step one...drop game...step 2...enjoy life. This game wasn't as fun as I hoped it would be. and I still hate the damage in this game.
Skill issue
Imagine being so lacking that one needs to air their opinions on a game they don't even play to somebody that actually wants to play it
the level of hate is crazy
Gotta admit the game is nowhere near as hype as the old games. And its because of a lack of depth. I know im beating a dead horse but man ppl knew immediately and it holds up after time the game is just too simple. It makes tourneys so boring when u just know whos gonna be in GF and Winners simply because the game lacks the depth to overcome the top tiers resulting it basically zero upsets and zero hype moments.
@@maxrusty3596 are you ever gonna stop being wrong? We've already had tier upsets.
For those who are new I also wanna stress to learn at your own pace. Dont feel rushed to learn 50% red RC link combos if you havent been able to land any normal shorter ones in game. Make sure to get comfortable just playing the game, moving around, and like LK said, cleaning up your inputs. And a huge tip: focus on your opponent. Once you know how your character moves and what your buttons/specials do, your goal should be to keep your focus on your opponent while your character does what you want them to do in your periphery. This means you are in control of your character, and will make you a much better player.
Good luck and have fun!
If you arent going to learn all that RC/Combo/Movement/etc shit u will always get ur ass beaten. This game lacks of visible framedata numbers, hit and hurtboxes. You cant learn what you cant understand. And the answer is always: go and watch sajam or go and check this shit on dustloop. This is not how game should work and not how newbie can learn something. How that focus on the opponent would help you with understanding the game concepts? U can say go and try that in-game trials with hard combos for characters who you never gonna use(i mean that Sol combo with RC cancel(damn why I should learn that shit for Sol, why devs cant add combos for my char like they did it for other trials)). There are tons of players who dropped the game just because they cant play it. I think its not a skill issue or scrub quotes. People just dont have any chances to learn the game in a proper way.
@@kaempfer_desu I think Strive just tries to separate the difficult of making combos (micro) with the difficult of the actual game mechanics, and, of curse, neutral (macro). So you can still win without mastering longer combos. That of course, goes against many players game style, who just find more enjoyable the part of doing crazy and hard combos. But it just changes the micro for a "grounded footsies game" full of decisions you have to do to break neutral (and still giving a lot of relevance to combos). I don't want to debate if that change was good or bad to the game, just wanted to give my opinion :p
@@kaempfer_desu bru thats how it always was for tekken and yet i see ppl starting the game very often
Wow! I feel like this video is made just for me! Lol I downloaded GG Strive yesterday on game pass. It’s pretty cool so far!
Welcome to the game it's a blast. We're waiting for you up in celestial.
That's the algorithm and Google for you. Always listening
Good tips in comments already. If I could add one, learn to be comfortable blocking when your health drops lower than your opponent's. I've noticed that whether they're floor 5 or floor 10, people get impatient or nervous as soon as they're at a deficit. The fastest way to lose here is getting counterhit. Mashing out of an opponent's blockstring can work, but its going to get you killed more often than not. Longstory long, please learn to stay patient regardless of the health deficit, you can still make a comeback.
this is great advice. realizing this took me to a whole new level of perception in fighting games in general. no need to rush! there's like 90 seconds on the clock!
@@trashy_fgcRight, it might help in some FGs more than others but the fact stands. And the times where I still lose, at least I know I stuck to my gameplan.
I'm already about 40 hours in game and I love it so much. My main problem for now is sloppy inputs, but I'm trying to get out from it. Even when I lose I'm still learning, like investigating this matchup I lost, or if I play mirror matches I instantly learn some new combos and new ways to get out from some situations for my character. This is my very first fighting game experience and I know that'll be a long adventure, but I like it a lot. Best advice is to not give up even if it feels that you're not improving and just enjoy small wins from matches: "Did I countered that air hit? Did I made my learned combo work in this round? Or did I cornered my opponent?" - these small steps always encourage me to continue playing and still have fun.
