@Payney84 Thanks. Glad you found it useful! The red one has gaps that you can fit the black sled to, which enables you to drag it over transverse (vertical) grout joints without the tool getting caught in each grout line, keeping the silicone joint nice and smooth.
Hi. Great video. I’ve tried many tools for removing old silicone. I agree that a Stanley knife is no good. I looked online for a knife with a flexible blade to get parallel with the surface in the corner. In the end I found the best thing to use is a fish filleting knife. They bend so you can get right in without scratching. You can also re sharpen them with a steel.
I'm 70 years old and have applied sealant countless times using various methods. I watched your video, paying particular attention to your research arguments. They made complete sense. I purchased a Fugi kit and followed all your advice on using it. I can honestly say that I have never done such a good job. Thank you
I’ve been a decorator for 30 years and I’ve always cut my caulk/silicone nozzles at a 45* angle. After watching your video I’ve realised I’ve been doing it wrong for all these years, and I’m now getting perfect results. Many thanks and great videos👍👍
Great to great from you. I love it when a pro is interested in innovating and learning new stuff - I personally think it puts them (you) in the top bracket of the profession 👍 Also, massively grateful you got in touch, as I've been convinced for a while that cutting the nozzle straight is more effective, but it's great to hear feedback from someone else on this point. Thanks again 👍👏
Thank you! When we moved into our new (old) home 20 yrs ago I hired a handyman to re-caulk all the bathrooms and they looked beautiful just like this. I have never seen another handyman that could do it so perfectly so I decided to get on UA-cam and learn how to do it myself. Thank you very very much!
This guys advice is amazing. I did a near perfect job of applying silicone as he advised. It seriously look neat and was easy to do. Made me feel confident. Sometimes the best teachers are the non-experts because the experts just carry on doing what they’ve always done but others re-evaluate ways of doing things with evolving technology and tools. Well done mate. The best silicone application video ever. And buy from his links in the description.
Genius! Just watched your two siliconing videos Charlie and you've set me up for life. Thank you. I'v been in the building game for 40 years and can't agree more about cutting the nozzle at 90 degrees and pointing it into the joint.
You are a legend. After twenty years of doing almost all what not to do tips in your first video on chaulking, and feeling insecure on re-siliconing my bathroom, i can now go to sleep, waking up like silicone - man, the new and improved DIY Hero! Thank you so much. These tips are a life saver!
Charlie, your videos are absolutely brilliant! You explain everything clearly and concisely and then go on to demonstrate using excellent videography. You have addressed everything that I have had issues with in the past in your earlier video, and now you've shown how to deal with corners and uprights in a very comprehensive and straight forward manner, using the best tools for the job. I have now ordered the shaping tool you demonstrated and look forward to completing my shower installation having followed your tuition. Keep making videos....please! Your explanations are exactly what I need and following your example makes DIY a joy and not a chore. Thank you so much.....your efforts are genuinely appreciated!
Hi David, I can't thank you enough for that comment. It's a long old process getting these videos out, not to mention fitting them around family life!! I'm working on one at the moment and I've been editing for more than 2 days, so you have no idea how valuable you're kind words of encouragement are. Don't worry, the videos will keep on coming, just at the moment they're not quite as regular as I would have liked!!
Thanks for this, I have made several poor attempts at removing and resealing our shower trays in the past. My efforts have been pretty poor. This video has improved my standard of work considerably. Thank you
Hi there am a bathroom fitter and I could say your advice to DIY people is better than the average bathroom fitter. It's the finishing that gives any new renovated bathroom that unique look. This guy is showing you lot the perfect way to silicone do it his way and you can do it for living.
Wow, thanks mate, I really appreciate that. I always think it takes great character for a pro to big up a DIYer like me. I suspect you're conscientious yourself and do a damn good job! Thanks again!
Thanks Charley. I’m doing my bathtub today and needs help. You’ve given me the best help so far. I will get the right tools before starting. Thanks a million Reg
I've seen a ton of tile, caulking, grouting videos, and yours is by far the best I've seen. From your methods, including "minor mistakes", to your tool usages and recommendations, to your focus on perfection (though you do not talk of this), Well done, superb instruction and explanations. Thank you.
