Its not about race its about hygiene. Yeah, I totally agree that you can go longer with no washing but not washing your hair for a month might be good for your hair but BAD for your scalp , skin , and health. Lets see.. One day you are in a bus with lots of people, then you are in a line and someone behind you sneezes, then you go home and fry chicken, sounds great , huh? NO. Its just pure hygiene. Your skin can breakout from all this dirt. Also you get dundruff, which is bad, and dont forget that not washing can block the folicle. I know its so cool to keep your hair straight but please dont forget all of that.
@@grsimmer3504 its not bad for your scalp to not wash your hair lmao. it's bad for your scalp to wash your hair daily. shampoos strip your natural oils away, which nourish your scalp.
literally black people do not need to wash their hair everyday. I can go hellas without washing my hair with no smell. Whenever u wash ur hair your stripping it of its natural oils.

That Thing You See At The Corner Of Your Eye I was referring to my hair only. The dirt makes my hair grow now all the gel and stuff but just over time not washing my hair really makes it grow even more
I workout too frequently and sweat in my head a lot . If I straighten in the winter I can get about 2 1/2 weeks if I pull it up in a bun while exercising. Girl I don’t blame you though, I would stretch mine out as long as I could too if I wasn’t into fitness so much.
ChampionAlways I read in a article about how to make your press last when working out ... you can put dry shampoo powder on your scalp to help for the sweating and wrap it before working out but I haven’t tried it
Wrapping or high ponytail with a good absorbing headband works. I'd rather preserve my hair tying it up than trying to be cute like some people and sweating it out.
This method TRULY works no gimmicks! This is how I maintain my hair with a long press even with working out. I switch to bunning towards the end with a scarf to lay the edges. Tea Tree and dry shampoos are a must for keeping the scalp super healthy, fresh and itch free/minimized. No heat damage and protected ends.
I have to be honest, I would reduce my workouts to 3 times a week to reduce reversion but I do not sweat too much on my head. It is worth doing a trial of 5 workouts to see what works for you and not sacrifice your routine. The key is to workout with a scarf around your edges, take it off after and apply a fresh one to keep it smooth. I have done this after a Bikram Hot Yoga and kept a smooth bun. When hair is dry, apply dry shampoo sparingly especially to the middle of your scalp.
Relaxed, straightened, natural....there should be choice. It's not just one way. That's what should be the goal. Not telling people their traitors for relaxing or acting disappointed. It's their hair. They should have freedom to do whatever they want with it whether that's wigs, weaves, relaxed, natural. To insist that every black woman should wear it natural is taking away their freedom to have choices.
Amen! Say that again! I tried natural a few times. It just wasn't for me. (At least not at that those particular times) But my hair is past my shoulders. I do wish is was thicker though.
It’s not about choice. Saying it’s all about choice is denying the pressure around us to have “good hair”. Most black women who wear weaves / wigs / relaxed hair don’t wake up in the morning saying hmmm I feel like wearing my hair straight today. No. Most of them feel their natural kinky / nappy / frizzy hair is not acceptable / feminine / beautiful. We kneed to acknowledge this mentality to be able to grow past it. Besides, if your hair is relaxed, you don’t really have a choice anymore, don’t you.
@@carinecampier Even braids are not "natural". And straightening is temporary. Straightening can make it much longer immediately and opens up other possibilities that don't require braids, which can be fun. Or should we take away all these choices? How do you know what most black women are thinking? Do you know them all or are you projecting? I didn't say it's all about choice, I said choice is a good thing. Taking it away by shaming or pressuring people is not a good thing. If you don't want to do something then don't. But if you do want to, it's your hair and your choice, not anyone else's.
Why is straightening your hair as a black woman considered "not natural" but when people with straight hair curl their hair it's still considered natural 🤦 double standards. As long as it's connected to your scalp it should be considered as your real hair.