The most frustrating part right now is the amount of times I got kicked out of the servers or couldn't match other players in the lobby because of "failed to connecting"
As if the servers weren't already bad, they messed up the servers even more with the Xbox release. I've seen a lobby go from 30 players to 3 as a result of the game kicking everyone out (including myself). I truly hope the developers fix this problem both for your sake and mine.
That's been a problem since the betas, sadly (though it was worse back then). Still don't get why it hasn't yet been fully fixed.
I could be wrong but the exploit of people booting out other people might be still in the game
The big advice I’d give new players on controller especially is USE THE D PAD. You can’t precisely control the stick with your thumb and even if you could it’s sooo much harder
Before i switched to an arcade stick i used the analogue stick. It's fine. I could do everything i needed to do and it really wasn't that difficult. Always go with what you're comfortable with. Even if it's technically worse, the difference is so small it really doesn't matter.
@@DualClassic64 same. Pad gives me mad blisters
@@DualClassic64 What this guy said. Use what works best for you.
Personally, when I started in the genre back in 2010, I found I had a small issue to overcome on both options: on a d-pad I found special moves, especially those longer than a quarter-circle, harder to do, while on the analog stick I found dashing harder to do. Ultimately I decided it was easier to get better at dashing with the analog stick than specials on the d-pad, so I stuck with that, and it indeed didn't take long to overcome that issue. I still use it today, and now I'm good enough to make Heaven in Strive.
At the end of the day, any controller option available to you will work, so just use what feels best for you.
I'm a fellow analog stick enjoyer and I'm doing fine (for the most part). The worst that could happen is maybe accidentally making your character jump *occasionally* but it's not as bad of a choice as FGC players make it out to be.
doesn’t slash play on analog stick
Very small feedback: Since the video is destined for new players, I feel like notations like "5K" or "-3" should be explained quickly (even by simply showing the explanation on the screen). Otherwise it's good advice!
Thnaks for the tips, man!
I'll have to check the RC video because in all my matches, it's something I rarely use. I know I'll need it in the highest floors. I'm winning the majority of my matches mostly because it seems my opponents doesn't known to to use it as well.
Thanks for this. I'm new not just to Guilty gear but to FGs as a genre. Coming mainly from MOBAs it's been easy to clean up my inputs (as MOBAs tend to punish mashing) but what I am heavily struggling with is quarter-circle specials (214,214). For some reason I can't consistently do that quick quarter circle movement in that specific direction (I can do 236,236 more easily). Idk if I have a stiff thumb or what but any tips are appreciated
Just practice. One of my warmup routines is going into training as player 2 and just keep doing a character's 236s which, on that side, would be a 214, over and over again.
Oh sweet, it dropped?!?!
Finally I can install it on the XBSX and see if my son wants to play. He's only 6 tho so it might be tough ;-)
Playing the game and loving it so far, but it feels like Arcsys just wasn't ready for the release. Basically nothing in their social media, I only knew it was coming out because I happened to eyeball the store and saw the pre-order. That mixed with the network issues and I'm going to say accidentally overpriced season passes really just confuses me. Still, loving what I've gotten to play so far and hope things improve from there!
Yeah, I hope they actually treat the Xbros well. I remember the DBFZ Xbox release was also terrible for a while 😭
Oh I'm not the only one having network issues. That's good to know
@@yugimumoto1 yeah it’s been pretty iffy, I had the same thought when I first started up lol
I'm not really a new ggst player at this point(150-ish hours), still a very low skill scrubby masher though. Most of the time I just lab, arcade, and vs CPU. When I do online I prefer quick matches(when it connects!) instead of tower or park. It is less stressful and faster than manually finding opponents in the lobby. At least it seems that way since you just vs CPU while queued.
