Brings a tear to my eye! Glad the Beatles were around when I was a kid. Awesome collection! I did make a trip to the Grammy museum a few years back in LA and stood in front of George's Gretch Jet, Ricky 12 string, the blue Fender Strat that was painted with day glo paint on the front, and a few suits for good measure.
Thanks so much for sharing your collection with us. I bought a ric 12 string years ago and spent 2 hours a day trying to make it feel comfortable in with my cording hand. Never could make it work and sent it back to sweetwater. it broke my heart that it wasn't made for my hands. I',m a strat and jazzmaster and gretch neck kind of guy. The 1.68 inch neck fits my hands very comfortably. I'm old enough to have had the pleasure of seeing the Beatles in their last concert at Candlestick park.
As a massive Beatles fan, I am so jealous of you for owning these guitars.... I would love to own that Rickenbacker and those Gretsches, especially the Tennessean, Country Gentleman and Duo Jet
kitty kat Ric basses sound nice, but are big and are very heavy. If you like damaging your shoulder with a Les Paul, you will like further damage to your shoulder with a Ric bass.
Wow, what an excellent collection of Beatles' guitars! 20 years ago, I owned the Rickenbacker 360/12v63. Loved the sound. Hated the neck (if you have average, thick fingers, it does not work well higher than the 5th fret, as you probably know).. So, I gave it away (bad decision, but my friend loves it). Thanks again, and I love your videos! Cheers.
I own a mess of beautiful guitars, including custom shop Gibson's and Fender's, but that rosewood Tele makes me so envious. Gah, you're so lucky! I also agree with your opinion of the SJ-200. Out of all my acoustic guitars, the SJ-200 is my absolute favorite. I'm constantly grabbing it out of it's case and playing it. I'm truly in love with that guitar. It's the one guitar that I will literally take with me to my grave. I love your collection, by the way. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Fantastic collection of beautiful guitars. I live just a few miles from all the homes of the Beatles here in Liverpool and have got to say the Beatles are just as big here now as they were before. Fantastic guitars and best wishes from Liverpool home of the greatest band in the world.
George didnt just use the Tennessean on "Help", he used it on "A hard days night", "Beatles for sale", and "Rubber soul", and recorded with it much more than the Country gent..
Thatmaninrio It was used some on the "Help!" recordings but more importantly was used for the "Help!" movie, and live performances during that period of the bands touring. First used live during a Christmas performance at Carnegie hall, it became his main live guitar there after and through the second US tour in 65 until replaced by the Epiphone Casino. I would still argue that the country gent was used more in the studio however. To my knowledge he didn't even acquire the Tennessee Rose until his second Country Gentlemen was destroyed/stolen. Please let me know if you have any evidence otherwise as I love to learn! All the best.
I own a Rickenbacker 330/12 fireglo that was made in 2005. It has the toaster pickups. I have been trying to investigate how that model from 2005 has the VOS toaster pups. The serial number just tells me the guitar was made in 2005 . Maybe the original purchaser made a special order from Rickenbacker or maybe he/she purchased the guitar and replaced the high gain pups with the toasters. Any guesses here? BTW it is an incredible guitar!
Hey dude, this truly is an amazing guitar collection you have here. Man, I'd love to own a Rickenbacker someday, let alone a whole collection of Beatlesque guitars!
Just when I thought I was done LOL.. I own 4 Rickenbackers. The 12 strings are the 1993 Plus and the 660 because of the wider nut width. and the 620 and 360 6 strings all in FG. The 620 is a great rhythm guitar like the 325. Thanks so much for the video.. Thumbs up
George Harrison had two Gretsch Country Gentlemen guitars that he purchased. The first was a 1962 Gretsch Country Gent with two twist up mutes, for the bass and treble strings. The second was a 1963 Gretsch Country Gent with two lever effectuated mutes, one for the three bass strings and the second for the 3 treble strings. The 1962 Gent had large knobs (the same knobs as the volume and tone controls). The knob for the bass mutes was uncomfortable to the underside of George's bicept, so he removed the knob. Over the years, many people have erroneously assumed that the 62' only had one mute. The two Country Gents were great guitars.
Used to play in a Beatles / Stones / Dave Clark Five cover band when all the Beatles were alive ... had a lot of fun doing that ... your vid was very well done and Yes it must have been a PITA ! My collection is not as impressive , but still love those guitars .... where would we be without the guitar ????? Dullsville I am sure !!!
