When I was a kid, I used to be in my room doing all these moves as the video was playing, or at least in my mind I was! You couldn’t tell me that I wasn’t in his crew! 😂😂😂😂😂
@@sacheverelle I was 10 - I started watching Mtv every day after school in the Fall of ‘88. That was an amazing time in my life. That’s when I knew I wanted to be a musician. MTV was like a great radio station, playing a host of different genres and new bands. Hip Hop was breaking. Punk/Alternative was getting airplay. Some of the best Hard Rock and Metal bands were on heavy rotation. It was a different time. Mtv was playing to an older audience than - people in their late teens and 20’s. And VH-1 was for 30-something’s. Later on in the 90’s the demographic got gradually younger until it became a channel for pre teens and young teenagers. And the channel’s identity changed. It switched from being a weird little independent-style channel with a punk, low budget DIY feel to a corporate entity that tried to spoon feed the audience. It became “slick”.
Exactly!! I just heard this on DL's radio show while driving to work and almost jumped out of my car and started dancing!! I forgot how good this and his other music and dancing was
When this song came out the rap world didn't know how to take it. It was at a time when hip hop was evolving seemingly month to month while slowly becoming more mainstream. And this came out of left field. Nobody predicted that this man would blow up like he did--propelling a new variant of hip hop into the wider culture. But even when considering the massive phenom this evolved into, it seems this stripped down version of Hammer was actually the best.
I remember recording this on my VCR watchin YO MTV RAPS one Saturday morning. I would alway fastforward to @2:53 and try to replicate what Hammer was doing. Probably why m knees are effed up today.😂😂
Nothing beats late 80's/early 90's rap. Modern rap is garbage. There is no contemporary performer on the scene right now who has half the talent and energy as Hammer. No one.
Still hits hard today
Damn right it do!!!
His moves were special and his energy was out of this world. Boy was bad
yeah! NYC in yo face, Oaktown,CA of "1989"Hammer 🔨
His Lyrics are 🔥
'Death on a stage
pumpin' at the club
Hammer is a eagle
and you a dove"
"I'm original and you're digital...."
Thinking about that line 36 years later. So crazy...😂
Flowers to Hammer, man....🫡
Aye!!!! They don't know! That line is too cold!!!???
That solo dance at the end…..

Hammer was killin 'em!!! Its a shame hip hop pushed him and others (kid n play) like him out!
Kid and Play sucked! I couldn't stand them!
Kid n play was good I definitely liked them also
My favorite Hammer song period
Me too!
He may not be the best at rapping, but for putting on a show with stage presents, few can compare. hammer was a master at showmanship.🤣
