My god, the amount of attention to detail that went in to finding the most “hidden” locations I’ve never seen in any other videos, is mind blowing. It was the coolest thing to see the inside of the actual soundstage where the chocolate factory set was.
OMG!!! This is one of the best videos online I've ever seen. You've brought my childhood alive again. Moreover, you've captured in great detail and accuracy all the locations. Your choice of music puts a smile on an ageing geezer's face! I truly lift my hat off to you. Take a bow. I hope you do more of these. I'm going to share this with the world. More of these, please!!
I'd give anything to go sit on those steps and sing Cheer Up Charlie. But I don't know if I could get through it without crying. One of the most beautiful moments in a beautiful film.
Me too! I watch this movie once a year or so, have been doing so since I rediscovered it back in the 90's. I remember my sister taking me to the cinema to see it & I so desperately wanted to live in a chocolate factory! (I'm sure millions of kids all over the world did too). Wow, 52 years ago... Where did the time go?
This video is award-worthy! Online videos many times are tedious and lead to nowhere. Your style is great with the split screen. Taking the movie from the beginning to the end is perfect. I live in Southern California where I know many locations of many movies that were filmed throughout the years but being able to film locations from the Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory movie has to be precious.
What an iconic movie! Hard to believe it was 52 years ago! Amazing, that some of the locations are still there today. I didn't realise that it was filmed in Germany/Bavaria, I've always found it curious that film makers shoot a movie based in one country, but filmed entirely in another. Even multiple countries in some cases. Thank you for the hard work, doing all the amazing research and returning to all these incredible locations. The attention to detail is remarkable, really enjoyed this trip down memory lane! 😊
What an absolutely amazing video! Not to mention it was like I was watching the movie all over again with all the tears that go along with it! And now I can live happily ever after just like Charlie Bucket. :)
This is incredibly well done. Thank you for making this! Memories so thick they lift me off the ground, I bump into the ceiling which now has to be washed, and sterilized...
as a kid, the candy shop scene always bugged me because he just hands everything out without ever collecting any money. loved the side-by-side presentation. well done. you know if it had been filmed in the US, everything would have been demolished by now.
From what I know, it was filmed in Germany so that American audiences would see it as "any town". If the movie were filmed in the USA, audiences would easily recognize the setting as "not my city".
WOW!!! My mind is blown. I’ve never really realised where this film was filmed but it’s more in my heart because it’s filmed in Germany. I’m a huge fan of Germany and I hope to visit the country one day. Thank you for putting so much effort into this video. Just amazing!!
Wow you showed so many locations and in sequential chronological order amazing it's cool to see that so many of them it's still survived in her relatively unchanged thank you for this look back through time into the present
I love the attention to detail like a blank studio (sound stage) floor and an empty sky...h This was a great video. Like the annual Wizard of OZ, this was also an annual event when I was a little boy. Gene will always be remembered..... He is on my list of greats (within my life)
This has to be one of the greatest videos ever made on UA-cam. The amount of time this must have taken is astonishing. So entertaining and most importantly-- accurate!!
Thanks! Credit where credit is due. I found a great website that listed most of the locations (link in the description). However, I still continue to seek out unidentified filming locations, mostly from NYC.
What a fantastic piece of work!! Without doubt, this is the best 'then and now movie location' video I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Hopefully it gets the credit that it deserves by way of millions of views and thumbs ups... Just one point though (as I have mild OCD), if only you'd waited another 48 minutes at 5:16 for the clock to match the time in the movie 😉
It has changed and yet hasn't. Wonderful thankyou the movie and the book has come to life again. If anybody has not read the book please do so it just as good as the movie
I’ve been to Munich, it now makes perfect sense when I see this that the film was shot there. I saw the film recently and noticed the cars had the German number plates. Mr Jopek also couldn’t speak a word of English. Absolutely brilliant piece of content
I had the extreme pleasure of seeing this in a theater in Ponce Puerto Rico for free. Well, almost free. In the early 70’s, the M&M /Mars Co. had a promotion in Puerto Rico. On a few select Saturdays, you could go watch a kids movie without paying any money. The price of admission was a couple of Mars product candy wrappers. So, I saw this movie for the price of 2 M&M wrappers. This was back in 1971 when this movie came out. I was 9 years old. I’m almost 61 now. I don’t think there was 1 adult in the theater that afternoon. We were all dropped off at the theater with our wrappers. I still remember that when the opening credits were rolling, you know, when they’re showing all the candy and chocolate, the entire audience was yelling “MMMMMMMMM,” as loud as we could. To this day, I can still hear the sound of over 200 kids cheering when Charlie peeled back the wrapping to reveal the Golden Ticket! Then the entire theater got super quiet when Slugworth materialized out of nowhere to whisper in Charlie’s ear. I saw this movie dubbed in Spanish back then. Now imagine my surprise when I moved to Los Angeles in 1975. I sat down to watch t.v. with my mom and sister and there was Grandpa Joe on tv! It was Jack Albertson on a show called Chico and the Man! It was the first time that I heard Grandpa Joe’s real English speaking voice. 😂
Bravo sir!! What an absolutely wonderful video!! THIS is how you make an honest video folks! Genuine amount of highly skilled work went into the making of this video and it's truly the BEST type video I've viewed on youtube to date!! Blessings to you and yours!! Greg
The attention to detail is terrifyingly awesome
Hi leokimvideo
In a world of pure imagination. This is truly amazing. Thanks. It's perfection. Who else paused this several times to clearly see the differences?
My god, the amount of attention to detail that went in to finding the most “hidden” locations I’ve never seen in any other videos, is mind blowing. It was the coolest thing to see the inside of the actual soundstage where the chocolate factory set was.
Coolest thing to know Stage 9 was where the chocolate room was hey? So fascinating to see the locations too.
😢What a shame that the river and the ground no longer exist @@fraserkatie

