A Curtiss Commando was left to decay for many years at Santos Dumont (SBRJ) airport. Then a cargo operator bought what was left of it, did the required emergency repairs to make it airworthy for a short hop to Jacarepagua (SBJR) field, where it was extensively repaired and modernized before being sent to cargo operations in the Amazon basin. I was lucky enough to be standing on the ramp, about 100 meters to the edge of the runway, when this big old-timer made a low pass and then went around for the landing. A good 35 years went by, but that image hasn't faded from memory.

@@GabbieGirl007 Tail # is PP-ITE If you search for it on jet photos, you'll see it parked at Jacarepagua field in the era that was mentioned. In that photo, also barely visible in the background are a Fokker S.12 (PP-KAR) and a Piper Dakota 235 (PT-NBD) het I flew back then.
I know the feeling when was a young aviation student I use to walk next to the north ramp of ElDorado airport in Bogota, Colombia; behind the fence there was a vintage Curtiss Commando parked and was there abandoned by many years due to burocratic issues with Aerocivil; about middle 2000's the fuselage was scrapped and I never see it again, I dreamed to have enough money to restore it and make it fly, total loss but that plane was always be in my heart!.

There is one of these still flying daily in my town. They use it for delivering fuel out to remote villages.

These local legends and famous flyers are really a great feature of MSFS. Thank you for them. My dream list includes a Caravelle, Trident, VC10, Vickers Viscount, Lockheed Electra 4 engine, Comet, Convair 580, 880, 990, DC4, DC8, DC9, and the BAC111. Hopefully these are in the pipe. What an amazing product MSFS is. Cheers and thanks!
Thank you for bringing the Commando out. My uncle was a crew member in one and went missing-in-action somewhere in the China-Burma Theater.
My dad flew the same (and survived) - they had a loss rate GREATER than the 8th AF - (bombing Germany). Very little enemy action - night missions over the Himalayas, in bad weather, ferocious winds - some nights 50% would fail to return.
And... That's another box checked off my "ICE PILOTS" bingo card.
Looks like a mix between the dc3 c47 and the stratoliner. Love it!

@@yankeeromeoalpha Because you'd assume Microsoft would want to include the most popular paint schemes with the release. Making a popular paint scheme vs an unfamiliar paint scheme takes the same amount of work, so you'd just assume they'd include the ones that people most know or in some cases have the most historical value.

Assuming this is Aeroplane Heaven - Please find someone else to work with on these old radial engine planes. AH's work is always so buggy, shallow, and incomplete, and the sounds are almost always atrocious. The C-46 will be great, assuming someone like Duckworks or Redgrave steps up and fixes it like they did the DC-3 and Stratocruiser.

@@ops7917 I'm with on the John Williams thing, but I was thinking that the elongated orchestral bass 'stabs' were very much a trademark of Horner. But I'm sure there's a mixture in there somewhere.

I guess we hear what we hear that's personal to us individually. Which Horner film score do you have in mind with the bass "stabs" ? He and Michael Kamen - gone 2 soon.
@@ops7917 The other Horner films that include that notably are Apollo 13, and Titanic, (more transport based films!). Another connection that I made was that Horner used to be a pilot himself, which is sadly how he died. And agreed, way too soon, both hugely talented.

Any chance you can do the Bell X-1 as Chuck Yeager flew when he broke the sound barrier? It's one of the world's most famous aircraft and pilot and no one has ever honored him or his achievement correctly.
We have so many of these kind of planes at least some communication about the 707 would be nice .

I don't want to be a negative nancy but it's no wonder we've been waiting 2 ½ years (so far) since AH first showed off the Lancaster. They've been doing almost every plane for Asobo.
Interesting, I spy some aeroplane heaven style textures here, I wonder if it’s going to release with at a similar level as they did the dc-3. I for one am pleased we are getting these oldies, but far not interested in the 707 at the moment

Something is weird with this game my internet is pretty good and still getting the message in the game no internbet conection so I'm not able to use Photogrammetry hope you guys fix it and I was preparing the 777 PMDG at the gate and the logbook of the previos flight appears then when I was 5NM close to the runway on landing anything in the cockpit worked then the airplane engines didn't produced trust so I crash then I went to the main menu and my flight was in the logbook like if the simulator made the logbook of this flight before I finish my flight.,my flight was from LGAV -EGLL and in the logbook appears like LGAV-Vecinity EGLL really weird hope you guys can fix this

It's larger, faster and a completely different bird, literally the big brother of the DC-3/C-47
C-46 is not a re-skinned DC-3/C-47. The Douglas C-47 and Curtiss C-46 served similar roles but are two entirely different aircraft. Sorry your 707 probably got delayed, but don't try to downplay the C-46 just because you aren't interested in it.

When do you plan to end your collaboration with Aeroplane Heaven? All their airplanes are terrible, with excellent models but poor quality in everything else. Therefore, I am worried about this one too.
Model seems to be hardly modified from their FSX one. Rather low poly and not proportioned all that well.
Another plane that a person flies once then stays in the gallery forever... meanwhile the MSFS2020 doesn't even have dx12 and a weather radar system

The C-46 is one of my all time favourite aircraft! My favourite thing about it has to be the engine sounds on takeoff. Literally moving :,)
Speaking of sounds... the sounds for this aircraft mod brings a tear to my eye for all the wrong reasons. Almost nothing has a sound, and what does sounds like it was taken straight from the DC-3. _Worst of all,_ while the engine sounds are custom, they sound like someone recoded a person blowing into a desk fan from across the room away, and recorded it with $2 mic. My disappointment is literally immesurable. It completely ruins this aircraft imo. completely destroys the immersion.😢
Lack of liveries and configs is really disappointing aswell. Would have liked an Everts or Buffalo livery with this. But unfortunately the config is only a military transport with a Jeep in the back.
Airplane Heaven needs to pay more attention to the planes....it looks a lot like it is from fsx....thick propeller, rustic details.....needs more attention.

Dear Airplane Heaven developers, maybe stop making “envelopes” from models of previous simulators? Shame on you? Your models are not up to 2024 level of texturing and modeling except for the aircraft appearance. Learn 3D modeling from Carenado/Just Flight
