Do they have enough footage beyond a reasonable doubt to convict everyone in the truck? A great thing would be if they a were involved with some of the earlier cases & can be prevented from attacking a vulnerable game population.

It depends on the law there. Where I was casting rays if light on fields or woodlands is a violation, with a weapon in possession is another violation. Enough evidence to confront, probably get a confession and offer a plea deal to a lesser offense to keep it out of court. But it's in Canada so I'm not really sure how their courts work.

@@charliek5762 Used to put them out (not the sophisticated type you have) to prank the other spotlighters.
What isn't funny now days is the use of thermal and night vision. The claims about target identification are misleading and dangerous considering some of the excitable fools that use them. A big potential risk staking out an area for animals, and deer etc can be right beside you at times to give them something to shoot at, and if partially concealed you could easily stop one.

I have a special hatred for poachers and spotlighters. I remember sitting on the verandah one night howling in wild dogs and we watched a spotlight working along the road toward the house and all of a sudden, crack thump into the side of the house. We shot the shit out of the engine block of that car in retaliation.

Just heard from some friends that a Moose was killed this way and the shooter was caught. Besides not being allowed a license for at least 10 years, he lost not only the Moose but the rifle he used to kill it. The meat was distributed via a state program that people can sign up for and the rifle will either be sold or destroyed based on what it is. Too few people are caught but I'm so glad some are. Hopefully you have strict laws especially on the Roosevelt Elk.

I seen a huge buck on county land last year. Went up the road, parked, crossed road, loaded rifle and started a prayer filled stalk. Got close to the buck, couldn't see him, truck pulled up near where I seen it. 2 men get out, talk to each other 20 seconds, then fire from the road at the animal. Police come out of the woods shouting. I yell down I'm up in the woods. Officer comes to me and checks my licence and says ok, you're good to go. Not the same for the 2 men on the road.

Here they set him up off the paved roads heading back to the forest roads. I was glad I was brought up to try it the hard way "legal" way lol. I've had big bucks stand up in front of me in doe only seasons and watched them run away. One stood in front of me at about 20' once, he stayed looking at me forever it seemed like. Then a year later I bagged a huge one just like it only a few hundred yards away. I now think that was probably the same deer.

Is it against the law to be nature watching at night there?
If not the "we gott'em" is one of those premature ejaculations that result in disappointment and are only hot wind. And accusing nature lovers of having mental instability reasons for pursuing their interests just because some a... sucker doesn't like it because they want to kill the poor old harmless elk (magnificent creature to some) is pretty random, or selfish.
Since some actively campaign against actions to reduce pandemic spread by belittling mask wearing it is clear the latter exists among hunting exspurts in some places, but some believe anything.

There's a huge difference in hunting without a license or "improperly" if you need to feed your family and just going out to shoot something. I grew up in a very depressed part of Wisconsin and there was several times deer were taken out of season simply for food. Then it wasn't the prime bucks taken but just basically what could be found.

I remember one fall after Dad and I had been watching a herd of 20+ deer south of the Rideau River and west of Kemptville,ON. Opening Dad and the crew went into that area to hunt them. Dad went to the south edge of their territory with one other guy intending to walk through driving the deer north towards the rest of our small crew. . It was still moonlight and not legal light so the other guy says there's a couple of rocks over there, let's sit have a coffee and wait for the light. Dad knew that there wasn't any rocks in that field of long grass and said so. They walked over to discover it was the bloated carcasses of nearly all the deer. They walked over to the farm across the road and called a MNR Game Warden friend to report this. Further investigation by MNR, provincial and federal police found evidence of 4 that had been field dressed and taken. The farmer that Dad talked to told him that they had been machine gunned about 4 evenings ago. And he was visited the next day by a person with a heavy accent warning him not say a thing or he would be burned out (which had happened to a couple of other farmers who lost everything they owned. Apparently it was a gang from Montreal that used 2 cars, a pickup truck and a large van body truck. The first car is the spotter confirming the deer are where they have been seen on and off all fall using commercial two-way radios, the next vehicle is the pickup with a cap on the box but probably no roof on that. It is the shooting car with 2 or 3 gunners armed with fully automatic weapons that just sprays the field killing as many as they can. The next is the big truck with a crew that bails out, grabs what they want field dressing them kill quickly, then loading the carcasses and jumping into the truck and the 4th vehicle, leaving the scene. They were extremely well organized with a ready market in the city and I don't know if any of them were ever caught. This was about 50 years ago and I would imagine that with the weapons and technology that is available today, they could still be operating today much more selectively. That one slaughter really upset a lot of people, and I know that a lot of hunters would have liked a chance to return the favour, even up against that much firepower. It could easily be 7 or 8 gunners with automatic weapons if the spotter car turned and came back to join with the shooting.

