    I’m a kitchen fitter and to be honest been using the finger method for years. Sometimes see the granite fixers using detergent spray and all they did was make a right mess, after a while the silicon starts to fray when the customer wipes it. I saw your vids a while back and have been using the tools you suggested, I bought a cheap kit from a Decoraters merchant and they were fine, but the other kit with the guide tool is a must for big grout lines. Gonna buy the long spatulas for behind sinks and taps but they are overpriced for what they are. Overall tho, the silicone comes out perfect now, well done for the vid mate, you DO learn something everyday, even if you have being doing for years 👏

    Hey yall, I bought this Kramer kit cause I was so stressed out about caulking my shower and IT WAS A GAME CHANGER!
    It works very well and has much improved the look and quality of my joints.
    To be fair, I end up scaping off a lot of extra unnecessary caulking, but I am getting better with practice.
    Also watch this guy's video on the "how to's" of proper caulking techniques. cheers

      I appreciate that John. Yes, you want to go with the smallest profile possible whilst overlapping by 2mm each side. That way you're minimising the wastage.

    These simple tools have transformed our jobs, I thought I was quite good at the finger swipe till I used these. You get a flawless finish everytime. I like the look of those spatula ones and the one that smooths out the grout lines never tried those but will definitely give them a go.

    I'm over 50 Charlie so have enough attention span to enjoy the detail in your full length vids. Have to say however that you do an amazing editing job to convey a message so clearly in a short like this.

    • @CharlieDIYte

      Thanks Stuart. Yes I'm afraid as a creator who's nearing 50 myself I find I'm in an industry that's changing all the time which makes it so difficult to plot any sort of long term strategy. UA-cam is running scared of TikTok at the moment and so is urging us all to do more short form content. So I've decided to do a short on Wednesday and my usual long form stuff on Saturdays. Thanks for the positivity. It's much appreciated as it's so easy to just criticise us when we roll out these shorter videos.

    I’ve fairly recently started re-sealing baths and showers since a customer started giving me jobs at different properties and it does take practise and some trial and error and you will make mistakes.
    However using soapy water on baths has definitely been a no no for me as I often end up with silicone not sticking/gaps when doing this.
    A simple profiling tool with a straight diagonal profile is best and isn’t messy providing you apply the right amount of silicone in the first place.
    Practise and patience and the right tools for the job are key for a quicker and easier job.

    • @CharlieDIYte
      @CharlieDIYte  9 місяців тому

      Agreed. Anyone who says the soapy water technique is best is lazy and doesn't care about the integrity of the joint.

    Can anyone suggest some silicone for my new bathroom? Last time, i used some Dowsil 785 which is supposedly good stuff, but i found it really stringy and hard to work with. Are they all like that?

    The only issue I had with this technique was that I wasted quite a bit of silicon even though I cut the tip as you suggested. Love the joints though.

    Hi Charlie, just want to say i'm an avid fan of your work/videos and a few of them have been super applicable/useful. Thank you so much for these videos and teaching people why you do something as opposed to just showing people how to do it... maybe that's the engineer in me wanting to know. The fairy liquid is such a common sense one (not to use it as it's the very thing you're trying to prevent) but I would have done that without your video. Will be watching a lot more of videos and hope to support the channel as well.

    • @kdmaj
      @kdmaj Рік тому

      @@CharlieDIYte I think the 1min videos are really useful and bring attention to your longer videos on the subject which I would also watch. It gives me a quick insight into the topic and whether I want to learn more, which I needed to :) Keep up the great videos. To give you some context I was going to redo my entire bathroom (due to some ceiling water staining directly below) at huge expense and then decided to redo the seals on the bath myself. Needless to say the new seals fixed the issue and both your videos really helped because I built up my silicone in layers due to some huge gaps.

    Just saw this and after 20 years in a house some butchers built the silicon has turned black in the bathrooms from mould getting under it. I clicked on the links you kindly provided and I am fortunate I just put new batteries in my pacemaker.
    The Cramer Profiling Kit 7 ranged from AUD$50 to $174
    The Fugenfux Profiling Tool was AUD$51.97
    The Cramer rotating silicone nozzle 4 set AUD$39.07 . I was especially keen to get this one but not at that price. As for the rest I guess I shall have to be diligent and make sure I don't have soapy stuff on my fingies when I "profile" the silicon bead. Bloody annoying because *every* silicon seal has to be replace by the clowns who built this house.
    Still, the video was very helpful so I am very much appreciative for that.
    *Thank You* Charlie. 👍

      That reply was spam. You obviously can't paint over silicone but if that's not an issue, something like Soudal www.soudal.co.uk/diy/applications/sealing-windows Just make sure it's UV resistant. I put CT1 on my windows and it completely disintegrated.

Fair enough, but I'm genuinely enjoying the experience of using it - and supporting British retailers rather than Amazon whilst getting shares at the same time (even though I make money from Amazon affiliate links). I don't think I mentioned WeShop in this video though or included links to it.
