Exactly, many of these are sportsmen pushing the limits and not idiots at all.
And some of these were just mistakes that happen sometimes like missing the hiking strap

The only idiot here is the author of the video, IMHO. These are racing boats, by definition they're pushing the limits. Plus, sailing is not easy and shaming people for their mistakes is stupid.

I know, it’s like positing an “idiots in cars” video and then it’s all wrecks from F1, Indy, and NASCAR. Those are the best drivers on the planet pushing their cars to the limit. They’re not idiots.

Okay Roman,
Firstly learn about the difference between sail- and motorboats. Sailboats typically have this long stick pointing into the sky, it is called a mast. After you insult professional regatta sailors who are push their high tech SAILboats just a bit too hard you proceed to show a mega MOTOR yacht crushing a docked sailboat, followed by another motor yacht stranded and a little runabout getting pummeled on a rocking shore. After that it is some guy jumping or falling off a TRAWLER which is again no sailboat. I pretty much stopped watching after that.
The only 2 seemingly qualifying clips are of the sailor dismasting on the closing bridge and I very much believe the bridge master closed too early, not changed the lights or the bridge malfunctioned... Very rarely are these accidents due to idiots on the sailboat, more often the idiot is sitting elsewhere, for example in the editor's chair.
Fair comment. I chuckled though when the dude in the laser missed the footstraps and went in.
Sme here, exactly, and I stopped watching at about the same point. And yeah, the guy who missed his hiking straps was funny, but I have done that!
I would call the first half 'standard racing mismaps'.
I don't know if you know anything about sailing, but they are not all idiots!

I had the same reaction as many commenters. Sailing is a fun exciting wild unpredictable sport.

Hmmmm ... the first two and a half minutes of this video are clips of racing sailors pushing the envelope and having accidents. Hardly "Idiots on Sailboats" ... You wouldn't call a Formula 1 driver who has a crash an "idiot driver" would you? ... They'd be a driver with a level of skill far greater than most people who found the limit of what can be done with a race car.
My thoughts. Sailing is up there on skilled driving. Past automobiles

@@mattrichards3870 At the level of professional rally driving or track racing it's hard to say ... both sports have variable environmental conditions that affect them. In the case of racing driving you've got the condition of the surface of the track and other drivers around you. Both sports take a lot of skill and quick reflexes if you want to be at the top of the game. Of course, one thing race car drivers don't have to deal with is relying on the environment (wind) to move them forward - or as most sailors will experience at some point: sometimes sideways or over on your side! :)
How much preparation and skill do you believe is required to navigate racing boats effectively?
@@FactZone-sl5lt It depends on the type of race boat, and at what level you are racing (at your local sailing club, or at the America's Cup to take two opposite ends of the scale).
To helm (drive/steer) a relatively tame race boat like in the first clip - maybe five solid years of experience to be basically competent, 10-15 years to be properly good at it.
To operate a boat like the foiling catamaran in the second clip, 15 years of hard training on small fast boats racing against skilled sailors MINIMUM (and only if you're very talented). The boat in the second clip is the sailing equivalent of a Formula 1 car - super fast and completely unforgiving. Those boats are also at the extreme forefront of research and development, meaning there are only a small number of sailors in the world who have ever sailed boats like it and they're all still learning how to make them go fast and not flip over.
True idiots on boats is when they don’t wear their life jackets.

I've been sailing for 50 years, including years on the Atlantic. What they're doing in the video is a completely different league. It's like comparing yourself to a Formula 1 driver.
For those who have never sailed:
Imagine you have an umbrella and you open it in a storm. I think everyone can easily imagine the forces at play.
In regattas (sail racing), sails are used that are a thousand times larger than an umbrella. The forces are so great that they can tear a person apart even in moderate wind. Nevertheless, regatta sails have to be controlled by hand and mechanical means. Doing the wrong thing can cost you your life! In regattas, sailing is always done at the limit. To control this, you need a team with years of experience! You can't just make a left turn! Every course change means the sails have to be adjusted. One mistake and the boat capsizes, sails lash uncontrollably across the deck, or the entire rig (mast and everything that holds it up) comes down.
In regattas, not an inch is given away, it’s extremely tight. A mistake by yourself or another boat can lead to what we see in the video. To call them idiots would be like calling every Formula 1 driver who ever had a crash (I don't think there's one who hasn't) an idiot.

First clips are high level sail racing, including America’s Cup on San Francisco Bay. Hardly idiots. The rest are motor boat accidents and then we do see some idiots.

How does this video have any likes? The title is completely wrong, and the person has no idea of the difference between sailboats and motor boats. All racing situations, whether sailing or motorsports, push beyond the extremes of the boat or car and going to have failures and wrecks. I hit the dislike button and clicked _do not recommend this channel_ option.