AS YOU PREDICTED I AM THE SOMEBODY THAT WILL POINT OUT THAT AT LEAST ONE MUTE SWITCH IS USED ON THE COUNTRY GENT ON "DON'T BOTHER ME" TO ACHIEVE THAT PERVASIVE CLICK CLUNK CLICK THROUGHOUT THE SONG.
Waited for the Rickenbacker 4001 bass that Paul played for the remainder of the Beatles albums and all his Wings albums too..... Hige hoke in your collection mate! I have three Rickenbacker bass guitars, they have such a distinct sound and the quality is supurb... guess thats why Geddy Lee and Chris Squire loved them as well? Oh,,, love my Horner Beatle bass too... surprizingly fat tone for a short scale hollow body bass...
Lennon's 325c Rickenbacker was originally created in 1958 for Jazz players who wanted a short scale neck for ease of quick playing. It was NOT a "trainer" guitar as it has always been priced as an expensive model.
Hi Peter. Thank you for the info on the 325c Rick. I did not know that. I own a Rickenbacker 330/12 fireglo that was made in 2005. It has the toaster pickups. I have been trying to find out how that model from 2005 has the VOS toaster pups. The serial number just tells me the guitar was made in 2005 . Maybe the original purchaser made a special order from Rickenbacker or maybe he/she purchased the guitar and replaced the high gain pups with the toasters. I never found anything on the Rick site to indicate they re-issued that model with VOS pups. Any guesses here? BTW it is an incredible guitar!
My first really good guitar was a Gretsch. I also have a Rickenbacker 325 although mine is semi acoustic, with the f-hole. Funny thing is I never really play it because it's size makes it a little difficult. I bought it mostly because I love the Beatles. The Gretsch plays like dream, though. Great collection! Thanks for sharing.
nice vid dude, i love this stuff too, john's rick is beautiful -- didn't realize all of the facts that you state about his rick, good stuff ... good channel ... it is tiny ... take it easy.
I am drooling. Yours is one of the best guitar collections I have seen - from the perspective of quality and taste (the latter meaning that I only have a couple of the guitars you have, and want the rest that I do not have!). Many thanks for posting this. May I suggest adding a 'Rocky', and a Rikhi Ram senia-Maihar gharana sitar (although I do not know whether George's sitar had an open, half open, or closed jawari. I will try to find out)? And maybe a Futurama would be quite affordable, and a neat thing to have. Love the drum cover with 'The Beatles' on it - where did you buy that? Saw a great Greg Koch video yesterday (one of the series in which he is playing various guitars for Wildwood guitars), and during the duo jet video, the gentleman with Greg told a wonderful story about Gretsch managing to locate Ivan Hayward, from whom George bought his duo jet. I highly recommend searching for, and watching that video. And here is another version, telling the same story (same guy as the one who talked with Greg Koch) ua-cam.com/video/EGdWa5mwW4k/v-deo.html Re. the Country Gentleman, another difference between George's two models (in addition to the one you mentioned about the mutes) was that the mutes on one guitar screwed down, while on the other guitar the mutes used some kind of manual switch-flipping method to make them go down. Yes, please share stories about how you acquired the Tele. I almost died when I saw that. And I would love to hear the guitars 'in action', too.
Very nice collection! I think the 360/12 is a 360/12V63, though; not a 360/12C64. It has a different headstock and trussrod cover, and Philips head screws on the pickups, as opposed to slotted screws... Either way, still an awesome guitar. Really enjoying your videos.
With the Mitchell 12 string you should do what most people do and tune it down a full tone and use a capo on the second fret. Doing this makes 12 string easier to play. Best wishes from Liverpool.
Nice collection! What year is the J-200? I have a 04 Hummingbird and just scored a 95 J-200 and 93 UK AC-30! My J-200 looks just like yours and is awesome!! Thanks for sharing your squad!!
Just got my Gretsch George Harrison Duo Jet yesterday but now that I'm watching this video again, I noticed your case has a brown handle while mine has a black handle. I've seen pictures of different years models of the George Harrison model and there are some differences. Like the heel for example. I've seen ones with a more rounded heel and ones with a more flat heel. I know that doesn't matter but that was the first time I've seen differences in something that was from the same line so I was a bit intrigued. I guess I thought they had patterns they had to follow or the CNC machines just made them all the same. But over all the years of the Duo Jets, there are been a lot of differences. Different headstock shapes, white heel, or just a plain mahogany heel.