It’s easier to wrap your hair starting from the crown and then working your way around and down. It’s hard to “explain” how to wrap hair, so the way you explained it was probably really helpful to those still learning
Black people dont have to wash their hair every two seconds anyway. I dont understand Black folks who think we have to do that..Anyone who cant get their hair to grow as long as yours def should have no comment. No offense to them...

I'm so grateful for this video!!! I finally came around to straightening my hair last month, remembered this video I watched months ago, followed the advises and my hair stayed straight for 5 weeks while it usually starts to frizz out after one week. It looked amazing even during the last few days. I had to wash it because of the itchiness.
Girl thank you! After over a year of going natural, my curls started becoming SUPER kinky and I got SO many knots! So, I am going back to straightening to my hair to look more cute and to relax my curls a little! This was really helpful!! Thanks!
Wow. Great vid. Thanks for brushing the haters off. Lol. Anyways, thanks also for the comment about heat. Plp seem to think heat is the only thing that damages hair, which isn't true. As long as heat isn't being exesively used, it's totally fine. You totally rocked this month straight look. I loved it. Your so great and beautiful. This was another great vid as always.
Hi NaturalNeiicey, love your channel btw. It is wonderful to see a once a month wash. I am quite a bit older than you and your watching audience, but, I the 70's, when the "perm" was not as popular, it was normal to wash your hair once a month because of our lack of moisture. As well as the lack of moisturizing products. But no one seems to remember that. Nice to see you using this as an option.
I recommend wrapping from the middle or crown of your head and keeping your hand flat on your head as you wrap it. for longer hair, use long bobby pins to keep it from falling. once you have your scarf on, you can either remove the bobby pins or leave them in until the morning.
I LOVE WATCHING YOU. BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT PLAYING AROUND OR SINGING.YOU'RE VERY DETAILING AND EXPLAIN WHY YOU'RE DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING. THANK YOU. KEEP UP THE EXCELLENT WORK.

had to come here for support because these girls in my class were talking about how I have had my hair straight for a month and I need to wash it. They ask me when I'm gonna wash it like mind your business as long as it is moistured and it doesn't smell I'm fine
Yesss thank you for this video, I actually just straightened my hair for the first time since 2016 & I’m definitely trying to make it last all month this was very helpful. And for the people saying eww she didn’t wash her hair in month, grow up because clearly you are doing something right when your hair is long & healthy & you don’t use Weave. Im not that girl who washes her hair every two weeks as it is because it’s so much work & takes all day. I never dry my hair either, I just braid it while wet. I use (Camilla rose Products, deep conditioners, hair mask, Argan oil etc.) My friends would think I’m crazy but I don’t care plus I never show my hair I keep it covered. But now after straightening my hair 😱honest to God I had no idea my hair is at butt.... my point is the less you do to your hair the more it grows
Yay last time I clicked on this video it said the video could not be loaded....that’s right tell them to mind their business no one can tell you how often to wash your hair it looks good! So very pretty
You should do a hair growth journey video. Answering how you grew your hair, did you take supplements, morning and night routines, how often you trim, and what helped you product wise! Your hair is gorgeous!
I got the Cantu dry shampoo from watching this video, and omg it smells so good. And it works wonders! Thank you so much for recommending that lifesaving product!
miniimufin LML no need to cry 4c is GORGEOUS you can have the same results you just need to keep the patience and keep practicing and mositure protein balance
I definitely want to see a curly to straight video! I’m almost positive your curls will come back like they never left😄 this video came at the right time because I just finished straightening mine😊 Thanks for sharing and love all of your videos💕
Here’s how to wrap your hair so you don’t get the damage and sore spot (it also allows you to part your hair how you want, not just from the side): Brush your hair back and put on a headband. Wrap your hair around the area on your head that the headband isn’t covering. Quickly remove the headband and put on your scarf. Done!
Girl power to you I only lasted 17 Days I think I’m addicted to washing my hair I was having withdrawals lol I used 4 flexi rods because I hate wrapping. Also grape seed oil is the truth!!!