I just got the game and have been getting pummeled into the ground with giovanna, mostly because I just keep mashing, but I'll get there eventually
i say that while playing against cpu is not replacement real people.
survival mode is a good quick way to practice and get used to your character
Hey great video. Thanks . I'm new to GG and like this game a lot. Goldlewis is cool. I'm old and have no stick. But still enjoy the game and want to learn it. Greetings from Germany
Strong character, though at this point in the game's lifespan we could say that about most of them. Go to "Goldlewis Dustloop" to get thorough information about any character. Hope you stick with game.
@@jscriber100 thanks
Thanks LK, Im finally making the jump into starting my journey and wanted to say that your content really helps us newbies❤.
I have a very late tip, but i downloaded the game a few days ago and was shocked, that there is no frame data native in the game (i come from tekken , sf) . You can google strive frame data mid, its updated to slayer patch and works like the SF one. So really good. if you like the game and want to get legit decent, you are not getting around frame data. One frame makes the difference between punishable and safe.
Nice I just started playing yesterday and stumbled upon this video. I'm just trying to finish all the missions first and cleaning up my inputs and trying to rid myself of hopeless mashing before actually jumping into online games. Don't have any friends to play and practice with tho...
Welcome xbros!
It came out on xbox and I have been nothing but busting ever since. It is my religion now and I can't stop.
Here's a tip don't play Milia rage unless you plan to get really good with her 😭 the amount of bs you gotta go through to win is insane but it feels so good when you do win in my opinion
If you a new player in the comments welcome!! GGST is hella fun and if you put in the same amount of time as a typical RPG (40 hours) you'll find that you'll have come a really long way in what feels like a short amount of time.
That being said, the biggest take away I'd say is using those RC's. Meter usage is a sign of an experienced player vs someone just hitting buttons. If all you can do with your meter is mash wake-up super then your opponent will always be ready for you once you have 50 meter. But if you're constantly mixing it up then it makes you that much more dangerous!
LK went over it briefly, but using that purple RC to cancel moves to make them safe is almost always a better use of meter than trying to mash out a super. When I teach my friends how to get better, I always want to keep pestering them about using RC, but it becomes information overload. So hopefully you new players will be better students than my friends and learn to RC earlier haha
The biggest tip that people forget is see if strive is for you, maybe it’s not good thing they have other gg games and it’s not game over if you can’t get the basics
Fun fact: The very first Guilty Gear was released on PlayStation and was never ported to arcades.
I love playing fighting games, but I have an Xbox. So I haven't been able to play many of the coolest fighting out there. My sister has a ps4, but she doesn't let me use it all that much. (She does let me use it a lot, but I want to play fighting games everyday all day for the most part) I was so happy with ggs came to Xbox! Now I'm waiting for Skullgirls. Grandblue too!!!
Skull girls is on xbox
2nd Encore isn't
@@patrickcoyle5633 2nd encore isn't yet. It's supposed to come out sometime 2023 tho
4:21 bro, how am I supposed to do that with xbox d-pad AAAHHHHHHGGGGGGGGGGG
Being happy that you are not playing on ps4 dpad?
Thank you.. Just started on Xbox
Danke für die Tipps hat mir sehr geholfen🎉 grüße aus Österreich
Just started playing today and as a Tekken player I have absolutely no idea what is happening at all
There are too many colors on screen and my primate Eddy brain is going haywire LMAO
@@MrMagnum_ ummm…… good for you???
Sorry I really don’t get your comment
Been playing a year, so I'm not new. But am not great (9th fl- former 10th), so I watched it. Good tips.
Maybe I should do more Tower. I'm usually in Park playing vs people around my level. Nice vid.
Just bought the game and did my first online matches yesterday, got my ass beaten by a Baiken who was constantly rushing me with air dash and i didn't know my options to stop it. I won some rounds at least, im happy about that.
One thing i really don't understand is the timing after a red RC, i can link some small combos but when i do RC i can't link anything after it, the timming is very weird and i end missing or just go past it from below.
I have zero background in 2d games so it will be a difficult journey, but i have a lot of time till tekken 8.