Excellent video; some beautiful guitars, especially the Holy 'Ed Sullivan' Trinity - Rickenbacker 325, Hofner Violin Bass and Gretsch Country Gentleman. One question - where did you get the 'Love' (MMT) drumhead?
You should get a Gibson J160e, I got one in 2010, it's the John Lennon 70th anniversary, sounds brilliant, it doesn't come cheep. I youse to own a Rickenback 325 myself but got rid of it cause I was in a band and wanted a fender telecaster, it was the biggest mistake of my life, but I'm in the process of saving money to get one back, one hard lesson I've learnt is to never sell your guitars. John Lennon's first Rickenback 325 58 he got it sprayed black down the road from my house Cleveland street Birkenhead Merseyside by one of his mates who played at the cavern, it was a coach company who sprayed it black. Keep on playing, fuck all the negative comments, you should come to Liverpool and get up in the cavern with me I'm sure they'll let us have a good jam👍✌
I believe George's first Rickenbacker 360/12 was bought during their first U.S. visit as was John's second 325 (Feb. 1964) whereas his second 360/12 was given to him by a Minneapolis music store (in 1965).
Hey Matthew. Many thanks for this. Where did you get the 'Magical Mystery Tour' drum skin? And I could not see a video on your 'Rocky' - would love to hear about that. And what about an SG? Ever thought of getting one of those?
That’s actually a 360/12V64 from the late 80’s or 90’s. The C63 doesn’t have “Made In USA” on the truss rod cover. The pickups are hotter as well on the V series models.
Interesting thing on the 12 ric, the thicker strings are on top and the octaves are below on each set of strings. Other 12 strings have the octave higher string on top.
Nice collection. However, I hope you do realize that the Hofner 500/1 is in fact a Re Issue, probably less than 8 years old. Nice collection though, I just hope you didn't pay for the Hofner at a "vintage' price.
Camron Wafer That is a hard one. In my opinion they are two of the most iconic Gretsch models but when comparing the two directly they are almost nothing alike. If you're looking for something that can play almost all of the Beatles music and also aren't concerned about the size, the country gentleman is the one to go for. However if you don't mind spending the extra money, the Duo Jet might be my pick. Not only is it good for early Beatles but for a lot of other music, ranging many decades. Please let me know if you have any specific questions and I'll do my best to answer them. All the best.
Hey, thanks for the advice. I've been playing an epiphone acoustic guitar for a few years, so the jet or the gentleman would be my first electric guitar. I've saved up a little over 5k so far, so I could do either. I wish I could get my hands on these guitars, but that's not an option since I live far out from any guitar store that has them. I guess the music I would be interested in playing would be earlier rock n roll like Chuck Berry, Little Richard, early Beatles's music (please please me/Beatles's for sale), and maybe some more 'modern' music like The Smiths for instance. Thanks for the help again.
Camron Wafer So if you do play a lot of the earlier music the Country Gent might be the way to go. Most of that stuff was recorded on larger bodyied guitars like the Country Gent including Chuck Berry and Little Richard. On top of that the Filtertron pickups in the Country Gent are a staple in the Gretsch world. Combined with the large body you'll get some succulent bell like tones when played clean. As for the Duo Jet...I'm not sure if you've ever played a les Paul, but to me that is most like a Duo Jet than any other guitar. It can still get those lovely clean tones but it really shines when some distortion is added. Also the pickups are hotter and the body is more dense so it has better sustain. I wish I could tell you definitively which one to get but I'm afraid that is up to you. I would say based off the type of music you say you play, I would lean towards the country gentleman. If you ever have the opportunity to take a road trip to a store and test them out I would highly recommend it. If that's not possible at the very least you can buy one of them new from a company like SweetWater or MusicansFriend and for some reason if you end up hating it, you can return it and get the other model. Either way I don't think you'll go wrong. Let me know if I can help you in any other way. All the best. -M
Camron Wafer The Duo Jet would be better for that however with a little time messing around with pedals and amp settings you can get that lovely driven tone out of the Filtertrons in the Country Gentlemen. You won't have the same sustain and tone like the Duo Jet, but no doubt you can get the crunch you're looking for. The only reason I don't favor the Country Gentlemen for that style of music is because of the body size. Something about playing heavier rock on a large body I find weird and not ideal when compared to a small bodied guitar. All the best! -M

