    In this video I demonstrate the standard that is required to pass the ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) Part 2 test, focusing on town / urban driving. The part 2 is to test you ability to drive to a high standard so you can then pass on these skills to your learners. The footage was filmed in Redhill which is one of the part 2 test centres in the south, the other being Guildford test centre.
    Key Points on Town Driving:
    Mirrors: Using them consistently and effectively, i.e. making sure other road users are responding to your actions. Checking BEFORE signalling, changing speed and direction.
    Signals: Always informing other road users of your actions giving them sufficient time to respond.
    Position: Always in a position giving you the ability to see and be seen. Ensuring your position makes your intentions clear to other road users.
    Speed: Ensuring you are driving at the appropriate speed and always within the speed limit. Ensuring your speed is predictable to other road users and you can respond to others mistakes without drama. Trying not to stop where possible to both save fuel and reduce the risk of being rear ended.
    Gears: Avoiding coasting / riding the clutch. Always being in the most appropriate gear for a balance between fuel efficiency and car control. Block changing the gears where appropriate.
    Look: Anticpiate the actions of other road users, ensuring you are able to respond without drama. Ensuring observations are junctions are effective so you can pull out without casuing other road users to slow, stop, swerve or swear.
    Think twice, decide once.

    The ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) part 2 test requires a high standard of driving, and as such a concrete knowledge of the 'rules' and procedures in the Highway Code, Driving: The Essential Skills and Know Your Traffic Signs. The theory of this should have all be revised when taking your part 1 test.
    Remember, you are not looking to drive like a learner to how your instructor taught you 30 years ago, you need to drive like an experienced driver demonstrating that concrete knowledge of all the DVSA publications listed above.
    If you have any questions about anything mentioned on this video please leave a comment. You want to go into the part 2 test knowing EXACTLY what the criteria is, you can then pass this onto you learner drivers.
    Make sure you have also checked out the gov.uk website to further clarify exactly how the part 2 test works
    www.gov.uk/adi-part-2-test
    Preparation is the key, fail to prepare = prepare to fail.

    "We are not just checking mirrors for the sake of checking mirrors" Oh we are. Especially prior to accelerating. We are literally making processes that or unconscious brain has already mastered in the control of our conscious minds - which is unreliable at best. But that's what the test calls for.

    A question for which I have received multiple answers to: When approaching traffic lights, what gear would it be best to be in to anticipate lights changing to amber then green? This is for AD1 part2.

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  3 роки тому +3

      The question would have multiple answers.
      Depends on:
      - what speed are you driving at (20, 30, 40, 50???)
      - what are the road conditions (flat, hill, snow, rain)
      - what car are you driving (1.0 petrol, 3.0 diesel, 5.0 petrol!)
      You need to be in a suitable gear, which will be subject to your speed, so the car is being fuel efficient, typically not revving over 2,000, but also not struggling, for example may need to be in a lower gear with higher revs if going uphill.

    Hello mate your videos are quite helpful as I have got a Adi part 2 test booked next week and i do not have a clue about the routes there, I am from Birmingham as this centre was the only place with a test date available. Can i download the test routes from somewhere?
    Thanks

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  9 місяців тому +1

      Test routes are not published, not are they often any help.
      If you find test routes they are likely to be outdated due to DVSA stoping publishing them a good 10 years ago.
      Instead focus on developing your driving skills, not learning routes.
      If you have the correct skills you should pass no matter where you drive, I passed a 1.5 hour advance test at the DVSA headquarters a few years ago, no knowledge of the area at all.
      I just drove around the test centre for an hour of so, seeing how you enter and exit the test centre area, and then doing any roundabouts to get a rough idea. No issues.
      It’s a bit different for a leaner, knowing the area helps a lot, but not as an experienced driver, your skills should be exceptionally high.

  • @matinmohammadi186

    Hi,
    As you leaving the roundabout do you have to check center mirror left mirror then signal or can you do just left mirror then signal?
    Some of the roundabouts you don't really have enough time to check center mirror even if you do you can't really judge traffic behind you as you go round

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  3 роки тому +2

      Technically you should ANYTIME you are doing to signal left you should check middle and left mirror BEFORE signalling, including exiting roundabouts. This is why it is MirrorS Signal Manoeuvre, NOT Mirror Signal Manoeuvre.
      Bear in mind on a mini roundabout there may not be time to check mirrors and signal to exit, as per highway code, it is also often not needed as the mini roundabout is likely to only have one lane and very small, so very unlikely someone will try to overtake you on the left as you try to exit.
      If it is just a small roundabout, not mini, and you don't feel like you have time it could mean you are going round the roundabout too fast.

    Do you tell your pupils speed cameras or safety cameras?

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  3 роки тому +1

      Speed cameras as that is what they are officially called, however safety cameras makes more sense as it emphasises the reason for them.
