  • A trip to Kuala Lumpur would not be complete without a trip to this iconic Hindu temple located in Gombak, Selangor.
The limestone caves are said to be 400 million years old and is guarded by the 43m high gold statue of Lord Muragan. Batu Caves consists of a number of different caves and if you brave the 272 steps you will find yourself at the entrance of the Cathedral cave with ceilings 100m high. This was the main cave we were able to visit on our trip.
Half way up the stairs lies another cave, gated and unfortunately closed on this occasion. We believe it to be accessible with a tour guide and houses insects and rare spiders that can be dated back 100 million years.
At the base of the hill are 2 additional caves called the Cave Villa which are full of Hindu statues and paintings and to the very far left of the caves is the Ramayana Cave, colourful and vibrant with its historic depiction of Ramayana - Prince Rama’s quest to save his wife from the Ravana, with the help of an army of monkeys.
A couple of tips - we realised later that by wandering thru at our own leisure, we did miss out on seeing all the caves. If we go back, we would be keen to do a tour to get more of an understanding and appreciation. Don’t forget to watch out for the monkeys!
    You seem nice! 🙂

    About us:
We are Mike and Serina. We love travel, adventure and fitness. One of our most memorable adventures was climbing #MtKinabalu in Sabah, Malaysia. Whilst there are travel restrictions in place, we have decided to take our #hiking adventures local, exploring what Perth and Western Australia have to offer. Join us as we go for weekly hikes and share our adventures.
For those of you that have been following us for awhile, you will know that Serina was born in #Malaysia and we both love spending time there, visiting friends and family and immersing ourselves in the culture. We hope to go back there as soon as we can, so Mike has been spending time learning how to speak Bahasa Melayu.
    Terimah Kasih, jumpa lagi!
