Just wanna say, been watching a few years now since some major events in my life... and while I'll understand if you have to stop doing this day, I'm thankful for how you still put effort into this channel
After the 12th anniversary episode, I decided to start from the beginning and watch every episode. I love seeing your comparison shots and it was cool to see here again.
As someone who only owns a TurboGrafx-16 and EverDrive ver. 2.5, I'm still very happy exploring the HuCard library for the time being. Once Krikzz releases that stereo adapter I may consider upgrading, especially if I decide to add some Japanese PC Engine systems to the collection. That, and I'm gonna hold out on more firmware updates and fixes for the few compatibility issues left to iron out.
I was on the fence, but now I think I'll wait for either an update or a new device. Sucks that there's still no one all-in-one solution. Hopefully analog comes through soon!
The ability to play CD games is SO important on the grounds that those early lasers and drive mechanisms are becoming a nightmare to maintain. Krikzz doing the Lord's work here
True, while we finally have a fully functional Atari Jaguar emulator, unfortunately it does not support CD based games simply for the fact the creator of the emulator cannot afford the CD add-on and it’s very rare and very expensive to get one that works.
The game data is just a turbo card and can fit on one too, as long as the music is archived we won't miss anything. Which is why this cd compatibility isn't that impressive overall.
I use to work for Stone Age Gamer and I remember making these was a pain in the butt lol… we used a specific kind of spray paint back then and it was all hand painted. Glad it seems they streamlined things!
One of my favorite things about how Joe makes his videos is how he credits the songs, games and other information in the credits crawl. How many times have you watched a video from someone else's channel and say, what is X at time stamp Y?
I know this is off topic but while everybody mentions that the Japanese Turbo Grafx 16 was called the Super Grafx, I've never actually seen one. That is the coolest looking console I've ever seen!
You're right, it was. I think they're talking about the refreshed Core Grafx lines in 1989 and 1991. Adding the much needed functions of the TurboPad! 😊 I have both. I prefer c1's colors but c2's reliability and sleeker looks are unmatched imo.
Your confusion here is that the PC Engine was released in '87 and was rebranded the Turbo Grafx 16 for North America two years later but that same year, they upgraded the Japanese PC Engine to the PC Engine Super Grafx. Watch the current GameSack video for reference.
Looks like a step in the right direction for original hardware owners. Seems like it would be a great pairing with the relatively cheap base PC Engine or Core Grafx. Save state support is massive! Especially with how rare saving functionality is across the library.
I just got mine last Friday so I am surprized seeing all those review videos online. I guess it came late. Didn't expect to see a Gamesack episode about it but I love it. Flashcarts and ODEs are the future for hardware collectors. I love the Turbo Everdrive Pro. I already had the Super SD System 3 but I needed the new Everdrive for save states.
I've owned a Turbografx 16 for probably almost a decade at this point but I've never actually played it because I've just never found any games for it out and about... I think I should finally get one of these
Hi Joe! I just got back from Japan yesterday. Got so many cool pickups including an Apple Pippin, PC-FX, and front loading Neo Geo CD. Thanks for all the hard work for so many years!
I guess I am happy I forked over the dough for a modded Duo-RX.... Burning the CD-R's was slow-going but ultimately fun. I like loading actual CD's into the tray.
@@tmw3489 because a regular ever drive is sufficient for HuCard games and I get all of the native functions of the system without having to sacrifice anything.
I agree, burning CD-R's and using the old Turbo Everdrive for card games seems like the best route currently. Especially if you already own a Duo with an RGB mod.
@@LezardDesu Yes exactly. It's definitely the more expensive option but it's 100% reliable. I also have a CoreGrafx that I use for HuCard games so I can leave the Arcade Card in my Duo.
Joe, very cool you featured a lot of Dragon's Curse in the video. I think it's one of the best games on the system hands down and a bummer it wasn't included on the mini console. Also great overview of the options available to play non original games for the systems. Goes to show that there are always compromises going that route, even this day and age. That said, I have the original Turbo Grafx Everdrive and love it.
For the price I feel like there are too many issues that require workarounds/mods or just don't work. I'd just put that money towards a Mister personally.
I agree. There should have been the option for the audio solution BEFORE he put it up for sale. As someone who bought one, I kinda feel cheated. I went back to my previous Turbo Everdrive. It's a $220 paperweight right now.
Looking forward to this. Never tried the system or it’s Library before. Hopefully the team that works on the Grafx booster adds the mod in future revisions.