This is for sure me lol. Appreciate ya broski
hey my dude. I have no idea what you're talking about most of the time. I'm a total fighting game noob and picked this up on a whim via gamepass. My thumb hurts and I'm getting my ass handed by arcade mode. I am far below the level of whatever it is you're talking about. Like: I'm not gonna start getting you into dota by telling you how sometimes a semi pull can fuck up lane equilibrium depending on enemy's pos4's ability to nuke small camp. I've been digging through some other stuff of yours tho and I really like your style so pretty pretty pls, make a comprehensive guide for dummies.
Unfortunately like a lot of competitive games there's a huge amount of knowledge and techniques that really can't be covered in a single video unless its like an hour. Dustloop is the de facto Guilty Gear wiki and there's Infil's Fighting Game Glossary. Sajam's videos are a great resource too. Honestly, step 1 if you're really new is learning special inputs and easy combos from the most common starters. I'd recommend keyboard to play on if you are used to PC games because for me special inputs were too inconsistent on controller or arcade stick.
Imagine using a regular dash or an air dash
I just started the game 2 days ago and I’m on lvl 27 but I’m still trying to figure out how to do the special on may
First time playing GG period. I chose Giovanna as my first character where does she rank in ease of use? I'm getting destroyed by everyone I play😂
she is a good fighter! dont worry about the losing, it always happens while figuring stuff out. reiterating what lk said, u can play around in training mode, setting the dummy to block or not block a certain way, using certain moves on block/recovery.. but just starting out u try out some bread n butter combos, then once ur able to do some try it vs an opponent! the online is kinda borked rn(so matches take awhile to begin) but i think theyll fix it soon
Where's the link to Roman Cancel video?
is this game still being played a lot and is it worth it if i buy it? + if i buy it, should i get it with the DLCs?
Thank god I need help. Perfect timing lol
I’m thinking of buying this game. Id honestly be so brand new. Not sure if it’s worth it
Game worth it guys? Since SF6 is not too far off should i just wait??
Both have huge playerbases and a strong community. If you're on a tight budget, waiting is the best plan. If not, GG is a great choice whether its your first FG or you're an FG veteran.
Edit: GG dlc is expensive, but theres a lot of detail put into each char that its worth it. Sometimes season passes go on sale.
What are the typical combo launchers ? for example in tekken a launcher would typically be df2
It depends per character but usually sweeps (2D) put characters airborne and are special cancellable. But a universal combo "launcher" would just be Red Roman Cancel, which costs 1 bar of meter
@@NemSumeragi appreciate it man
the most universal one is the sweep. ie: down+D.
then most characters have HS moves that launches in some way. some that only does it on counter hits
Welcome to the mayhem x-box warriors. Any Australian guys coming from gamepass? I'm up for some games for any willing.
I tried the old gg button mapping a while ago with the dash mapped to circle but I find it awful to dash rc with this. So I just kept the base controller and mapped dash to R2 and rc to L1.
How do you dash rc without putting your hand in a weird position to reach 3 buttons and dash at the same time with your button layout?
There is no old GG button mapping for console controllers. The button layout that is shown in the video is for an arcade stick, so copying that layout is not the best thing to do.
Ultimately button layouts come down to comfort, so use whatever layout you find comfortable and accessible.
I recommend mapping the rc button instead of trying to RC with three presses.
You can plink the Dash button and RC button for a very easy drift
When i play on pad I have my dash to the right trigger, and RC to the left, that way to dash RC i just have to press R2 and L2 almost at the same time (pressing r2 first tho) and its super easy and consistent.
@@NemSumeragi I'm using an arcade stick and I played older GG's (casually) using the older button layout. Right now I can't find a layout that's comfortable and uses the the dash macro. From what I heard from the players, the difference should be night and day. But right now, dashing normally seems at least just as usefull.