So true, the video is almost as magical as the film.
in the ending, same cloud from 1971 was amazing :) briliant job
I'd give anything to go sit on those steps and sing Cheer Up Charlie. But I don't know if I could get through it without crying. One of the most beautiful moments in a beautiful film.
Yes. Well, at least now you know where to go if you want a good cry.
It's nice to see the love for this movie still around. I have it on Blu-ray
Me too! I watch this movie once a year or so, have been doing so since I rediscovered it back in the 90's. I remember my sister taking me to the cinema to see it & I so desperately wanted to live in a chocolate factory! (I'm sure millions of kids all over the world did too).

Beautifully made, supremely well composed, excellent choices in music, and some very thoughtful and cool additions too such as the final shot. Bravo!!
I never realized that the film was actually filmed in Germany. Very well done on the research and all for this video.
the orange roofs were a dead giveaway for Germany or Netherlands.

The way you’ve lined up all your current day shots with originals is amazing!!! Best video I’ve seen of locations! 🎉
This is incredibly well done. Thank you for making this! Memories so thick they lift me off the ground, I bump into the ceiling which now has to be washed, and sterilized...
Will always be one of my favourite movies. Thank you for showing us this.
as a kid, the candy shop scene always bugged me because he just hands everything out without ever collecting any money. loved the side-by-side presentation. well done. you know if it had been filmed in the US, everything would have been demolished by now.

The effort here is absolutely unbelievable. THANK YOU. This was hauntingly beautiful.
So good to see most of the locations still look nice if not much nicer these days.
Wow, that is an impression amount of detail, including soundstages and drone footage! I always wondered where in Europe it was filmed.
From what I know, it was filmed in Germany so that American audiences would see it as "any town". If the movie were filmed in the USA, audiences would easily recognize the setting as "not my city".

First class. A lot of time went into filming and editing this. Much appreciated.

So wonderful to see how little these iconic location sites have changed. Great work!
