Apologies for calling Muse "Mute"! 😂 This is an early one in my react series. The format is changing to being quiet during the song...
Muse are known for going off on riffs and interstitial links between tracks when playing live. You really do need to see them live, they're amazing!
@Grobo Slazly And it was in the original version of Assassin "Debase Mason's Grog"
They are but in this case it was actually the omega boss remix version from the knights of cydonia single
As for Muse, their crown jewels in my opinion are: Showbiz, Citizen Erased and Space Dementia. Cheers
No Knights of Cydonia?
sure ? no knights of cydonia ? butterflies and hurricanes ?
Passion is shown in Showbiz (I love this album) but experienced and full-blown Muse is at their peak during Black Holes and Revelations. I know most of the people know Knights of Cydonia but the whole album is way too under the radar... City of Delusion, Exo-Poltiics, Invincible... the whole album!
@@felkr3w I agree, but Muse was at their peak (music and performance wise) during Absolution. I mean, just watch them perform Stockholm Syndrome at Rock AM Ring 2004!
I start with hysteria and starlight, then time is running out, the KoC, and then their most popular songs
But after discovering all of their song i fell in love with citizen erased. The song feel complete and perfect.
Great!! Next do Stockholm Syndrome from Glastonbury 2004
The outro is from the "Assassin grand Omega Bosses" version. (I think its called like this)
Exactly. However the extension in the studio version is in the middle instead of being the outro!
Citizen Erased on studio version is a masterpiece
I'll check it out
every fricking time I read Citizen Erased somewhere I'm overcome by the urge to listen to it really loudly :D it's just so good.
so brilliant those sequences
Please react to Plug in Baby live in Rome
Ok, thanks
Runnniiinnnggggg soooooloooooo!!!🤘😜 Panties were thrown.🎸
Oh yes...
Great song, not so often played.
The exit is sort of the "Grand Omega Bosses" exit version.
Matthew Bellamy partnered with Gibson and makes his own guitars. One major one including a synthesizer pad. And they do riffs between each song.
Cool idea
You mean Manson, not Gibson
The entire Absolution album by Muse is incredible!
Definitely check out Stockholm Syndrome Hysteria and Sing for Asolution
John Woodberry Sing for absolution *chefs kiss*
Also Hysteria has one of the best kick ass bass lines you will hear anywhere!
Dude new Suscriber!!!!
Listen Citizen erased and follow that song with micro cuts!!
Pleeeease more muse!!
Maybe smt of the new albums like uprising, mk ultra, reapers, drones, dark side.
Officially they are 3, technically live they have been 4 since 2006, wich is the date of that song :) He is often hidden somewhere, no idea if he was there on this live.
fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morgan_Nicholls
I think Morgan only plays when there's a part in the track that they can't play at the same time as their instruments right? like synths and keyboard
@@Samantha_Lee Yes he mostly fill what needs to be done. And there is a lot to be done.
@@guitop absolutely, he does a wonderful job considering how many elements muse loves to layer in the studio
On another subject, if you want a true modern prog band you can react to The Mars Volta, they are my favorite band. I suggest the songs: Tetragrammaton, Ilyena, Vermicide or Goliath
Roulette Dares (The Haunt Of) would be my pick
ok max, will do
ok, will check it
For me, "Drunkship of Lanterns" is my favorite The Mars Volta track, off of Deloused.
Hi Dean, really appreciate your video as I'm a big fan of muse. If you want absolute best live video of their's, consider listening to 'Micro Cuts Hullaballo' Thanks
Pineapple Thief, and Anathema are brilliant too.
I want to check them all out...list is piling up!
I don't listen to a lot of prog rock but one band I can recommend is Seventh Wonder, great and very talented musicians
Love them! Did a reaction ua-cam.com/video/f_JwQhbDhjo/v-deo.html
How about a lesson on the Saga classic “on the loose.” Sounds like some tricky guitar work going on there. Ian Crichton is very underrated.
Ian is a melodic giant
"Click bait face" 😲
😂😂😂👍
Mars Volta's first album please.
I'd challenge you to do a video explaining your definition of 'Prog Rock', and see how many bands fit in it
Funny you say that, I've been thinking about a video dissecting prog rock, what makes something prog roock. Stay tuned!
@@deanwolfechannel Looking forward to it. I wonder if it needs to be considered 'generational', that is, that was was considered 'prog rock' in the '70s and '80s is common fare in the '90s and '10s. Prog rock, conceptually, should be about breaking new ground, taking music to the next level.
2022 release 'The Limits Of Deviation' by the new UK band 'Genie Cries' check them out.
Listen to Soen!! All there stuff is amazing!
Ok
Hey man, if you want some modern prog. Please check out Karnivool. INCREDIBLE BAND out of Perth Australia (my home town). Basically any song off their "Sound Awake" album. "New Day" is my personal fav song but "Deadman" is probably the most proggy
You should check out some newer Opeth music. They used to be a prog death metal band but for the last 9 years they have dropped the growling vocals and are a straight up prog rock band. You should check out Sorceress and Strange Brew
Will do, thanks!
No not at all, it reports on new & old, many young artists embracing & playing prog. It's the only mag that gives us prog lovers what we need & keeps us right up to date, while reminding us of past legends, it's perfectly balanced & deeply informative. There's also now an official prog album chart & annual prog awards night annually in London, legends from the past & new artists attend & support it eagerly!! Dean I highly recommend you consider subscribing to the mag, or purchase a single copy to see what you think. The next edition is out I thi k, 4th or 5th of March, happy listening.
Wow, it sounds like a great magazine. Not sure why I passed over it...