Charlie your videos make the most sense out of all the silicone vids I've watched. Great tip for corners to do one continuous move into and around the corner - thanks.
I have never siliconed and I believe these videos by Charlie, are the most believable and trustworthy, for excellence. I hope to report back upon completion of my project(s).
Thanks Charlie, I followed the original video 2 years ago to replace some poorly done / mouldy grout. 2 years later, using your technique, the grout is still rock solid and looking great (although my religious wiping away of residual water each night has helped with the latter too!)
Great to hear that Mike. Mine too, although like you I've become a bit religious with the squeegee after each shower. Totally eradicates condensation though.
Used this system last night, Cramer 7 bought with your recommendation and delighted with the results. The hint about the right angle piece to remove errors was priceless. The other thing was I was using brand new sanitary silicone rather than one that had been sitting in my shed since the last job. It seemed to flow easier. Thank you so much for putting in the effort and having such an easy attitude and presentation technique.
Must admit I have always been a wet finger doer until I watched this and had my eyes opened !! cheers and will use the tool from now on, great results.
Thank you Charlie for this amazing tutorial for other fellow OCD sufferers. I'm not being sarcastic, your in depth explanation and procedure helped me solve a 20 year conundrum in my sons shower. I followed your instructions and it looks perfect.
Thank you, very much Charlie, this is the best approach I have been looking for. You helped me a lot! Exactly as you did I did my kitchen silicone and its perfect now. I trained the corner siliconing many times on the corner model - I think at least about 50 times, until I fully understood the procedure but I was rewarded by a good result. Thank you again, the best video!
very nice follow-up to your original video which I think is a must watch for anyone who is going to silicone for the first time and for those like me who had been doing it wrong for 40 years!
Great info. Better vid even than the previous. So glad I saw this because I bought the Cramer kit 7 straight away from Amazon. I’ve finally found the solution to not using my finger! I tried masking tape before, and it looked really neat, but I got that tiny lip that was left as per the previous video. Thank you so much for blasting the idea of using water and washing up liquid, or white spirits. Although they work, your video made it so obvious that water and white spirit could get behind the silicone without you knowing. Fantastic, keep it going as these videos are really informative.
Brilliant video. It's amazing how many people I know over the years who have bought similar profiling tools yet use them the wrong way round, using the profiled edge as it faces the silicone. All this does is finely smear out the silicone above and below your joint which then shows up on your tiles when viewed from an angle, it's a total bugger to remove too and invariably you end up mucking up your silicone seal in the process. Glad you talked about not using water too
Thank you Charlie. Your corner technique of doing the vertical joints first, and letting them dry overnight is awesome. It taught me so much. Then the warning that by spraying the silicone before scraping, will leaved gaps! Brilliant. As a matter of fact it is so good that I am going to send this video to my son! He lost his dad when he was only 15, and now that he is 25, he has started working in the Trades. Awesome lesson and a beautiful job.
great follow up to your previous video Charlie. I also ended up doing the vertical first, waiting a day and then the horizontal to get a perfect finish. I am chuffed to bits when I see so-called professional plumbers using their fingers to smooth off leaving a messy finish.
Purchased the Fugitive kit after watching your video and managed much better results even as a DIY person. Best informative video I have found. Thanks Charlie.
Charlie, great tip for doing corners as they have always been messy in the past. Homebase do some extra long nozzles for around £1 to £2 which are really useful for getting behind those pesky taps.
Thank you very much for your tips in re-siliconing corners. It has helped me tremendously in re-siliconing my quater quadrant shower cubicle. First time in my life, as a 45 year old woman to do re-siliconing in my life. Thank you very much for your tips. I feel so happy that it turns out like professionally done. 😁👍 Thanks to you. 😁👍💝.
I dont normally comment, but silicone has been a challenge for me. I bought these tools and followed this video. The results are perfect!! Tried many ways from many videos but this has finally made me proud of my work. Thanks you for this!!!