Great review. It was really nice to see your perspective as an SSDS3 and SHDS3 owner. For now I'll be holding back to see how the firmware updates and official expansion board go. The SHDS3 really annoys me with its low audio and I'd love to toss it to the curb, but with its composite colors it seems like it will remain. Maybe one day a perfect solution will come
Joe, thank you so much for all of the incredible content. Sincerely. I've been watching you for what feels like 8 years and never missed an episode. You're my favorite UA-camr right with Johnny Millennium (Happy Console Gamer). It's like homemade chicken soup with rice 😅
Looks very cool!!! BTW - Running SuperGrafx mode in the Terra Onion expansion on a real SuperGrafx with SuperGrafx enabled (turned on rather than off on the SuperGrafx) could cause a hardware fault I think.. The very fact the grahics get messed up there makes me think there could be a bus conflict somewhere.
Sounds like a conflict of the "Grafx's" so to speak. Since the Super HD device has FPGA implementation of the SuperGrafx already it is bumping heads with the actual SuperGrafx additional hardware in the real console. I don't own a Super HD System 3 device but it would seem an easy fix would be to allow disabling of the FPGA SuperGrafx implementation either via a menu option or perhaps an alternate firmware download from the developer that removes SuperGrafx support from the device for real Supergrafx owners. The latter is probably a better and safe option. We do this for video cards (I work for a video card manufacturer) where we create custom VBIOS to remove sound support from a video card for example for clients so that the audio portion does not cause conflict with the client's custom hardware. So, essentially an update flash that removes SGX support from the device turning it into a Super HD System 3 with support for all but SGX. I cannot see a reason why that cannot be done. I own a SuperGrafx (and I love this machine) and I own a Super SD System 3. This is currently the best combo for SuperGrafx owners as the SD version (previous model) does not have the SGX FPGA implementation therefore it works fine in a real SGX with games. But like I said, I think this can easily be fixed in the new HD model should the developer want to do so for us few SGX owners ;) If that option were to exist I would probably upgrade for some of the new features such as HDMI and the reset button. But as the SuperGrafx is my only console and I do not relish in turning off the real SGX hardware via the compatibility switch in order to play the FPGA'd SGX on the device I will not upgrade at this point in time.
That would make (or would have made) a great anniversary episode or like a special (episode 400?), since the first GameSack episode was actually shot on release day of the 3DS. But a DS episode beforehand would make more sense, and is somewhat overdue. I wonder why literally nobody ever talks about palette difference when they do an rgb mod for any console. Composite usually looks much nicer in that regard with much softer color
With the TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine it's particularly egregious because not only is it darker, some colors are vastly different than what we see in composite. The NES has this same issue and fortunately the community has offered up exact or close composite palettes while still enjoying the benefits of RGB.

Not quite ready for prime time IMO. I'll wait for the final version when the audio is all sorted out. It's too expensive to require used mods just to get sound to play.
@8:25 I’m getting CD sound glitches when running this on my RGB bypassed (Genesis 2 8-pin DIN) TG16. I can somewhat hear some sounds if I blast the speakers to full. Hucard sounds work but I also hear strange static. This further proves the fact that the TG16 has a strange mixing circuit that the PCE variants do not have.
There's this anime called Hi-Score Girl that talks about the PC Engine. When it came to netflix they dubbed all the lines as if they were saying 'Turbografx' It was specially worse in the brazilian dub, since we never got the Turbo officially here, so there's no official way to say its name, so they went by 'Turbo Graf Shis' ('Shis' being how the letter X is spelled in portuguese). They should have used PC Engine.

I’m getting CD sound glitches when running this on my RGB bypassed (Genesis 2 8-pin DIN) TG16.
When it came to netflix they dubbed all the lines as if they were saying 'Turbografx'
It was specially worse in the brazilian dub, since we never got the Turbo officially here, so there's no official way to say its name, so they went by 'Turbo Graf Shis' ('Shis' being how the letter X is spelled in portuguese).
They should have used PC Engine.
The PC Engine is just a much cooler looking console as well.
Great video, seen it like 3 times already and every time I see it I wonder where I can get that Bonk tee shirt.
77% seems slightly too loud. Perhaps 76% or 75%.