It is a sad reflection on the state of this world and certain folks hearts. Money, profit and greed above ALL else! And having several vehicles and a crowd of hunters was not the way to do it. Neither is leaving carcasses about where they can be easily found (and wasting them defeats the purpose entirely, no carcass, no money). numerous guys who lost their gear as penalty (car, truck, rifle)
to confiscation. Harsh rules are necessary to protect game
animals re-introduced after being hunted to near extinction.

Not sure what they did wrong here. In AZ you can spot light all you want as long as you don’t have a weapon with you. Just saying if I’m cruising in the woods and have a spot light on me and an elk runs across the road I will probably light it up to get a good look at it. Spotlighting is actually a good way to scout in AZ. But laws might be different elsewhere..not sure?

I have watched alot of hunting shows were hunters are trying to locate elk heards. Up and down mountain sides, constantly glassing and calling. I have never hunted areas like this and never been elk hunting. Just curious, is it legal to send up a Drone to spot elk heards?

Just spotlighting like that should be a felony, we all know there's only one reason people do that and it's not to go sightseeing, it's to illegally kill and hopefully harvest game. Psychopaths doing that just to kill then leave the carcass is so unfathomable it's like trying to understand why serial killers do what they do, it just makes no sense whatsoever. There's been a few times I've come across some good old boys poaching deer out of season back in Appalachia and as much as it pissed me off and got me madder than hell, I always knew it was only being done because money was tight and those young men were feeding their families the only way they could at the time. That doesn't make anything about it alright but I can at least understand why. To hear people are out there spotlighting Roosevelt elk just to take the shot and make the kill then leave the scene hightailing outa there is just pure insanity! I hope to god your game wardens or whatever you call them up there have the power and authority ours do here in the states! Here ours are way more powerful than the police, ours are federal agents with broad sweeping authority giving them expedited access to whatever they need be it search warrants for homes or vehicles, they can pull people over and impound vehicles, seize firearms and all sorts of other property, let's just say in most states they have the tools to get the job done unlike the rest of our law enforcement.

In the mid 90s there were 200 tags offered Van Isle wide top all hunters. The elk were planted there by the government with all taxpayer dollars . The elk is not nor never had been native to Van Isle . Later in the 90s they gave half the available elk tags to the Aboriginal Communites to harvest . But as we all know they also pull their right to hunt card , even though these are not related to any of their stories as they were planted elk , and shoot what they want , when they want . So a lot of the local hunters I would talk to would say thing like We should just take what we want like the Bands do. A lot of grief for hunter that waited years for that tag, me included . One tag in 20 years entering . I lived in Campbell River and at night when I was coming back into town , there seemed to be more pick ups with rack lights driving out the logging roads . Sad situation
I Once asked the campbell river Band Chief if they kept count of what his band members shot ,thinking at least they must count so as not to overhunt , and he just laughed . Pathetic situation.

Good for you and your Brother Hunters Steve! These dirtbags give all hunters a bad name! When I was a young State Trooper, I used to ride around at night with a game warden buddy of mine , looking for poachers. Some of these dog breathes had a very refined system. They would call their regular ‘clients’ each fall and ask them what type of deer they wanted. Their customers could ask for trophy bucks or small bucks and does for freezer meat. These pieces of garbage made quite a bit of money doing this nefarious work each year. It was just a great feeling seeing you folks catch these idiots red handed. Keep up the great work Brother. Blessings from the sportsman’s paradise here in Louisiana! 👍🙏✝️

    • @fredmiller4110

You have to shoot the animal for it to be considered poaching otherwise it's just illegal use of a spotlight during hunting season which is a small fine in most places. That's what makes it so hard to catch poachers you have to have evidence of a kill.
