    Update: I got to 14 days without charging and the battery was at 9%, the lower the battery got the slower it seemed to discharge. The second week I did way more reading too, so Im happy with the battery life!

    Hi! I Have a kindle paperwhite 7th generation and IT STILL AMAZING! Battery life, holds 6,000-7,000 books and I've had it since it came out in 2017. Still relevant and worth it in 2024

      you never considered upgrading?? i own two kindles the gen 7 and the newest oasis. The oasis is amazing and since don't spend any money on digital books and just pirate them all, I was thinking of getting the 11 gen as well which is very small and portable. Oasis is just life changing with the buttons, ergonomic build and warm light

      @@halfwaysleet Of course i do! i love to spend money. But I've turned a new leaf on buying things I don't need, until I need them. At this current moment in time I don't need a new kindle simply because its newer. So I plan on using it until it breaks.I am tired of living the American super-consumer life. But also, this video was a review "IF" the Kindle 2015 sucks. And so I left my review saying it doesn't because it works exceptionally well and it doesn't lag. One thing I do miss about these kindles is that I used to bring 3G network for free on it. But like I mentioned above I am tired of the American consumer propaganda and so just like you I torrent my books and I get everything I can digitally from my local library💕

    I’m still using a kindle from 2015. It works brilliantly. Absolutely no reason to upgrade. And that’s by design: Amazon wants you to buy books. The e-readers are just vehicles for their core business.

    • @fonkyonder
      @fonkyonder 4 місяці тому +1

      Agreed! I bought 3 of these used at $50 a pop and they are still years after use!
      I can't sat that about the new readers that are absolute garbage comparing

      They don't add the dark mode feature on old kindles though (would've been simple enough if they wanted to)

    Hey, thank you for uploading this. I'm in the exact same situation as you. Just bought a Kindle Paperwhite 2015 refurbished from Amazon for a very good price, so definitely was eager to see what it looked like and how did it behave today. I owned a first-generation Kindle Paperwhite that I used until very recently, so this will be surprisingly an upgrade. Thanks!

    Had mine for like 7 years. Works flawlessly. My battery is in better health though, still lasts about a month with about 30min to 1 hour reading daily.

    I bought my 2015 Kindle Paperwhite refurbished in 2017 and it still works great! My only complaint is that the screen is a little fragile. That said, I'm not sure what would have withstood my kid whipping the screen with a phone charger. Only upgrading to the latest model now because I want the warm light feature... and the aforementioned whipping left little holes all over the display. Kids, man

    I have a 3rd gen Paperwhite from back in the day. To this day it works great. I'm glad you found that one. Much better it's rehomed than become ewaste :)

    Thanks, good to know people are still using these things.
    I have a Paperwhite from 2013 (gen 1?) and am still using it, as well as a Kindle Gen 4 (non touch, non light) from 2011 and that still works well too.
    I changed the battery on it, but still works as well as the day it was made.
    Your model has a an easily replaceable battery if you ever need to do so.
    The newer ones are slightly nicer, but even the older ones are better than paper. One of the books you were reading is ~2000 years old, so its not like using a device few years old is going to change much!
    I would absolutely recommend an older/used device for anyone who wants to read.

    So cool! I have a kindle paperwhite 6th generation, I got it back in 2013. It still works like a charm and does everything I need it to! I am just now considering getting the new paperwhite SE, for I think it would be a fun change.

    the Paperwhite 7th gen was a great device. That's when they really nailed the display. A real test is to try out the original Kindle Touch. (the first touch screen....it was infrared, not capacitive)

    The 7th generation was my first ever kindle and worked like a charm all these years no issues. I got the 11th Gen signature edition earlier this year for the screen size and I've still got this 7th gen as my travel kindle now. In today's age where technology obsolescence is a business strategy for most things electronic, the kindle has somehow escaped such crappy strategies

    I still use my 3rd gen (keyboard version)! I've had to replace the battery once, but otherwise I see no reason to spend the money to replace it, particularly for one that doesn't have the page-turning buttons.

    I have the basic model and it works amazing and I’m the second owner, I got it as a gift from my cousin in 2016. The only reason I would upgrade to the newest version is to have the light feature of the paperwhite (and because it’s pink, which I would cover with a case anyways 😭😭)

    Thank you for this. I am not able to find any new kindles in my home country and I don't feel like buying new things anymore. I have a OnePlus 7 and don't want to get new phone. I don't get the newness of things anymore. I am in my mid 30s and I want to stop consumerism behavior that I have struggled with so this video definitely helped. :)

    Just wondering if your still using this older kindle?. I just got a new paperwhite last month on a fathers day deal and now got a basic 2022 on a prime deal for travelling to and from work.(basically don't trust myself not to loose it 😂) You probably may already know this but if not its worth knowing to not use a fast charging plug as it can ruin the battery. I only found this out when mine stopped charging on first charge with my paperwhite, but it's been fine since one I realised the mistake .

    • @TheDShow
      @TheDShow  5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah I usually don't use fast chargers on things Im not sure about unless I don't really care about the device. I have heard of it happening like you said but haven't had it happen to myself. Thanks for sharing

      keep it, jailbreak it if you still can, and use it as an awesome home assistant screen ... but if you cannot jailbreak it in minutes (i.e. if you have to modify it to access the serial port then its not worth the trouble). if it still can jailbreak it will be worth something to someone.

    I have my kindle paperwhite 7th gen since 2016, and just did the log file you demonstrated. I have 46 cycles. So... guessing yours is not refurbished... Battery lasts for about 6-8 weeks... let's say 7 weeks.. times 46... = 2.254 days.. 6,2 years... about right i'd say...

    The good thing about Kindle's (and other similar "major brand" ereaders like Kobo or Nook) are their super optimized, Linux-based OS hence why it runs so well still and can still get updates even on an almost 10 year old device.
    The current models DO have way faster performance (faster to navigate menus and less full screen refreshes) and some extra niceties (8 or 32 GB of storage instead of 4, Audible Audiobook support via Bluetooth, thinner bezels, bigger battery, a flush instead of sunken down screen, more LEDs for a brighter backlight, said LEDs now support color changing for a warmer tone at night, USB-C, ambient light sensor to auto adjust the backlight, and optional Qi wireless charging on the "Signature Edition" model) but the core experience is basically the exact same.
    Nowadays it's becoming more common to have eReaders from smaller companies like Boox that run full Android which of course gives you the benefit of loading any source for books (you can literally run Kindle, Kobo, and Nook's apps all on the same device and a lot more) but I do wonder how well those will hold up in a decade with how much more "heavy" Android is.

    • @TheDShow
      @TheDShow  7 місяців тому +1

      I'm mostly looking forward to seeing how good colour e-readers become, but the true Eink colour ones, not the ones using an additional RGB colour screen layer.

    • @pinec0ne
      @pinec0ne 7 місяців тому

      I agree. I am hesitant to upgrade to an ereader with Android put on it. My Kindle Paperwhite 7th gen still works fine, but I can't imagine how much slower and battery-hungry it would be if I was running Android on it.