IAMJAS me too. I don't like wrapping my hair because I don't like the fact that one side of my hair doesn't lay as flat because it's forced to go in the wrong direction. Also wrapping spreads your hair oils down your shaft and makes your hair weighed down faster. I just put flexirods in it.
The white particles on your scalp is flaky scalp and it happens when your scalp is dry, putting oil on your scalp regularly can prevent that peppermint oil, argan oil, grapeseed oil are all great oils
I hate wrapping my hair, I.hate.it lol, if never turns out right, it always gets dents and my hair always ends up frizzing up after a shower ruining my flat iron even having it wrapped up and a shower cap on it, it's so annoying and why I don't like wearing my hair straight
i hate wrapping my hair too - my head always feels a little sore on the side/direction it's wrapped in the next day. plus, wraps put stress on which direction you wrap in. the effects of wrapped hair are great - i just don't see how people deal with the pressure/soreness. and if you wrap your hair in the same direction every time you can cause damage and baldness on that side of the head. so instead of wrapping i usually twist my hair into a medium tight bun and put a band around it then I can wrap a scarf around my head. results are great the next day for keeping hair fairly stretched and straight. and my hair is waist length.
I'm really late to view this video 😭 but I have a really high powered shower head and it's the best/worst thing ever but from Day 1 of getting my 4c hair silk pressed I used 4 different items to keep water away from my hair. I use 2 of the really cheap shower caps you, a shopping bag tied over that and then my more expensive shower cap. Water and steam have yet to get through all that so I'd recommend trying it over your wrapped hair next time you flatiron.
You use the Revlon blow dry brush in between the one month that you have your hair straight. So you basically blow dry your hair in between to keep it straight.
OMG , love your videos ! when I get my hair straightened I wear it like that for a month as well and I have the same dry shampoo ! It really works wonders !
I damaged my long hair by straightening it, but girl. Now knowing the products to use and seeing you use familiar techniques. Im excited to try it again. Thanks for the video!!!
It still looks 'good you wouldn't even know you had it for a month until you said it. I'm scared to straighten my hair I haven't straighten it since I did the big chop. This video would helpful if I even straighten it .
I found out about the paddle brush hair dryer a few months back and couldn't get it quick enough. I love love and if I go to the salon to get blowout/silk press, I bring along for my beautician to use. Of course I asked if she minded beforehand. She loved it. Game Changer!!
I would recommend parting your hair down the middle and then putting 2 Bantu knots at the top of your head and wrap your edges for a heatless curly look that is bouncy and lasts longer! This is what I do to maintain my "straight" hair! I also water only wash my hair which i decided to start doing once a week and no later than a week and a half to keep my hair from getting itchy! And I still put a natural oil in my hair after washing it to keep it moisturized and my hair be looking like im mixed!
Amazing😍😍😍!! Mine would never last that long 🙁🙁I HATE it so bad that you and some of the other naturals feel you have to "explain" or "justify " the choices you make to the HATERS. It's YOUR HAIR luv and it's BEAUTIFUL, HEALTHY and LONG 💖💖💖. You don't owe ANYONE an explanation!! It's more than obvious that you know how to care for your hair. The proof is flowing from your scalp. So, the 35 (so far) HATERS that disliked this video can have several seats. She's on her way to 500,000 - now HATE on that!!
My grandma uses a hard brush and wraps a wig cap around the bristles then brushes at her roots to get the dandruff out. You should try it out whenever you straighten your hair again.
Hi, I wanted to let everyone know this method works. I have done it twice and i am was so surprised how will it work. I let my hair be straight for one month. The one difference i do is wrap my hair everyday. I just wrap it a different direction each day.
Girl get you some selsun blue (green/moisturizing formula). I straighten my natural hair and it lasts a month. Since using this I have no dandruff and no itching the entire time. I dilute it sometimes by mixing with water in a color applicator bottle so it’s less drying and it’s still effective!