Just purchased a kit 5 after watching your last video and made a great job re sealing the bath and kitchen worktops. Think I spent longer removing the old silicone and ensuring the surface was clean with methylated spirit than it took to apply the new silicone. Really pleased with the results, would previously spent ages applying masking tape but this is much better.
I’ve used so called mastic men on my building projects. All using a bottle of soapy water and a stick. After your explanation on the use of soapy water. I now do all my own mastic work. Thank you for your patience of experimenting. 👍
Thanks a lot for the corner tip. But when it comes to the removal of old silicone i have found that nothing beats a multitool from Fein,Dewalt or Bosch just to name a few.
i always go from outside horizontal lines into the corner, then run the vert. you said to run verts first, but when you do that you leave a small lip on top of the horizontal, when the vert is done last it leaves a continuous flat flow over the horizontal every time.
@ Is there a good solution to doing the verticals and horizontals in the corners at the same time? I've been told by the manufacturer that it is best to do it in one run rather than letting one cure then siliconing on top of it due to a weaker bond.
I have been sealing showers and baths as part of my working day for years and it’s always great to learn something new thanks, as for the tap situation I always take them out of the bath or basin, the time it takes is worth the better finish and if you are a DIYer the time is your own
Hi Charlie, thank you so much for this video. I’ve been stressing about how to properly reseal our bath after having a screen replaced and now I’ve done the vertical first to cure over tonight. Tomorrow I’ll finish the job with confidence thanks to your tips. Top gent.
@@CharlieDIYte seems to have done the job 🤞🏻 I realised afterwards that I didn’t fill the bathtub with water like some suggest, does this matter much in your opinion? It’s not a new tub, been in place for at least 7 or so years I reckon.
Good video. If it works, thats all it maters. I've been using wooden sticks which comes in 5 sizes, and been doing for years with great success. Another one is magnum ice cream stick and spray wih soapy water - works wonders.
This is without a doubt the BEST guide on silicon I’ve seen so far! I’ve encountered all the problems he fixes with these gadgets. Wish I’d seen it earlier. Going to check Amazon for these tools now. THANK YOU!!!
I just bought the profiling set after watching your first video. You should sign up to Amazon's affiliate program and make something from show casing these products. I would never have bought this if it wasnt for your video.
I just had to say thankyou very much for this guide. I was worried about the finish I just knew that I would not get the finish I wanted. I followed your advice, I already had a kit but without the fancy attachment which allows the smooth finish which glides over grout between the tiles. I read and re-read the 1 page of instructions for use ages ago and many times since. It didnt have any sort of guide as how to hold the kit. Your video told me perfectly and the job I did was almost perfect. I cant wait to do my kitchen now!!
I’ve never done any of this before but my existing sealant is very poorly done so I decided to remover it and do it myself. This video has been brilliant in showing me how to approach it, what tools to get and tips for a great finish!
great video , but very hard to beat the corner of an old credit card , or pre paid meter card ,, as for stripping out old mastic , try sharpening an old filler scraper edge. total cost nothing. im going to try the square cut on the filler nozzle though ,that alone is worthy of a thumbs up.
I use those blades that push out for things like that. There's the right amount of flex in them to cut exactly flush to the surface. Just have about 3 inches of blade out. Works flawlessly.
This has been useful as I often end up faffing corners to make them look right. And the extra info for tools for behind taps.. excellent. You wouldn't believe how many kitchen worktops need resealing behind taps! Those bendy nozzles are now on my shopping list.
Just want to add, I bought a new build house recently, had to extend the bathroom tiling to the roof to install a shower. Bought the 7 piece and really pleased with the lines it gave both on the tiling & on the shower screen joint to the wall.
wow, if only in real life you had such perfect surfaces to silicone, without tile profiles..and the extra day just for verticals. a finger still beats those gizmos.
Great video, the vertical joint first was the answer , I let is go off overnight and the horizantal joint becomes easier.the tool is great , you don't have much time before it starts to skin off , so if it looks OK leave it .
I love that you have such high standards. Shame some flooring professionals either don't have the desire to learn such techniques or care to adopt them.
Thanks Charlie. Just re-hewed the silicone on my bath. Fantastic result with NO masking tape. Just a little tricky round the corners and at the ends but all in all very happy with the result.