Dean. I'd love to see you react to something from the Candian band MYSTERY. Lush, melodic & epic progressive rock with clear tenor vocals, some occasional flute playing & without so much of the gruffer metal influences of other modern prog bands. Here's a live Mystery performance of a song called "A Song For You". Great place to start! @
ah yes, i downloaded one of their albums off of iTunes years ago. Yes, for sure, thanks
@@deanwolfechannelGreat. Here is the video I was hoping you'd react to, "MYSTERY - A Song For You - LIVE from the ProgDreams 2016". I no longer see the link displayed in my message, so here it is if I accidentally left it out or you didn't receive it... ua-cam.com/video/Y9vbM1HCGnc/v-deo.html
With respect Dean, are you aware of monthly 'prog' magazine in UK? Prog is alive & very well, old&new.
I've noticed it but thought it was a nostalgia magazine!
Muse! But... Citizen Erased, Butterflies and hurricanes, Exogenesis, knights of cydonia.
Do muse new born
Same as you, I'm a 66 year old Floyd fan, but I'm into Rush, SAHB, Purple & a lot of other old rock stuff, you have to
move with the music, a bit late I know, but now getting into Metallica & a big fan of 'Within Temptation, yes 'Symphonic Rock'
You gotta go where the music keeps yer brain alive
Yes, I want to check out Metallica too
Lots of good stuff still comes out of Italy all the time, this is a gem of an album :
ua-cam.com/video/23elCcR8FS8/v-deo.html
These guys give a nice Renaissance/Kate Bush fix, prog/classical/folk :
iamthemorningband.bandcamp.com/album/-
And for love or hate weirdness with Goth/Prog/Alt/SeaShanties/TimBurtonesque horror all rolled into one try Major Parkinson:
ua-cam.com/video/mAzxVbIR6-4/v-deo.html
Great video. Name's Song?
Assassin live Mayan 2015
No idea what it is but a friend of mine is a big fan of theirs (as am I) and he said they're more "art rock" than anything. Not sure if that's true as I'm not familiar with a lot of sub genres
Art rock is I think a more refined term, under the umbrella of Prog I guess
Yeah, I figured as much. Thanks for taking the time to respond!
Are you a fan of Dream Theater?
@@shawnthemagician a new fan
Dean Wolfe Wow, you're in for a quite a ride then. I would love to see your reaction on a few of their songs one day! They are exceptional musicians! People think they're a bit "wankery", but if I were half as talented as any one of them, I'd be sure to show it off a little too! Anyway, keep doing what you're doing man! Cheers.
Art rock makes me think Roxy Music
There's actually 4 members but one doesn't want the fame nd is blended in the background everynow Nd then you see him on live vids
Fame is way overrated. Better to have your life be private to be honest.
Morgan only plays on their live stages when there’s keyboard, I don’t think he’s considered an official member. He doesn’t participate in the albums
Can any MUSE fans here tell me what concert this is?
Mike S The Mayan 2015
You didnt have porcupine tree on the modern list
Mars volta. do it
Order 66
For real modern prog get to Tool! Pneuma would be a great start.
i did one of tool and then a second of the same song, lateralus, because Tool fans wanted me to not chat during song and pay attention. i'm uploading that re-react right now in fact....
If you think prog rock has died then you haven't listened to enough Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson. I'm 67 and brought up on prog rock (big Genesis fan) but there's plenty of good stuff about.
Yes this!
What about Tool?
What would be a good starting point? Maybe one or two songs.or an album?
Dean Wolfe From their first to last albums. Each of them is amazing!
Lateralus is a good starting point
@@deanwolfechannel " Lateralus "
I don't want to break your heart but Muse haven't been a true 3 piece band for quite a few years now. Their album work is still done as a 3 piece but when playing live Morgan Nicholls is (usually) playing with them.
Cheaters!
If Muse is prog then I'm Keith Emerson
I agree they are not a straight prog band. Their catalogue is diverse. But prog influenced in parts for sure.
@@deanwolfechannel Dean, do you know about the site www.progarchives.com ? There are countless very unique, new and old albums, many of which you may not have heard of. They have ratings based on the site's listeners rate, reviews, etc. Every day I come across a new modern group that no one knows about, which have 10 subscribers on their UA-cam channel, but who make a very high-quality, very beautiful prog. Everything there is broken down into prog genres, countries, years, etc. I've been sitting on the "Top of 2020" for a week now, and yesterday I was blown away again. Check out this site. Lots of content.
Just come across your channel. Subscribed and hit the bell! You should check out Ayreon!
I've reacted to one already but would like to do another. Make a suggestion perhaps....
@@deanwolfechannel where to start.......The day the World breaks down?
This is not progrock, it's more prog metal
You can find better prog bands than muse. Not saying muse sux or not good. I'd never recommend muse to a old classic progger. Maybe after 50 band recommendation i might. I agree about trio thing :) mentioning trios listen The aristocrates one of the best trios i ever listened
Muse does not have the off time signatures of prog.... more pop rocky
Oh no, as a big muse fan i don’t know why some people suggest “recent” live shows from Muse, if you took the same song but the 2008 (los angeles) show it would have been so much better. They began to be worse live since about 2010...
I disagree, the Los Angeles performance sounds flat. It might not be the band's fault but the quality on youtube sucks and I'd rather take sound quality over performance. And the Mayan version sounds more punchy, it is just better.
Not exactly what I imagined as a Prog Rock track… Go for the Globalist rather.
Muse is not really prog.
They seem to have lots of prog material but are not a prog band as a whole the way bands like Yes or Rush are I'd agree