It is super cool you have that connection with Gretsch! That is something that not too many people have and you have so many beautiful guitars!
Fantastic video! Thanks for sharing this with us and your time... Cheers, Matthew!
I literally would give any organ you want for this collection
Is the nut sack an organ? Or is it to close to the skin flute?
paco hernandez what a fucked up question
Excellent video Matt! Enjoyed your little tour of your collection. You can see you took your time making this video and it shows, well done my friend!
Some serious money! But know the feeling having nice guitars! Thanks for the vid!
I can't stop drooling, lol Great collection of guitars.

Fantastic upload my friend, really nice collection!!!!. Big Thumbs up from Spain and have a nice Week: Javier.
I can't even imagine how much money you spent on all of these
Im gonna guess and say 15k or more
No Rick bass so it doesn't count.
One thing is for sure though, the guy likes to brag about it with this video.
He probably did not. He must have a rich daddy Pooh, that can afford expensive guitar lessons for him also.
kitty kat Ric basses sound nice, but are big and are very heavy. If you like damaging your shoulder with a Les Paul, you will like further damage to your shoulder with a Ric bass.

Nice video. Been a Beatles fan since the beginning. I always wondered how do you insure a collection like that. Thanks for sharing.
If he dosent he should those guitars are kinda rare
Very entertaining and informative and the pictures were "fab". A top notch production! Thanks for doing it.

love the 325 but the price is through the roof. I'm prettty sure it'll sound good in indie rock music
Look up the video of the song "Sure" by Hatchie. She plays one on that song.
Awesome collection and great explanations! That Rosewood Telecaster is amazing, gotta see more of that.

Hi. Very very nice colletion. I´m prepairing mine working on a video too. Soon will post. Hope you will enjoy Hamburg era guitars. Congrats!!!

Shut up and take my money! Lmao I would kill to have just one of these guitars. Cool collection dude! Rock on
Hey dude, this truly is an amazing guitar collection you have here. Man, I'd love to own a Rickenbacker someday, let alone a whole collection of Beatlesque guitars!
Those guitars are beauties. Congratulation. I've got some of them but not all of them. I'm crying !
That is quite a collection. I don't think that I'll be reaching that level anytime soon but I'm sure as hell glad that I have my Rickenbacker 325.
The SG is missing! :)
Alex Gogoseanu didn't George use a SG on Revolver?
Oliver Aguilar Yes, he used his casino too I think.
Bobby Stinklehoffer yeah, I just saw that video. cool
Lady Madonna
George used an SG on Revolver, Sgt P, and hey bulldog along with some other future tunes.

Nice collection! What year is the J-200? I have a 04 Hummingbird and just scored a 95 J-200 and 93 UK AC-30! My J-200 looks just like yours and is awesome!! Thanks for sharing your squad!!
I like George’s head you put on your bod. Good fit!
Nice collection dude! And are you thinking about getting a rickenbacker 4001s bass?
Different headstock shapes, white heel, or just a plain mahogany heel.
woah these are beautiful
That's my dream, to own a collection like that, not a beatle theme, but a collection itself.
Great collection; impressive. Thanks for sharing. I'm surprised though...no (acoustic) Gibson J-160E??
I believe George's first Rickenbacker 360/12 was bought during their first U.S. visit as was John's second 325 (Feb. 1964) whereas his second 360/12 was given to him by a Minneapolis music store (in 1965).
Both the first 360/12 and second 325 were given to them in feb 64 by FC Hall, who owned Rickenbacker
Awesome. Lovely rosewood tele !
Hey Matthew. Many thanks for this. Where did you get the 'Magical Mystery Tour' drum skin? And I could not see a video on your 'Rocky' - would love to hear about that. And what about an SG? Ever thought of getting one of those?
The Futurama Grazioso is my goal to have.George harrison played one. There is just a vibe there.
That duo jet is beautiful
That’s actually a 360/12V64 from the late 80’s or 90’s. The C63 doesn’t have “Made In USA” on the truss rod cover. The pickups are hotter as well on the V series models.
You gotta show us that j-200
A video of its own
Interesting thing on the 12 ric, the thicker strings are on top and the octaves are below on each set of strings. Other 12 strings have the octave higher string on top.
Very nice collection you didn't dissapoint
Well done to me it looks amazing and history and Awsome
Cool guitars, nice video. What video editing software do use?
Nice collection. However, I hope you do realize that the Hofner 500/1 is in fact a Re Issue, probably less than 8 years old. Nice collection though, I just hope you didn't pay for the Hofner at a "vintage' price.
So I'm debating against the duo jet or country gentleman any advice?
What do you think about the country gentleman, and music like Queen and Pink Floyd? Thanks again!