Followed this video to the letter and now have a re-sealed shower tray which looks great and should hold up for years to come. As a complete novice to siliconing, even I managed to get that *chefs kiss* corner in the thumbnail. The toothed blade tool in the Fugi 7 kit was effective (and satisfying) at ripping out the old silicone after carefully sliding the blade tool behind both sides first. Cheers!
Thanks Charlie. I've been doing a lot of DIY lately and I've got 3 go-to channels on UA-cam that have become absolutely invaluable. Thanks for taking the time to do these videos. You've saved me from ballsing up my tiles! 😁
Great video! I was struggling a little in the restricted space behind a built in hob...I wanted to use the orange profiling tool with the black "guide/foot" to go neatly over the tiling joints...The easy solution was to cut the orange tool vertically in half...worked a treat!
These tools are awesome. I bought them after watching the first video. I don’t care what pros say, the tools provide a far far superior finish than a wetted finger. I recently did a bathroom for a friend and they were impressed by the quality of silicon finish. I trimmed one of the tools in half to clear the bath taps and it’s works brilliantly.
Great video Charlie. That first bit where you deliberately screwed it up (we've all been there), and then cleaned off and made a lovely joint afterwards was process demonstration at a very high level. Wonderful.
Superb video, followed your tips and replaced the silicone in my shower with ease, confidence and a perfect finish. Have done this job a few times in the past and each time have had problems using other techniques. All of your tips make doing this job simple especially the corner tip. Look forward to more videos.
Thank you so much for demonstrating how to do the vertical & horizontal joining! I am getting ready to recaulk my trough sink & this will be so helpful.
Hi Charlie I lived in UK 15 years ago and worked on building sites as a plaster, tiler , painter and so how life went. When we finished bathrooms the site manager never ever let us do finishes with silikons jobs. They Always called specialist which he charged him 500 pounds per day for the best results of the silikon jobs. I was always surprised how good finish he did as good as you. So. I am sending best regards in UK and I have to say I miss UK so much . Jan from Czech. :) ....and I am sending above very interesting video how to do the corners in one go. ...
Ah, Jan, thanks so much for your message. Blimey that's a lot of money isn't it, to earn in a day!! They probably used those wooden forming tools. I wonder how they did the corners as they wouldn't have time to wait for the vertical to set. Thanks again and good to great from you. The UK missed you too, my friend 👊
Siliconed my bathroom and shower recently and I've just been bought this kit for my birthday. Going out at the weekend to get some more tubes of silicon and redo both rooms, properly. Cheers, Charlie. Great video.
Thanks for the comment Andy. Make sure you get some decent mould resistant silicone, too. There's a bit about silicone removal in this video ua-cam.com/video/VlRNNlARX_M/v-deo.html that you might find useful.
This video arrived in my feed at exactly the right time. I’m about to silicone my bathroom tomorrow and I’ve been puzzling over the intersecting corners for a week now. I had come to the same conclusion about doing the verticals and letting them go off then the horizontals. I’ve complicated the matter by doing two different colours (grey tiles and white sanitary ware) so great on the tiles and white around the top of the bath etc. I also have the kit you used as I think I saw your previous video and bought it based on that. Anyway, thank you for your insight it’s much appreciated. Keep up the good work.
Fantastic tools for the job I have to do around my bathroom, which needs sealant replacing, as it’s looking tacky by contractors that did it. Thank you for the video, it’s very useful for us DIYers.
Thanks Indy. You're very welcome - good luck with the replacement. Take some time, get a decent silicone remover and removing agent and you'll do a great job.
I bought the Cramer set after watching your video and - some time before I needed it for silicone - it came in handy to profile tile grout in a wall niche. Am impressed with the kit.
