  • Earlier this month, I travelled over to Cambridge to meet with the wonderful Matt Oram of Fidelity Guitars. He gave my lovely Stellarosa a complete luthier's overhaul....removing the unbalanced pickup setup (that the previous owner had installed) and routing it out to accommodate a pair of shiny Mojo Gold Foils; as well as crafting a new pickguard and rewiring all of the electronics...far better than I had done previously!!
I wanted to give it a test drive in its new configuration and record a song where every guitar part was tracked using the newly renovated Stellarosa. This song will form the backing track for a short edit of the mod video coming in a few days time.
But for now, please sit back and enjoy the instrument that has become nicknamed "Cowgirl".

Well there's a journey of musical inspiration! You took us through the styles of The Black Crowes, The Ventures, The Fratellis and Mike Oldfield. Love it.

Thanks mate :-) I wish I had the time & capacity to devote to writing more music, but sadly the odd track for fun is about all I’m capable of nowadays!

I’ve noticed that white square Tele is one of your favorites. What do you like about it?

The main guitar that starts the song? Or the tele with the wide range pickups? Both are two of my favourites…the Fidelity is a real curveball guitar, and I got to film with Matt O whilst he modified it for me; and I also got to film with Matt G at Monty’s whilst he modified the wide range tele for me, and be one of the first to try those pickups. So they both sound ace, but also have nice memories attached to them for me 👍 I like knowing the names of people who built my guitars, but it’s especially nice to be able to call some of them friends :-)

@@JoePerkinsMusic Yes, I remember “seeing” that. My eyes don’t always work perfectly anymore, so I’ll rewatch that. It’s the white guitar with gold foil looking pups. I can tell you enjoy that one 😊. I have some spare parts and thought I’d try some gold foil types. I build my stuff and if I can still wind (going to try this week) it would be fun to do a Strat and Tele set, to your specs, and get your feedback. All free and off video.
I’m now looking to make a 10 string, semi hollow. BC Rich made a 10 string and I think I can kludge it with a Tele bridge, that has through body and top loader holes. I’ll notch the saddles, not perfect, but no different than the big R. I was given a figured maple ,12 string neck that’s been sprayed and then stripped back. I’ll strip it and start over. I’m going to use 7/8” tall, 1/4” diameter magnets, cut bobbins about the size of P-90s. The question is how tall should the windings be, and if 43 PE will work. I can’t feel my fingers so well, so little chance I’ll try 44 gauge. Heavy Formvar might be good in the neck. The body started as a Starcaster project with 3 p-90s.

Hey Hoe, that was fun! What do you use for your drum sounds?

Thanks! I use Slate Drums software and program them - would much prefer to work with real drummers all the time, but sadly isn't cost effective for things like this!
