Ever heard of Falconer racing engines? They had an Atlas inline 6 that was used in the baja desert race. They bumped it to 5.0 L pretty cool. Thought of your channel when I came across it yesterday. There is video here on youtube it was used in Trailblazer desert suv.
I really enjoy all of the 4200 videos, you're one of the pioneers with these Atlas family of engines. As much as I enjoy the 4200 stuff, I'd love to see you guys explore more of the Atlas family engines as they share so much and can equally be as fun in the right setup.
I just bought a HX35 (10cm) turbo from maxpeedingrods for my 3.0 mercedes diesel (om606). As it's a diesel I need to make at least 30 psi (2 bar). I'm going to put up a video of the results but from all of my research. The only downside these turbos have is that the oil feed holes in the turbo bearing are a little undersized.
Calvin should self-publish a book. "The dummies guide to the GM Vortec 4200" or the How to install and run the Vortec 4200 in anything".Include all the wiring, CPU, mods, cam timing, fabrication tips, measurements, basic setup, tuning tips. I'm betting it would generate a lot of interest.
Now need a comparison of track time slips..{side by side at the same boost} will the mph be the same? Will the duty cycle be the same? Loving the informative videos thank you
It makes me giggle because im a stupid kid......i guess there is a lot of stupid kids out here then, im one myself lol. The ladys constant giggling made me lol
Hey man i was looking at some aftermarket piston options it seems like the 3.5L ecoboost has a 93mm piston with a .905" piston pin available. Diamond, manley, JE, CP and a couple other companies sell forged 2618 pistons for them. Found part# 35002-6, its supposed to be rated for 1000 wheel out of the box and around $850. I believe that HP rating is with the standard material piston pin aswell, id assume with an H13 piston pin upgrade should be good for 1200hp.
Congratulations on the partnership for your channel. It's well deserved The new Turbo sounds great looking forward to seeing how it performs on the track and the dinal. Do you have any speculation on is speculation on changes it will make?
VGT is usually for someone whos trying to make a gobs of torque off idle like a diesel, with these stock bottom end engines you kind of want the opposite of that lol.
Congrats on your new partnership Calvin. Again I appreciate all the info on the 4200. I’d like to pick your brain a little more about my ‘04 TB 4x4 that I’m rebuilding with an ‘07 head & exhaust. Not sure what the best way to communicate a few questions would be. Ive gasket matched the exhaust ports, and am going to do the same on the ‘07 exhaust manifold. I’m going to finish porting the head. I noticed intake manifold ports are slightly smaller than intake ports on head. Airflow into engine doesn’t seem to be as much of an issue as airflow out on these engines. No mods can be done to throttle body other than cleaning. Going to get a Custom tune when all done. I’m hoping for 325-350 rwhp when done. Larger injectors? What size would you recommend? I’m not going to boost but am going to see about a true ram air/cold air intake thru hood. ‘04 timing chain ok with ‘07 head & cams etc? Larger full pump needed? Anything else I should look at? Thx again Calvin.
You may need a larger fuel pump. The problem with injectors is finding one that fits the 4200. The injectors need to be pretty tall. Siemens deka 80s worked well in the past for me. You may need a bit larger pump. Not sure what the stock size is. It may have enough overhead.
Only video I've found on YT featuring the s366 clone. Wanting to mount one at the end of the y pipe beside the trans on a 5.3 tahoe. At what rpm did the s366 transition into positive pressure on the street for u?
@Calvin-Nelson awesome, thanx for the reply. Also can the ecu in the 07 trailblazer/envoy 4.2l be easily fully tuned for boost? Or does it need to be the 08-09 ecu to be worth it?
Okay kinda off the topic but..... I'm at the point of purchasing a tuner. Looking at HP tuners with unlimited tunes for Silverado trucks. A couple of our engines and wiring came out of Chevy express vans. According to the hp website the Silverado tuner doesn't work with the express computer, they want you to buy more credits . Sooooo. Should I just get the standard tune thing and just buy credits when I need them ? Or go totally different way . ? Sorry it's probably a newbie question but you guys know stuff . Thanks
He had a gtx3582 clone not a 3584, the 3584 is a 67mm compressor and the 3582 is a 62mm compressor. 2 completely different turbos. The GTX3582r gen 1 is rated for 750hp by Garret (which is the most commonly copied, the gen 2 has a 66mm compressor wheel), so i bet he was very close to the end effeciency on that turbo, probably some more on the table if he were to screw around with a bigger turbine housing but yeah.
I'm just an old man in an old Studebaker officer. It only has a 6 cylinder in it.
Your Mom's laugh and then , lets do that again was perfect!
Hell yeah, sponsored turbo!! Life is good. Can't wait to see a run time at the track!
Straight six, Machining, and big turbos, I don't need AvE/Tot, Cleetus, or BCW anymore.
Yeah Calvin has really found a niche. Showing up on FasterProms and Richard Holdeners channel too.
What channel is BCW?