Brilliant, thank you. I got myself a profile kit a few weeks ago which has been awesome on the couple of jobs recently. However, I’m excited about a re caulk of a bathroom and kitchen job I have on tomorrow after watching your videos 💪 I’m constantly learning and trying to improve my work, and videos like yours are invaluable resources! Legendary
So glad to hear that Gillian, thanks for letting me know. If you've got corners to do check out this vid if you haven't already ua-cam.com/video/EErbuodMOAM/v-deo.htmlsi=H5QajZahJfoM39WL 👊
I think this job is easily overlooked and if done badly, as it so often is, can really ruin the look of a newly fitted bathroom. I used to work alongside a tradesman who done siliconing for a living, and he was superb at it. All he used was different size/profile dowelling which he made himself, and the finish he left was A+. And, he made a very good living out of it. Small van, simple toolbag, and he earn't very very good money. Thanks for the tips Charlie and excellent tutorial.
Thanks Charlie! I was a first time siliconer and didn't have a clue what I was doing. I followed all of your advice, used the Cramer profiling tools resulting in a professional looking job 😁
as a glazier i have always cut my nozel at 90 DEG as otherwise material does not go into the join. Many painters make the same mistake when cutting at 45 DEG. Great explanation
Great little update video. A challenge i can't find many people covering is uPVC bathroom cladding with the little corner cladding strips, sealing over that is a faff! Also removal of silicon from uPVC is a faff since if you scratch it, you open yourself to other issues.
Thank you so much for the siliconing videos. I bought the cramer kit and have practiced/used it for a bathroom refurb and am so proud of the results. Watching your demos gave me the necessary advice and confidence to do a really good, enjoyable job. And by the way, prep for the work was hugely helped by having properly sharp chisels which I honed using the diamond slab and honing guide from Axminster that you recommended. The only thing I need to improve this system now is an angle setting jig or guide. Thanks again - brilliant!
That's excellent news Peter - thanks for letting me know how you got on. Funnily enough I have a video in the pipeline for the angle setting tool, but it will be a short while unfortunately as I've got a few important things to get out of the way first.
Hi Charlie, I bought the kit without the cutter after I watched your original video, so I will have to get the knife now to compleat the kit. I have not actually used it on a project yet but I did have a trial go when I received the first kit and thought it was brilliant.
*** Excellent video *** I wish I had seen this before I tried to silicone 2 corners in my kitchen. I struggled a bit but your way seemed a lot easier. Thank you.
Great video. I love the way you explain things....it makes so much sense. Silicone jobs are the bane of my life but your way looks so easier and sensible...thanks a million
Hi Charlie, excellent videos - really clear and detailed. I made a real mess of some clear silicone sealant recently and struggled to repair the finish and thought you might be interested in my solution - which you probably already know but just in case . . . I was sealing a ceramic sink to a reclaimed oak work surface finished with Treatex Colourtone and Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra - so I couldn't just cut the silicone out and start again without scratching through the wood finish. I left the silicone to cure for a couple of days while I thought about it and then couldn't face seeing the horrible look of the mess any longer and attacked it. I picked up a set of snap-off blades without a holder to start cutting and it occurred to me that if I used one blade to cut and another to sit underneath the silicone to protect the wood I might just tidy up the sealant without ruining the wood finish - and it worked. I slid the snap-off flat under the sealant to shear it off horizontally and then held the blade there while I cut down from above to create a clean surface on the silicone. I found that if I laid the horizontal blade on another one that gave me a better angle for the horizontal cut but the whole job was done without scratching my polished Treatex surface. The blades are Tajima Razar blades [www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B010SRSMIQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ] which are the sharpest stanley type blades I have found. Hope this is useful for someone. Cheers, Vin
Cheers Vin. Excellent work, mate - particularly not cutting into the wood which is very hard to do in practice. I'd have done something similar but wouldn't have thought to use the snap off blades. I have a Tajima tape measure on the recommendation of someone in this comment feed and love it! 👊🏻👍🏻

@Payney84 Thanks. Glad you found it useful! The red one has gaps that you can fit the black sled to, which enables you to drag it over transverse (vertical) grout joints without the tool getting caught in each grout line, keeping the silicone joint nice and smooth.
Is working when you apply plastic from glue gun as well?
Hi I was wondering if you are living in London for work ?

All this does is finely smear out the silicone above and below your joint which then shows up on your tiles when viewed from an angle, it's a total bugger to remove too and invariably you end up mucking up your silicone seal in the process. Glad you talked about not using water too
Thanks Charlie, these vids are giving me the confidence to tackle a very dodgy shower tray! Great tip about rigging up a practise zone first.
