I bought 35 acres in southern Kentucky with several buildings and a large farm house for less than a house and lot in Davidson County Tennessee , where I work .
I am in California coming up on retirement. I will be trying to live on $2,500 a month without factoring in a part-time job. The goal is rural, tiny home and tiny land. I am leaning towards Tennessee for the thunderstorms, growing season, and less snow. Work history is education and LVN nursing. I can entertain myself, but "pretty hikes" and a small town community activities would win me over. Any suggestions?
I don’t want to hurt this ladies business but , Knoxville Tennessee , or Louisville Kentucky, would not be on my wish list if I were you , south central Kentucky or north central Tennessee would be your best option, i have lived and worked in both cities and their ok i guess , but what ever you decide don’t even consider Memphis Tennessee ! I took a job in Nashville and bought a home in Kentucky just to get out of Memphis!
@MegaRiffraff Thank you very much for the information. 😃 Yes, I have no interest in cities. I am strictly looking for rural communities. Unfortunately, California no longer has affordable housing rentals, and buying a house is no longer possible. Many people in California either move back in with their parents or live in their cars, even with working two jobs.
You forgot a MAJOR consideration: BOTH of these states interfere with personal medical decisions in which government has no place. One of these is abortion. I have a daughter and I would not want the government to step on her right to decide what is right for her own body and her life. This disqualifies both Kentucky and Tennessee as viable places to live because their level of government overreach is truly un-American.
Tennessee is a Bible Belt state, we are also a Red state. If you are the type of person that believes you have the right to murder a baby then you would not fit in here. We are being inundated with liberals with money, moving to the Nashville, Knoxville and Chatt metro areas, buying up and ruining our state and we would rather you stay back in California, New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Washington and Colorado!

Great feedback! Thanks for watching. The housing is more affordable in Kentucky!
This is a great video, so helpful!!! Thank you
I'm so glad you found it helpful! Are you considering a move to Kentucky or Tennessee?
Tennessee has Taylor Swift so I count that as a negative for TN.
Lol! That's funny. I'm sure many others count that as a positive!

Hey! Thanks for watching. I would check out Shelbyville, Bardstown, La grange, Berea... so many great options here!
I have never paid less than 9.5 percent sales tax. KY sales tax is 6 percent throughout the state.
Which city has the most residential multifamily?
What a great question, but you've stumped me! Anyone know the multifamily stats for KY vs TN?