I have. Neat build.
glad to see you gettin some love from sponsors
i am watching you
66/73 is baller AF
turbo sounds fantastic and seems to come online fast, also, inline 6 sounds amazing
Loved your mom's reaction to the launch off the lights! She's a good sport.
She is having the time of her life.

Love the Studebaker Subscribed
Great video. Nice to have the right tools to get the job done.
Sounds good! Looking forward to seeing how this turbo compares at the track!
8:00 - lathe work is so satisfying to watch!!
Glad you are at the point of getting free shit! You deserve it!
That thing sounds amazing!! Put a smile on my face
Congrats on the sponsorship!
Classic house key box opener 👍
This channel is cutting edge off n different platforms
The turbo sounds great!
13:00 - yes, the #turbonoises are great!!! And that underhood look is awesome!
That is a massive turbo.
Eh. It's medium. Lol.
@@Calvin-Nelson that is at least extra medium

I made a website for that. Lol. sites.google.com/view/vortec4200wiki/home

Good to know. I was looking at Subaru EJ25 pistons.

It will make way less back pressure and therefore allow me to make way more power. The old turbo was limiting me.
SoB
What size fitting did you use for the oil feed?
I wonder how a compound turbo set up would work. Great work man
#turbonoises are the best!!!
Ya know Calvin, you could add a VGT turbine side......look up the DPS Turbonator .......then go add a silly compressor like an 88mm
Oof. They're expensive.. Honestly happy with the turbo that's on it. Lol
VGT is usually for someone whos trying to make a gobs of torque off idle like a diesel, with these stock bottom end engines you kind of want the opposite of that lol.
Transmissions can also get unhappy when you dump a bunch of low-end torque into them.
That thing got to 45 pretty quickly 👀😂

@@Calvin-Nelson Thanks again for the advice. I appreciate your input, no one knows the ins & outs of these 4200’s like you do.
Hey! Watch that "old man" crap! lol
Only video I've found on YT featuring the s366 clone. Wanting to mount one at the end of the y pipe beside the trans on a 5.3 tahoe. At what rpm did the s366 transition into positive pressure on the street for u?
Not sure when it spooled, but it was quick.
@Calvin-Nelson awesome, thanx for the reply. Also can the ecu in the 07 trailblazer/envoy 4.2l be easily fully tuned for boost? Or does it need to be the 08-09 ecu to be worth it?
they also make a gt45 clone which is bigger again.
Yeah. The GT45 turbos are everywhere and are not a great turbo. There are much better options out there for not much more money.

Frank Makes a turbo flange.
BIGGGAR!!!
How is the turbo holding up??
Well. Didn't run it a ton, but worked great up until when I stopped running it.
👍💪
Is that a ball bearing turbo?
No just a journal bearing unit. Pulsar turbo is the only company that sells a borg s300 style turbo with a ball bearing cartridge.
No
SUBSCRUBED!!! Just bought a Studebaker Lark. Looking to go turbo 6.0 or 6.2) (IF I can find one.)
"Hi Mike, you can click this link to see if there is a product you need:
www.maxpeedingrods.com/category/turbo.html,thanks."
Most of the gtx3584rs clones are rated to 1000hp
Did you have a lot of back pressure for you to switch turbos?
Yes. Lots of back pressure. Like 2:1 ratio

I'm about to put a pair of them on a 6 liter, I am afraid they will be soggy
Should spool alright.
How bout back pressure? Difference?
Hi Prochargedmopar, what back pressure do you want to ask? What is the difference?
We'll do back pressure comparisons on the dyno. I don't have a back pressure sensor on the car at the moment.
@@Calvin-Nelson Thanks, be interesting. Hope you've got it uncorked!
studEEEbaker lol
Ive had bad luck with those cheap turbos. Ill NEVER buy a maxspeedrod turbo again. Buy from a reputable company, not China
Sorry to hear that. I didn't buy it, but after using it I'm very happy with it. Sorry your experience wasn't the same.
is the coupon code still good?
I doubt it. You can try it