Okay. Serious question. When I straighten my hair it stays straight for a while until I go to a frat party, I swear my hair will be pin straight when I walk in and completely reverted and a hot mess once I leave. That's my only issue
One thing I definitely came to realize is that I was washing my hair too often! I have very thick hair and when I think back to childhood, my fam definitely was NOT washing my hair every week! As a child, in 8 years, my hair was below mid-back! (No relaxers or perms) I’ve been washing waaaay less often now and I have seen so much more length retention over the last six months or so! ❤ Thanks for the video!

Just wanna let you know how much I appreciate seeing a video of someone with long hair wrapping their hair. I used to think it was impossible. Hope that one day I can actually wrap my hair as well as you do
this was such a good video the way you filmed and certain days and kept track of what day you were on just shows you care thanks for sharing
My hair starts itching and smelling after 3-4 days. I’ve gone 2 weeks without washing. Wouldn’t recommend it.
Cool (not hot!) showers helps.
this is why she said dry shampoo n tea tree works to keep it fresh...it works
Love this video!!love you too girl😍 straighten my hair 24th Dec and haven't washed yet lol planing to go another 4 weeks before I wash. Who wants to see a video on how I maintain it??
Alimah's World me🙋🏾♀️
Me
I've been loving this straight hair look on you! Your facial features really stand out with straight hair.
yess omg I can keep my 4c hair straight for a whole month it is perfect! good flat iron, oils... works like magic!
Melle Mella how often do you re-straighten or touch it up?
Latisha Lobban I don't touch up after I straighten it! I put my hair in bantu knots most of the time and then unravel them for a wavy look.
Melle Mella What flat iron do you use?
Elle W I use the Nano Titanium flat iron by BabylissPRO
Melle Mella Ahhh, OK! I heard that's an awesome one to use! Do you use the ultra thin one?
I actually wash my hair once a month. It makes my hair grow when I don't touch it as much. Great video shaniece! Very Very helpful...i only straighten my hair once a year. But when the time comes I will be trying your tips...Seeing the maintenance of your hair I would have never guessed it's been a month(if I didn't know)
Can't wait for your next video
Xoxotee 🤗😙
How you protect it from reverting while showering?
had to come here for support because these girls in my class were talking about how I have had my hair straight for a month and I need to wash it.
The versatility of black hair is absolutely amazing
Day 29 for you is day 3 for me lol but I’m a sweater 😂 so that sucks for me but this is still good advice
You should do a hair growth journey video. Answering how you grew your hair, did you take supplements, morning and night routines, how often you trim, and what helped you product wise! Your hair is gorgeous!
The quality is much better. I would love to see a straight to curly hair vid please.😍😍
I got the Cantu dry shampoo from watching this video, and omg it smells so good. And it works wonders! Thank you so much for recommending that lifesaving product!
You wrapped your hair without pins😳, now that's impressive…lol👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Crys in 4c😂
miniimufin LML no need to cry 4c is GORGEOUS you can have the same results you just need to keep the patience and keep practicing and mositure protein balance
😩😂😂😂
I straightened mine just yesterday and I’m back to 4b/c 🤦🏾♀️
Ditto
Hahahahaaaa!!!!
I definitely want to see a curly to straight video! I’m almost positive your curls will come back like they never left😄 this video came at the right time because I just finished straightening mine😊 Thanks for sharing and love all of your videos💕
You are brave, my scald starts to actually hurt after more than a week. So props to you girl. 🙌🏾
Done!
When you did the wand curls it looked like you had a whole sew-in; it looked so gorgeous😍😍
Thanks for reminding us how bomb your hair is!😍😍
1 month 😳, I can barely make it a week although I aim for 2 weeks before my hair gets oily and starts to smell old 😩😩
Mimi Iman same.
