Most underrated and underappreciated pitcher in the majors. Just because he doesn't throw upper 90's doesn't mean he isn't amazing. I actually prefer his way because he is precise with his craft
@@jonesbbqfootmassage2430 oh sorry! For some reason I was thinking that the W’s mean something. My bad. What do I know about baseball? Best to you! Happy stats!!
I have watched Kyle Hendricks pitch 7 times over the past 5 years and he so precise on his locations. He is one of the most under rated players in the league. He should have won the 2016 cy young award.
15:03 I like how the Cubs have had 3 of the 4 pitchers to throw the fewest amount of pitches in a complete game shutout since 1991. Thats just a cool stat for the Cubs tbh in my opinion lol
@@skywastaken7300 RWB Team is correct, they said "have had", Rich Harden played for the Cubs in 2008 (had a 1.77 era in 12 games), and Kyle Hendricks and Jon Lieber were both on the Cubs when they threw those games
Whew! That was an education! The preparation a pitcher goes through is unbelievable! Love Kyle. With his laid back personality (does anything upset him?) he'll live to be 100! 👍🏻
I was fortunate enough to be at this game. My wife was so confused about why it was over so fast, but it was an absolutely incredible showing of Hendricks' talent. Getting to see the thought process and mindset that he puts into his performances was really interesting to see, great video!
Cubs repeatedly make feature-length documentaries that ALL teams can enjoy (except maybe the Cards hahaha). This is exactly how teams should be marketing their players and exploits; videos like these will help the sport as a whole. Between Ohtani bringing in foreign markets and making news headlines, Jomboy bringing baseball content to the masses with his featured breakdowns, and high quality productions like this, I'm very hopeful for the future of Baseball. I brushed off Baseball until I was 23, and I'm 28 now. I missed my opportunity to see so much history being made, and am adamant about not missing out on anything else going forward. Really cool video! I wish there were more teams willing to spend the capital on features like this.
Watched this game live, went to make some food at the beginning of the game and when it was done it was already the 5th lol. Rolled a blunt and it was the bottom of the 7th. I couldnt believe how fast that game was, it was amazing
I watched that game, nice breakdown. Having said that, wow this edit knocked it out of the park.. err.. pitched a shutout. Great production value here, wonderful watch.
True but the same could be said for no balls in play. But it would be very impressive. But also impossible with the batter knowing that pretty much every pitch will be in the strike zone.
This is done so well, not only in the editing and cinematography but also how the story is incredibly well thought out and mixed with the knowledge of the staff and players behind the scenes. Thank you for this amazing piece of baseball media Cubs.
Don't need another one of those. The Cubs followed that win with 11 straight losses. Coupled with the Brewers 10 game winning streak it triggered the Cubs sell off.
I think being a pitcher is one of the coolest positions in all sports. a lot of that game is decided by you as the pitcher. You are the captain of that ship and it's up to you to help keep it afloat. Seems like the Cubs often have good pitchers. I'm not exactly a Cubs fan but I'm still glad they finally won their World Series. I probably could have been playing on the opposite team and I still would have been glad
Honestly, even though he’s allegedly a horrible person off the field, Trevor Bauer has a lot of really detailed explanations of pitch tunneling on his channel.
I don't usually watch the players talking about their approach to playing. I've found this enlightening. It kills me to see Rizzo and Zobrist, knowing they won't be back.
I think this video really shows why they call him "professor" he doesn't pitch to overpower, he pitches smart. It's a very effective, very underrated pitching style these days.
Really well made and edited. At first couldn't stand the tech conceit since it was kind of like that cheesy TED, psuedo-intellectual, vibe but it was so well done and the content was so good that I have to admit it was awesome.
What do you think it will take for Kyle to make the MLB HOF? 250wins? 2500K? sub 3.40 ERA? He's about to turn 32....could do another 8 years. Look at Jamie Moyer and Rich Hill (both ex-Cubs btw)
OMG! Please, someone tell me the name of the song playing when they’re talking about the Goldschmidt AB. Starting at around 11:30 and especially at 12:10. Please!!!
this just goes to show you don't need to be a 90+ mph pitcher to be a major leaguer, its all about consistency and doing your research as well as how you micro manage every pitch you throw. It's like preparing for a test, you study and everything should add up, if not you improvise.
Coming from a Cardinal: This man is easily my favorite pitcher. Watched this game live, and although frustrating, it was an absolute masterpiece by Hendricks.
Similar to Hyun Jin Ryu, Hendricks is under appreciated simply because he doesn’t have upper 90’s fastball and a high K/9, which doesn’t make sense because there is so much more to pitching that those two. Don’t get me wrong, seeing high heat is satisfying and entertaining, but we musn’t neglect this part of pitching as well.

This is the coolest Breakdown ever, so many Jedi mind tricks used. Such a meticulous use of analysis, and prior knowledge.
This just proves how baseball is more of a mental sport than just a physical one. Hendo is just built for baseball and it shows.
90% mentality, the other 50% is physical
I have watched Kyle Hendricks pitch 7 times over the past 5 years and he so precise on his locations. He is one of the most under rated players in the league. He should have won the 2016 cy young award.

81 pitches is the exact amount of pitches to through a 27 K true perfect game, where you strike out every hitter on 3 pitches
9 immaculate innings
The odds of that happening are 1 in 4.434 * 10^38
How about 27 first pitch outs?
@@BigChuck525. thats good, but 27 K's on 81 pitches is the dream. throwing an entire game without a strikeout is kinda disappointing

The change up in for a foul ball to get a strike is pitching mastery!!!
I enjoy the X's and O's breakdown. Baseball is so intricate!
What kyle did that day so absolutely special but after watching this it makes it even more special.
The movement on his 2 seam fastball is absolutely fucking insane.
I'm a Reds fan but this dude's break is amazing.

Awesome performance will never forget it. Hendricks has helped my fantasy teams over the years and hoping for many more
I’ll be looking at Hendricks differently when he pitches against the Reds tonight! Awesome video
I was at this game along the first base line. The best-pitched game I have seen with my own two eyes.

I love these. You could put one together about any ordinary game (preferably a W) and I’d enjoy it.
