I lived in Atlanta after Herd but before AOL Time Warner took over. I had numerous friends that worked for Turner Broadcasting and pretty much every one of them hated it. It was more or a less a stopgap to make some money, develop some connections and then use that to work somewhere else or start your own company (usually in advertising). You basically had to know somebody to get a job there and from there accounts, a lot of kooks worked there. Herd basically got the job thru a friend so it didn't surprise me he got the job when he knew nothing about pro wrestling.
Flair should have left in 88 during the sale, timing would have been better. Of course, if he'd known that Arn, Tully, JJ, Dusty, and Windham would ALL leave for the WWF within the next year, he may have. By the time he was feuding with Steamboat, Ric had to be looking around going, "where'd everyone go?"😆
Yep they really screwed flair over. Ric even found out later that Turner wouldn't buy the wrestling company unless Ric flair was in it. Which meant flair should have been making a lot more money than the 750k he was making. Vince wanted him to come to the wwf in 88 and fight randy savage at the first summerslam.
Personally I always wanted to see Flair work a televangelist gimmick. Think about it. The hair, the money, the fancy suits, the yelling, sweating and dancing. He's 90% there already. 😄
one is speaking right in front of the microphone and another is speaking thru computer microphone...The setup is perfect if you are hosting your own shit...
I love listening to this podcast great job Nache..
RIP WCW

Yea sure kid. Stop lying on the internet
3rd and the best: Ric sir left wcw because he knew first 2 horsemens were in wwf!
What
They were no longer a part of the WWF when Flair went there in ‘91.
I want to see the parallel universe where you said yes to Sparticus!
Marvel gets all the cool What If stories. ☹️
Oh god
Good morning Rick how s everything going I have been a long time fan my name is Darry collins
You are the man
Why is Madden always screaming?
😂
Yeah rip
No wonder why wrestlers wasn’t happy in wcw 1991
"Why don't you just change Mickey Mantle's number too?" - Great line from Sullivan !

In hindsight we got Flair vs Steamboat and Flair vs Funk
Good point. I always felt 89 was odd as so many NWA guys came to WWF. You can also throw in Ronnie Garvin and Tony Schavione who also came up north.

Brother Love could be his manager.
l
Wow that would have worked lmao you should work for creative 😂
Jim "pizza hut" herd 😂
The biggest mistake of Jim Herd's career was letting Ric walk that Summer in 91. The Great American Bash was a disaster.
He's right he should have never cut his hair.
Nah, that was a bad mistake..
Herd managed to run Flair, The Road Warriors, Jim Cornette and The Midnight Express out of the company. Not the smartest move.
But he did bring in Arachna-Man, Firebreaker Chip, and Oz!
@@asurlybarber3620 And don't forget Robocop!
Bobby Eaton stayed with the company.
Herd wanted Flair to lose his hair and lose his theme: "Also sprach Zarathustra". In favor for Spartacus and the "Charge" theme.
WCW was a shrinking ship by then!
WCW was finally finished in 2001
There is only one Zodiac and it is Brutus the Fucking Barber Beefcake.
They forget to mention Dusty Rhodes taking over the booking and Flair and Dusty did not get along.
Funny thing is Mickey Mantle wasn't always #7.
Neither was Jordan always #23
Madden is loud and disrespectful to Ric, talking loud and jumping in; when Ric's speaking.

Flair could've made the earring work, but nobody could get Spartacus over.
Greensboro Rules NWA I 4 Horsemen
I thought he made up with Bischoff.
Why is this dude always shouting, whoever he is?
Is Madden in his kitchen? LOL
Herd sux he shouldn’t be telling Flair what to do about anything
WCW title belt is the real one you need to have to be recognized as the true champion in the wrestling business.
He's still salty about Bischoff
First
I can't stand The Pittsburgh Puke.