Μy hair needs a day. Just 24 hours to smell like an animal died on my head
The white particles on your scalp is flaky scalp and it happens when your scalp is dry, putting oil on your scalp regularly can prevent that peppermint oil, argan oil, grapeseed oil are all great oils
Her hair is absolutely flawless😍😍😍 Beautiful woman!!!😍😍😍
I take baths during the time that my hair is pressed. The steam from taking a shower, puffs up my hair, so I do baths.
My secret silk scarf beanie shower cap
practice makes perfect don't give up.
You use the Revlon blow dry brush in between the one month that you have your hair straight. So you basically blow dry your hair in between to keep it straight.
I noticed you have a mic clipped to your shirt? any chance you spill the tea on what kind of mic it is (-: currently looking for a hq mic
kxdsheldy it’s the rode lav mic
thanks love
Love the realness in this video! Showing the dandruff and how you deal with it is sooooo helpful! Thank you!!!❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
OMG , love your videos ! when I get my hair straightened I wear it like that for a month as well and I have the same dry shampoo ! It really works wonders !
Anybody else watching this in 2021!! It never gets old.
Don’t worry what other people think - don’t even mention them - do what you want with your hair
I damaged my long hair by straightening it, but girl. Now knowing the products to use and seeing you use familiar techniques. Im excited to try it again. Thanks for the video!!!
OMG! Wand curls are the greatest!
Your one of the matriarchs of natural hair I’ve been watching your videos for so long now !!
It still looks 'good you wouldn't even know you had it for a month until you said it. I'm scared to straighten my hair I haven't straighten it since I did the big chop. This video would helpful if I even straighten it .
I didn't even know that you had a second channel. I've been subscribed to "Being Niecy" This whole time and yet have another gem channel!
I know I’m not the only one who thought about the group Day 26 when she said its day 26 of having straight hair 😂😂😂😂
Sunflower Kiera nope ur not 😂
Lol same!
Sunflower Kiera started singing songs in my head lol
Sunflower Kiera I love that someone actually commented about that
I found out about the paddle brush hair dryer a few months back and couldn't get it quick enough. I love love and if I go to the salon to get blowout/silk press, I bring along for my beautician to use. Of course I asked if she minded beforehand. She loved it.
Game Changer!!
“some wet and wavy type ish” yessssss hunny 😂😍😍
Omg your hair looks gorgeous. You look amazing. Even straight hair, you can rock.
It’s finally up!! UA-cam’s trynna play me by not notifying me, but it’s cool 🙄 You look so good. I gotta go get this jacket!
And I still put a natural oil in my hair after washing it to keep it moisturized and my hair be looking like im mixed!
is the paddle brush on as your wrapping your hair?
TheUptownGrrl I have the same question!
TheUptownGrrl that's what I was wondering lol
TheUptownGrrl the paddle brush is off I just didn’t have a regular paddle brush. And I like how it smooths my hair
Girl rock that hair till you feel the need for change. So pretty girl
I went to the salon and got my hair done and left it like that for 2 months and my hair grew sm so I'm thinking of trying that again
Your hair is so full and voluminous! Love it!!!
My hair won't stay straight for 24 hours let alone a whole month! LMAO!!!! Maybe this will work for me one day!!!! Thanks for sharing Shanice! :)
This was the BEST video I've seen about maintaining a press for natural hair. I NEEDED this. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I wanna see how you go straight to curly
yes to the video seeing your hair revert back! I love the wand curls.
Love the Cantu dry shampoo and I definitely need that brush ASAP!
Girl you just gave me all kinds of life with those wand curls at the end.... beautiful 😢😢 just beautiful.... I love natural hair...
Yaaaas sis!!!!! 26?? Hair looking like day 3 😍
Hi,
I wanted to let everyone know this method works. I have done it twice and i am was so surprised how will it work. I let my hair be straight for one month. The one difference i do is wrap my hair everyday. I just wrap it a different direction each day.
Omg your teeth look so good already!
Yessssssssssssssssss please do a revent to curly hair please and show us how you wet your hair in the shower 😊❤❤❤❤
