Dennis as Jerry Appleby. I don't think I've ever seen a better performance of "normal", he was absolutely perfect.
Just curious, do you relate everything to the Game Dude? Do you like call up your homies and say "yo wanna play smash like the game dude" and then quote Game Dude's smash review? Then do you play as Donkey Kong so you can go "look at me I'm Donkey Kong?"
I've said "look how much longer it takes to select Wario" a few times on character select screens. I like that he's become a running joke on this channel lol.
I saw an interview with the guy who played Jeffry. And he was like “ oh yeah that’s. I get asked about it a lot. Limit d Budget filmed in a couple of weeks. It’s like he forgot about it. The woman who played Ellen is his wife in real life. I found her playing this sex goddess a bit of a stretch. But aside from that and her bad haircut her talent is undeniable. Getting these hot young guys seems a bit of a stretch.
Slings and arrows is so underrated . The story is so unique and cast is so good.

Slings and Arrows - my favourite series- Mark MacKinny and Susan Coyne are spectacular. I have the DVDS and have watched it several times. ❤

I love this show. I feel like knowing about it gives me a special little favor I can do for people by recommending it.
Adore this show. One of my all time favourites

I loved this series. The entire context was human , funny and very poignant too . Especially for anyone that loves or has been in the theater.
I *loved* S&A. I've watched it over several times and found it on CBC Gem and Telus Optik. I wish it would come back.
this is a top 10 show of all time. thanks for making a video about it.

I adore this show, especially season one.
Best show I've seen in years. It's brilliant!
In '07 or so this was all the rage among the regional theatres I worked for.
That's cool. I grew up around theater people and I've never heard anyone talk about this show.
I think it's just niche but anyone in theatre can relate. I hope with Mischief Theatre's Goes Wrong Show getting popular people may also find Slings and Arrows even though these shows are very different
Love the video by the way great analysis
This is a brilliant series. I bought the DVD set years ago. Kirby playing Hamlet is remarkable.
100%! Love this show
i should watch that show huh? ps nice ocarina playing
Yeah I'd say so! And thanks!
Been a S&A fan since I was in high school (and admittedly kind of a Canadiofile... if thats a word).
You convinced me to watch the show 😁👍
Awesome! If I convinced even one person to do so then this video has accomplished its goal. 😊

All 3 .
Not to mention the skull .

@@okfinebethatway thats hilarious
Top five show
NPR was all over S&A. IIRC they said S&A along with The Sopranos were among the best of all time TV shows.
The pig truck .