Danny Murphy I wish I would have practiced first too! Wasted a whole tube of silicone... hahha
Thank you Charlie. Your corner technique of doing the vertical joints first, and letting them dry overnight
is awesome. It taught me so much.
Then the warning that by spraying the silicone before scraping, will leaved gaps! Brilliant.
As a matter of fact it is so good that I am going to send
this video to my son!
He lost his dad when he was only 15, and now that he is 25, he has started working in the Trades.
Awesome lesson and a beautiful job.
Thanks, so glad you found this usual and really appreciate the comment 👊
great follow up to your previous video Charlie. I also ended up doing the vertical first, waiting a day and then the horizontal to get a perfect finish. I am chuffed to bits when I see so-called professional plumbers using their fingers to smooth off leaving a messy finish.
Thanks Jonathan! Great minds eh? 👍
Purchased the Fugitive kit after watching your video and managed much better results even as a DIY person. Best informative video I have found. Thanks Charlie.
Really glad to hear that Stephen. Great work and thanks for getting in touch.
Charlie, great tip for doing corners as they have always been messy in the past. Homebase do some extra long nozzles for around £1 to £2 which are really useful for getting behind those pesky taps.
good tip just had a nightmare getting round taps last night 🤟
Thank you very much for your tips in re-siliconing corners. It has helped me tremendously in re-siliconing my quater quadrant shower cubicle. First time in my life, as a 45 year old woman to do re-siliconing in my life. Thank you very much for your tips. I feel so happy that it turns out like professionally done. 😁👍 Thanks to you. 😁👍💝.
My late husband would drag his tool full of "silicone" across my crevice and leave a perfect "bead" every time.
What a lover!
hahaha! 😂😂😂😂
Just so happens I’ve got a full tube to spare.
I dont normally comment, but silicone has been a challenge for me. I bought these tools and followed this video. The results are perfect!! Tried many ways from many videos but this has finally made me proud of my work. Thanks you for this!!!
Excellent work. So chuffed you pulled it off and thanks for letting me know. 👌👊
Brilliant video! Well explained step by step, I can see your a perfectionist, well done!👍
Thanks Darren. 🙏
Great vid - thx. It would be good if you can extend this and show how you would go about repairing a section of silicon bead due to mould or damage.
I’ve used so called mastic men on my building projects.
All using a bottle of soapy water and a stick.
After your explanation on the use of soapy water.
I now do all my own mastic work.
Thank you for your patience of experimenting. 👍
Good work. Yes they use soap so they can get out of the job asap, but it's hopeless for the customer as the joint is almost always compromised. 👍
Thanks a lot for the corner tip. But when it comes to the removal of old silicone i have found that nothing beats a multitool from Fein,Dewalt or Bosch just to name a few.
Which blade do you use?
I removed the old sealant and resealed today on 3 sides of the shower base/wall interface and it worked a treat using your tips and Cramer tools
Really glad to hear that Roger. Thanks for letting me know 👍🏻
i always go from outside horizontal lines into the corner, then run the vert. you said to run verts first, but when you do that you leave a small lip on top of the horizontal, when the vert is done last it leaves a continuous flat flow over the horizontal every time.
These really are a game changer! After watching this vid I purchased some cheaper versions off net and can’t believe the results.
Glad to hear it. Good work 👍
Awww I was hoping for a solution that did away with my impatience in having to wait till the next day to do the horizontals. Good video nonetheless.
@ Is there a good solution to doing the verticals and horizontals in the corners at the same time? I've been told by the manufacturer that it is best to do it in one run rather than letting one cure then siliconing on top of it due to a weaker bond.
I have been sealing showers and baths as part of my working day for years and it’s always great to learn something new thanks, as for the tap situation I always take them out of the bath or basin, the time it takes is worth the better finish and if you are a DIYer the time is your own
Fair point Jon!
Great video!
Since I already had the masking tape in place, I first used the tips with masking tape -> disaster!
Without masking tape -> near perfect!
