This album seems to be the result of Jack throwing away all of the limitations that have defined his career thus far. Instead of limiting himself to 8 or 16 tracks on a reel, he embraces Pro Tools. Instead of sticking to traditional instrumentation, he embraces synths and programmed drums. Boarding House Reach, to me, sounds like the genius of Jack White’s mind flowing completely freely without any self imposed restrictions, which is something we haven’t seen yet.
I absolutely agree! Jack White has already given us all of the standard garage rock and blues rock we need, we should embrace this new and exciting sound.

A misophoniac is somebody that has specific sound triggers that bring about negative thoughts, emotions and memories. The song Hypermisophoniac is an attempt to deliberately annoy the listener while simultaneously sounding good. There's an interview with him somewhere where he talks about it more.
I absolutely love how divisive this album has been. Thats how music should be. The artist should express his conviction even to the disdain of others. Im feeling an 8.5 on this one. I really love it.
It's funny how Jack White and Julian Casablancas are releasing two of my albums of the year in 2018, both being crazy experimental, who would have thought? Less surprising with Julian because I loved Tyranny and he's been on this kick for a while. They both came out so retro inspired and now their new music is so much more out there and experimental. As a massive fan of both artists early 2000's output, I'm all for it. I wonder if they've heard each others new music and what they think of it, and if Jack was inspired by Julian at all.
Gets better with each listen I think is the key to this album. First time through it sounds random and chaotic, then after repeated visits, the order and genius amidst the cacophony hits you. I would say a soft 9, but still the best thing Jacks done in years.
YES ANTHONY MY DUDE!! I loved this thing on my first listen, but knew it wasn't going to do well amongst critics, so I'm glad you bucked that trend and shone some light on why this thing is so goddamn clever!
According to Wikipedia: "Misophonia, literally "hatred of sound", was proposed in 2000 as a condition in which negative emotions, thoughts, and physical reactions are triggered by specific sounds." So yea, people who suffer from it have a bad time. That's the point of the track.
If I remember correctly Jack tried to put a song together out of sounds that are hard to listen to in hypermisophoniac. Misophonia is the hatred of certain sounds so if you think about its pretty fucking genius.
Spot on review Melon. Took a couple listens just to get myself oriented about how I felt about it, but like you said, the whole thing just grows on you the more time you give it. Thanks for the constant stream of quality music. It definitely improves my relationships with others and myself.

phaznac eh it has several 8s and 9s. Even a 10 from nme. 74 on metacritic isnt too impressive tho
NME gave it 5/5 stars.
y’all know this is just his opinion, right?
A misophoniac is somebody that has specific sound triggers that bring about negative thoughts, emotions and memories.
The song Hypermisophoniac is an attempt to deliberately annoy the listener while simultaneously sounding good. There's an interview with him somewhere where he talks about it more.
Best part of the album, the Bass solo on Hypermisopheniac
I absolutely love how divisive this album has been. Thats how music should be. The artist should express his conviction even to the disdain of others. Im feeling an 8.5 on this one. I really love it.
It's not April Fool's yet Antony
He called u out in the beginning
What are u talking about!
I really liked the album
?? Jack White is fantastic.
Did he? Missed that... What an honour that would have been
I think this album is super interesting. I’m seeing him in August and I’m looking forward to see how he performs these tracks live.
Saw him live 2 days ago and it was incredible! His drummer blew my mind.

Dude, I also heard "Connected" a couple of months ago and thought it was crap. Now I cant stop singing it.
Solid album. Love me some Jack White
Anthony seems like a cool guy.
Jack said he broke his rule about only making music that he can play in concerts.....and it paid off
Damn its a good year for music
Gets better with each listen I think is the key to this album. First time through it sounds random and chaotic, then after repeated visits, the order and genius amidst the cacophony hits you. I would say a soft 9, but still the best thing Jacks done in years.
Darudethony - Sandstano
DoughnutFoundation hey, 2014 called and said they want their meme back
Mudd Yeah, use 90’s humor, very coherent.
good post
God i hope he keeps up this direction, it's like he just kicked his rock right back into being cutting edge and experimental and exciting.
YES ANTHONY MY DUDE!! I loved this thing on my first listen, but knew it wasn't going to do well amongst critics, so I'm glad you bucked that trend and shone some light on why this thing is so goddamn clever!
One of your greatest reviews on the channel!!!
jackthony whitetano here the internet's busiest experimental music nerd
According to Wikipedia: "Misophonia, literally "hatred of sound", was proposed in 2000 as a condition in which negative emotions, thoughts, and physical reactions are triggered by specific sounds." So yea, people who suffer from it have a bad time. That's the point of the track.
It’s cool how Jack made his hair the clouds
If I remember correctly Jack tried to put a song together out of sounds that are hard to listen to in hypermisophoniac. Misophonia is the hatred of certain sounds so if you think about its pretty fucking genius.
Put on closed captions to watch google turn "era Beck" into Arabic over and over and over
Spot on review Melon. Took a couple listens just to get myself oriented about how I felt about it, but like you said, the whole thing just grows on you the more time you give it. Thanks for the constant stream of quality music. It definitely improves my relationships with others and myself.
A NINE?! Mushthony Shroomtano back at it again
You're so right about this one. I hated it at first but it more than grew on me. This will be a classic in 5 - 10 years.
This album sounds like if fred armisen was to make a band for a portlandia sketch. These are the songs he would make
JohnnyPopShuvit 😂 Spot on.
Absolutely.
wow didn't expect this after all the reviews of the singles from the record, really need to listen to the album now, thanks melon.
Since thatistheplan left has this turned into your meme channel?
New drinking game! Every time melon pushes his glasses up, take a shot!!
