@@moodmusic4life oh yes I can. In 10 years I can think back on the early 2020s and think about the best guitarists from that time, and I can think “oh yea Mike Stringer and Chris Wiseman were putting everyone else to shame back then as well”
There's way more to writing music than technicality... It's about feel, and the emotion that is transferred through the instrument. Having said that, he is amazing at both. I agree with you 100%
Somebody else said it first, but it's like that closing riff sonically simulates the gradual shutting down of the human brain during illnesses like dementia. Just so abrasive and violent, like the body is going into a panic.
i thoguht that ending riff was just damn scary and i get chills everytime. its so amazing how he's able to portray the horrific effects of dementia into music
I think it's fair to say that many of us who watched the music video for this song for the first time didn't make it through without getting teary eyed.
Was coming to the comment to say just that. Especially the last chord, the uneasiness of that chord to begin with but then pulling it out of tune is just genius.
I’ve been watching Mike play guitar for 15 years now, and not in any single moment have I not been amazed by him. Great person, unbelievable musician, and someone I’m glad to call a friend.
He is a freaking genius. I love those bends he does on one string in the middle of strumming chords in the chorus. He does it in Secret Garden too. And that very last riff, my god I did not realize it was that dirty. Just adds and extra layer to the intensity of that outro mimicking the chaos of the end of one's life, but then the peace at the end, like death finally came and peace is achieved, the static ends too. Incredible.
I always felt like the ending mimics her being alive, but drowning in dementia until she sinks into her “peaceful place” to help her mentally survive In the video, it’s where she sees her husband too. So I thought that was the intention
It was cool seeing how Mike utilized his knobs and switches in this song as well as the layering of his guitar melody. I would love to see Bill do a play through of this song as well.
Simply the detail within this composition is extraordinary. Even with out the vocals/lyrics it tells a story all by itself. Bravo. PS: Courtney LaPlante is literally the icing on the cake and Dylan deserves a standing ovation for the video, what a piece of art. One of 3 songs ever written that successfully made me cry but in this case it was a positive almost closure type emotional release for me. Thank you!

That chord shape you play (C#, G#, A and E) during the second run of the verse at the 2:18 mark is PURE PAIN!!! My wrist and fingers will never forgive me for trying to learn this song! I'm going to stick with it though! Love you guys though!!
Mike has become one of my favorite musicians. The guitar work in their songs is awesome, I wish I had the ability to play as awesome as he does. Spirit box quickly become one of my favorite bands last year and I hope I can catch them live soon.
One of the things that I love about this band, and there are many, is the fact that even without the amazing vocals and the lyrical aspect that makes them great song writers and musicians, the instrumental is amazing. You could easy be an instrumental band. The atmospheric melodies are reminiscent to bands like Widek and Owane. And I love that so much. I absolutely love everything about Spiritbox.
It’s always crazy when great musicians still manage to create a band even greater than the sum of its parts lol It’s why I fell in love with The Contortionist
Despite not being a guitarist or any kind of musician, that was awesome. Love Mike's music. Spiritbox are my best musical discovery for quite some time. I had a ticket for Manchester - about 4 days after the tour was cancelled.
Beautiful! Heard Constance so many times and can see a lot of thought and love was put into the music to bring out the message! This is amazing and unique.
This must be why I fell in love with their sound from the first time I heard them, Diamond Eyes is my favorite Deftones album (and This Place is Death is the best song in the history of humanity lol). Weird I haven't come to this conclusion earlier. Huh.
This guy plays guitar just the way I like it … discordant and melodic , crunch and ethereal… this song is very good and he anchors it down hard! Spiritbox rules!
Truly amazing! You’re so talented, love this along with everything else y’all put out!!! Thanks for this play through!!! I look forward to anything that y’all put out in the future, keep killing it brother 🤘
Dementia is one of the worst things ever. There is nothing worse that loosing your memory and the touch with reality. It’s truly devastating. That song captures that state of mind perfectly
I feel like a tour with Spiritbox, Tesseract, Contortionist, etc would be an incredible sight to see. Hell, throw Erra in there too. I miss live music so much.
Mike is one of the only metal players I’ve seen that really dials in the volume knob/coil splitting. It’s crazy to me to see someone have such a control over it
Can someone tell me what's up with that volume pot? I looks like it has some weird push pull or weird switch like action. Guessing it has a coil split, but it look like it moves forward and backward either to switch between bridge/neck volumes?
Mike Stringer is one of best writers in metal right now and I will forever stand by that. This song is absolutely stunning