@@HellecticMojo I rest my hands on the attack buttons when I play any fighting games on my arcade stick. But if I map dash and RC on R2 and L1, I have to move my hand all the way to the right or use my two last fingers to try to reach both of them. All of this when I could just use my left hand that's not moving at all.
How do I get Matches online in the game? Just got it for Xbox
HEY FRIENDS where is the bigger player base steam or xobox/PlayStation. or does it matter? is all crossplay?
it's crossplay
Any ky guides for the games current state for a complete beginner?
Dustloop
@@guutenks2498 dust loop?
Dustloop wiki, it has quite a lot of stuff about the game on it. It’s the general fighting game wiki.
@@UmiTheSea-ix8jz thank you, I need something through video to properly get it I think
1) play millie
2) cry
3) uninstall
4) reinstall
5) repeat
is there a way to get the game at a cheaper price on ps4?
Wait for sales sadly. It does get discounted very often but you just have to be patient, if you can there's usual good deals to get the game, Season Pass 1 and 2 for about $60 which is much better than the $80 they offer for it
can someone inform me whether the servers are still active? thinking about buying this for ps5
Yes they are. With addition of cross play there people to play with
But I have to mention that connecting to butter is a problem
is it too late to get this game now...never played gg
This was for the gamepass release right 😂
I want to play potemkin so bad but the whole kara crap on ps5 pad is wildly inconsistent. Feels pretty awful.
Keep at it, even the top players make mistakes and it's more often than you'd assume. You can make it
Have you tried remapping K to a shoulder button? Might make it easier.
@@5partanzm1lk Tried that and it works great for pot buster!! much more consistent now. still can't do a kara garuda at all thou. I'm going to look up some guides
I feel like "know your combos" is going too fast when telling new players how to enjoy a fighting game. Find what you think is fun first, mess around and such. Binging labbing from the start can sour any play session.
I'm just sick of playing against no life tryhards
baiken is way too overly sexualized otherwise i wouldve loved to play her... sad how female characters are treated
I see nothing wrong with that
My advice for new players: play Arcade Mode, and don’t bother playing online until you can solo the Arcade boss. The Arcade boss is so unfair that it forces you to get more comfortable with core mechanics like Throws and Faultless Defense. By the time you do that, you’ll be ready for Floor 5 or higher.
This is the worst advice ever.
All boss Nago teaches you is AI exploit.
DO NOT TAKE THIS ADVICE.
As someone who started to play fighting games online with Strive (back when the game dropped), I can tell you that I've never touched Arcade mode in my life and I currently reside on Floor 10.
Not the best advice, to be honest with you. People will just learn to cheese through the boss and will develop nasty habits in their play from that.
I'd say a healthy mix of everything for some better advice. Arcade Mode is just fun in general but try every mode out there. Even for just a round or two.
Although the best advice I can give is to strive (haha funni pun) to get better at the game. Always remember that just by playing the game for one minute already makes you a better player than you were a minute ago.
this game feels so janky. and why are there no combo strings? it leads to just more spam
There are no strings due to the fact that this is using a gatling combo system for its combos, rather than any pre-canned strings. There are also links in the game but the main way to combo would be to cancel normals into other normals or into specials. There are certain normals that dont tend to gatling into other due to the new gatling system in this version of the game, but generally speaking you can gatling Slashes into Heavy Slashes, and 2K into 2D etc. While you can definitly look online at what gatlings your character can do, this is not nessesary as the system is pretty streamlined for all characters, and you should be able to pick up what button cancels into what pretty quickly due to playing the game. As for your comment about spam, im unsure what exactly you are refering to here, so if you could give me an example of what you mean I can try my best to help.
As someone who used to play mk11, you get a feel for gatlings after a while. Just gotta figure out what moves link into what
@@ahadkhan3486 didn't understand what "cancels" meant for the longest time. Cancelling an attack in my head means you stop the attack before the attack even connects. But you don't cancel the attack, even though it is called "cancel". Confusing
