    The bore looks pretty good. if you cant see rifling at the tip of the barrel crown bullets will tumble when u shoot. unless u shoot round nose flat based bullets. I really wish PPU would start making round nose bullets.

    I really enjoyed this video. I had a C&R FFL in the early 90s and ordered a few surplus Lithgows from Navy Arms when they got a boat load in for the lofty sum of $39.95 each plus shipping. They were about like yours and cleaned up nicely. I gave one to my father for a fathers day present as he had a surplus 303 as a kid as his first centerfire rifle to hunt with who enjoyed having a 303 again. He still has it.

      Sounds like great purchases. Lithgows are well made and probably have served you and your father well. The Lithgow factory purchased it's machinery and learned alot about mass production techniques from the American firm Pratt and Whitney.

    Really cool example of one of these. I don’t ordinarily think much of hand-select but it really does seem to have worked out here especially for bore condition. Completely agree on clipping the end of the nail.

      Thanks, normally I pass on hand select fees but this one was worth it. I definitely don't want to catch the tip of that nail on my hand during cleaning or disassembly. So I will most likely cut the end of the nail off.

    Always check ur rifle for "bore spiders" I thought there was a dead bug or leaf in my berthier i got. well i went to wipe it out and it moved! It was some kind of crazy looking spider from either ethiopia or florida. I think it was an ethiopian bore spider

    I highly recommend that you follow the procedures that Mark Novak of the Anvil channel does on firearms like these. He converts the rust by immersing in boiling water for about 45 minutes and then “carding” with very fine steel wool or plastic brushes. It stops the rusting process and retains all the original finish that remains.

    I've bought 4 of these from RTI and they have all been excellent, none of them have the amount of finish left that is seen on yours but they are good shooters. One of them even had a slot for the magazine cutoff, which I am told it uncommon in rifles made in 1917. Only problem I've had with them is they charge me shipping fees to return guns that that agree are unsafe to fire even when the description of the product says they are safe to shoot.

    • @tfusilier44
      @tfusilier44  3 роки тому +2

      Having a magazine cutoff for 1917 is definitely not the norm. Interesting find there. What happened with the rifles that were unsafe?

      @@tfusilier44 One of the No 1 Mk 3s I ordered had a barrel that had a very loose barrel that could not be torqued down and the K98 ended up having no rifling when I paid for hand select for good bore. I started the return process in April, but when I would respond to their questions, it would take them a week or two to respond or they would just not respond at all. Its probably gonna take another month because they are prioritizing unloading new crates of guns and are short on staff.

    Great content man, I'd really love to see a quick video on your cleaning process/what products you use. You do a great job of cleaning them up without removing the patina.

    • @tfusilier44
      @tfusilier44  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks! I can go through the cleaning a bit in a future video. Basically all I do is soak the parts in Hoppes lubricating oil in the spray can. Then wipe them down, using 0000 steel wool or a brass brush on hardened grease. For the bore I use the Hoppes bore cleaner and a brass brush to remove all the crud followed by patches and a bore snake. For the wood I use boiled linseed oil and a rag to rub it in circles to bring out the grain.

    Looking good. Hopefully your bedding is still intact. I bought one from RTI also. Bedding springs were missing and the action needed to be rebeded. The stock pillar and draws were in poor shape. Bore is in excellent condition. Hopefully it will be a good shooter.

      Bedded well, it also has all the brass reinforcements in the rear of the forestock the Lithgow factory put in its later production models.

    Im planning on buying one of these from them. Honestly i wouldnt recommend buying from them and not getting the HS fee. Ive bought from them without it and gotten good ones but 2 of the rifles didnt have the best bores. and i didnt get HS fees on those two. fortunately none of the rifles ive got had sewer pipes like ive seen. ive had pretty good luck.

    Nice to see an Australian rifle, badly-needed in 1942 after the debacle of Singapore.

      Lithgows are great rifles. Their tooling and manufacturing processes actually came from the US vs Britain and I find them to be better quality than the British or Indian manufacturers. Especially like how the side screw in the nosecap is flush vs sticking out and open to being damaged.

    I bought a Enfield No4 Mk 1 from RTI with hand select good bore, the wood was fine and metal was worn but not bad. Inside the bore was completely covered in dirt, unfortunately after a deep clean of the inside of the bore it has a completely shot out bore and key holes. I tried contacting RTI but they completely ghosted me and now I’m stuck looking for another barrel. I’ve cleaned everything well and externally looks great but I wish I could find a decent barrel for it

    Funny, (our shitty liberal gun laws aside) you can always find enfields in excellent shape up here. So its strange to see rough looking ones. I mean, you do see them here. But there is always a giant abundance of them to pick from privately.