Hi Charlie, thank you so much for this video. I’ve been stressing about how to properly reseal our bath after having a screen replaced and now I’ve done the vertical first to cure over tonight. Tomorrow I’ll finish the job with confidence thanks to your tips. Top gent.
You're welcome. Good luck finishing the job and thanks for getting in touch. 👊
@@CharlieDIYte seems to have done the job 🤞🏻 I realised afterwards that I didn’t fill the bathtub with water like some suggest, does this matter much in your opinion? It’s not a new tub, been in place for at least 7 or so years I reckon.
Having just watched all your silicon videos, I think I’m going to attack my shower! Need to order this shaping kit first though.
You're very welcome - thanks for the comment. Yes the Cramer kit is fantastic. You'll love it 👌
I just bought the profiling set after watching your first video. You should sign up to Amazon's affiliate program and make something from show casing these products. I would never have bought this if it wasnt for your video.
Thanks John. I have actually. Doesn't make me much but every little helps!
My Strange Addiction : Silicone Perfection.
Me too
I’ve never done any of this before but my existing sealant is very poorly done so I decided to remover it and do it myself. This video has been brilliant in showing me how to approach it, what tools to get and tips for a great finish!
Thanks for the comment - really pleased you found it useful. 👊
great video , but very hard to beat the corner of an old credit card , or pre paid meter card ,, as for stripping out old mastic , try sharpening an old filler scraper edge.
total cost nothing.
im going to try the square cut on the filler nozzle though ,that alone is worthy of a thumbs up.
Thanks Suzan. Chuffed you found it useful. 👍
Gordon Ramsey's Bathroom Nightmares...
😂😂😂
Just want to add, I bought a new build house recently, had to extend the bathroom tiling to the roof to install a shower.
Bought the 7 piece and really pleased with the lines it gave both on the tiling & on the shower screen joint to the wall.
It's a brilliant bit of kit isn't it Dave!
wow, if only in real life you had such perfect surfaces to silicone, without tile profiles..and the extra day just for verticals. a finger still beats those gizmos.
Great video, the vertical joint first was the answer , I let is go off overnight and the horizantal joint becomes easier.the tool is great , you don't have much time before it starts to skin off , so if it looks OK leave it .
So I’ve been using the profiling tool the wrong way round the entire time!
I'm afraid so, my friend 🙄
If only the "professionals" who did my bathroom and kitchen knew about this. Beautiful stuff, and thanks for the tips!
You're welcome Ben, thanks for the comment. Unfortunately they tend to be a stubborn bunch!
I cut mine at 45 degrees, use the tool to even it out and after 1 minute I throw it away and use my finger hehehehe
Sounds familiar ???
Oof. Come on RS, you know that's just going to annoy me 🤣
Are we still talking about silicone 😈
I agree with the finger. Two thumbs up my end 😂
I love that you have such high standards. Shame some flooring professionals either don't have the desire to learn such techniques or care to adopt them.
Thanks - I really appreciate that 👍
Thanks Charlie. Just re-hewed the silicone on my bath. Fantastic result with NO masking tape. Just a little tricky round the corners and at the ends but all in all very happy with the result.
Well done Stuart. Really glad to hear that and thanks for letting me know 👍
Followed this video to the letter and now have a re-sealed shower tray which looks great and should hold up for years to come. As a complete novice to siliconing, even I managed to get that *chefs kiss* corner in the thumbnail. The toothed blade tool in the Fugi 7 kit was effective (and satisfying) at ripping out the old silicone after carefully sliding the blade tool behind both sides first. Cheers!
So chuffed to hear that Ben - fantastic work. As you say, it'll last years now - better than any tradesman could have done 👊
God bless UA-cam :D This Cramer kit with attached guides blows my mind :) I've been looking for such a solution for a long, long time. Thanks mate!
You're welcome Marcin 👍
Thanks Charlie. I've been doing a lot of DIY lately and I've got 3 go-to channels on UA-cam that have become absolutely invaluable. Thanks for taking the time to do these videos. You've saved me from ballsing up my tiles! 😁
Curious what your other two are!
