why can't the funds be transferred electronically? i don't want to receive a physical check especially the way the post office makes mistakes with peoples mail

This is exactly why I'm scared to receive this roller over check by mail.
Why can't fidelity directly and electronically send to Vanguard?

Great video, one note from Vanguard's site regarding 401k rollovers: "If the check is made payable to Vanguard, DON'T endorse it. Just make sure it includes your Vanguard account number before mailing it to us [or depositing via the mobile app]. If the check is made payable to you, endorse it, make sure it includes your Vanguard account number, and mail it to us within 60 days."

i like how you talk to them, simple to the point , no time for convos, ( which they want to convince you to stay)

? Is there anyway to rollover a small amount from fidelity to vanguard or does it have to be the whole amount?

I did this in 2020 using the Cares Act to get around my employer not wanting to let me access my funds while still being employed. I will say that while I was coming from a roth 401k, I was only able to roll over my roth contributions to a roth ira. They had me roll over the gains I earned over the years at fidelity into a traditional ira.

Great epic video Jessica. What a PITA. It’s nice to see the whole process though. Thanks!

Yeah, the process definitely sucks, but sometimes it's necessary!

It took over 2 months for TIAA to move my Roth 403b over to Fidelity! The issue was that both these vendors are still under contract with my current employer and before an account can be transferred, there's another form that our HR needs to complete. That part was relatively simple but it still took 2 months and 8 phone calls! Luckily, TIAA sent the funds directly to Fidelity

Sometimes the process is much more difficult than it should be. Sorry your process took so long, but glad it finally worked out! Good job keeping in contact with them to keep it going

such a long convoluted process just to manage YOUR OWN MONEY
anyway i'm doing this exact process now and of course the websites for both fidelity and vanguard are different than they were a year ago. also there doesn't seem to be an online version of the process like you showed here for depositing your check. is this because i have a traditional rollover IRA instead of roth?

Amazing video! I have watched other videos talking about rollover but most of them talk about it and do not actually show the process with a real life example. I have aquestion if I may asked. If you have after-tax money in a 401k, can you rollover to an ROTH IRA? even if you have pre-tax and roth 401k contributions? I know if it is called "MEGA backdoor Roth"; however, I have not seen a video where it actually give a real life example. Thanks!
