I’ve been watching videos in which I have been told that in places like Cebu the language spoken is Cebuano. Nonetheless, I am reading Tagalog on LingQ and signed up for a Tagalog course on Udemy.
What I also noticed is the Spanish vocabulary influence on Tagalog. That is a plus for me since I have studied Spanish and am currently studying Portuguese.
Since Tim Keeley is Japanese, I will say about Tim, “Nagmula siya sa Hapon.”

The Philippines is linguistically diverse. Bisaya is effectively the lingua franca of the Visayans and Mindanao. Although Pilipino and English are the official languages of the country. Cebuano is the most known dialect of Bisaya.

Tagalog would be a great gateway language for the Austronesian languages. The reason, is the Filipino community is spread out throughout the world. The chances of practicing the language with someone is notably higher, than other Austronesian languages.
Although Indonesian and Malay are considered easier, they are not as widespread and are more concentrated in comparison. The Philippines having English as an official language helps the migration to other countries.
I wonder if there will be part 2 for gateway languages to other language families?