Great video! I was struggling a little in the restricted space behind a built in hob...I wanted to use the orange profiling tool with the black "guide/foot" to go neatly over the tiling joints...The easy solution was to cut the orange tool vertically in half...worked a treat!
Good thinking Peter. I did a similar improv in this vid ua-cam.com/video/VlRNNlARX_M/v-deo.html 👊
Good idea....worth buying a cheaper tool to do just that
Great video Charlie. That first bit where you deliberately screwed it up (we've all been there), and then cleaned off and made a lovely joint afterwards was process demonstration at a very high level. Wonderful.
Thanks - that's incredibly kind of you - appreciate you taking the time to comment!!
Superb video, followed your tips and replaced the silicone in my shower with ease, confidence and a perfect finish. Have done this job a few times in the past and each time have had problems using other techniques. All of your tips make doing this job simple especially the corner tip. Look forward to more videos.
Absolutely the best demonstration of application techniques that I have seen !
Thanks John 🙏👍🏻
You saved me tons of silicone for training, thank you very much!
Your video is 100 times better than any others. Funny enough I watched your previous one but glad to have seen this one today thanks!
Thanks Trevor, I really appreciate that, and I'm glad you found this vid as the other one didn't deal properly with corners 👌
Thank you so much for demonstrating how to do the vertical & horizontal joining! I am getting ready to recaulk my trough sink & this will be so helpful.
You're very welcome. Thanks for getting in touch 👊
Thank you for your video. You are the first and only which I truly understood how to use those tools
You're very welcome. Good luck with the siliconing. With all the research you've done, you'll do a great job 👍🏻
I got a plumber to do this but it was awful. Watched this video and did it myself. Much better. Thanks for the tips!
Glad to hear it Frank 👍
Just bought the kit 7 of Amazon, did a great job, wished i'd watched this corner video first mind...
Good work. Yes it's very tricky to do corners if you don't allow the vertical to set first.
I Really appreciate you explaining how to use these profile tools, what a game changer! Bravo on a great video 👏👏
Thanks Justin. Really appreciate that 👊🏻
I think this job is easily overlooked and if done badly, as it so often is, can really ruin the look of a newly fitted bathroom.
That's fantastic news. Great work and thanks so much for letting me know!
as a glazier i have always cut my nozel at 90 DEG as otherwise material does not go into the join. Many painters make the same mistake when cutting at 45 DEG. Great explanation
Just bought the Cramer 40407US Silicone Profiling Kit7. Thank you some much for this information. Been caulking joints wrong for a while LOL.
You're very welcome You won't be disappointed, it's a fantastic bit of kit 👍🏻
Funnily enough I have a video in the pipeline for the angle setting tool, but it will be a short while unfortunately as I've got a few important things to get out of the way first.
why I did not see your videos before. Dear your way is good and polite which gave me confidence to make my work more better .
Glad to hear it John. Thanks for the comment. 👍
4yrs on this video has saved me from messing up siliconing a wetroom I've just done than you sir 👏👏👏👏👏
Really glad to great that. And that siliconing will last years now 👌💥
Hi Charlie, I bought the kit without the cutter after I watched your original video, so I will have to get the knife now to compleat the kit. I have not actually used it on a project yet but I did have a trial go when I received the first kit and thought it was brilliant.
Hi John, good to hear from you. Yes the knives is a useful little addition and I like the look of those Fugenfux tools.
*** Excellent video *** I wish I had seen this before I tried to silicone 2 corners in my kitchen. I struggled a bit but your way seemed a lot easier. Thank you.
I've tried, and tried and tried. Every time an unmitigated disaster. Back to the finger...... Perfect every time.
Were you using the Cramer tool... ?
Learnt so much from watching your videos on siliconing the last few weeks! Thanks a lot for sharing
This is one of the best caulk videos out there. Great job.
Thanks Steve 👍
Great video. I love the way you explain things....it makes so much sense. Silicone jobs are the bane of my life but your way looks so easier and sensible...thanks a million
You're welcome Harry. Thanks for the comment!!
Dude you are awesome.. Really helpful and great for people like myself who find some of these tasks quite tricky. As you say , practice makes perfect!
