The unpredictability with original MK1’s Reptile having both Scorpion’s spear & Sub-Zero’s freeze is exactly the reason I loved playing as Shujinko with all his moves unlocked in Deception. I straight up did with his movest what people did with Kitana’s moveset in MK2, I used his special moves to come up with ridiculous combos. This playthrough with Reptile put a smile on my face.
This is amazing! I grow up playing the first MK, and as a kid, this is the closest how I imagined the second would be. It took me a while to get used to MK II. Great work!
Same here!! My bro and I had only just recently gave MK2+ / UMK3+ a shot. Since back when these came out we thought they were just more Mugen MK games. Had NO idea that they were indeed actual arcade hacks! We would've been all over them had we known. Really hope these games get to see the light of day that they absolutely deserve.

Although I think it makes more sense to fight Shang Tsung in the Throne Room, I always loved that you fought him in Goro's Lair with the Throne Room music playing. It lent such a sinister and creepy vibe to the fight!
I agree, it's at least better than facing Shao Kahn in The Pit III in MK3/UMK3/MKT. I mean, it's more a normal stage than a Shao Kahn stage (unlike Kahn's Arena).

They really had such an excellent character for Reptile and they really screwed him up after Mortal Kombat 3. Reptile should have always been kept as a green ninja and have human skin not some ugly lizard creature.

That ending vs shang tsung was so epic. I love this vetsion it's like the Super complete arcade edition they kept so much of the original and just improved and expanded on everything.

The very first video game I was ever introduced to as a 7 year old & the very first introduction to a "Secret Character" in history & in video game history because I didn't even know what a "secret character" was till I played this game in 1994 & I believe this is the very first true "secret character" also so Reptile is so legendary for that reason alone!!!!! I kinda wish they never brought him back in any of the sequel games or movies because of the particular reason alone!!!! I did think he was shown perfectly in the original MK film as well because nobody expected him to pop up in that film at least as a actual battle/fight/match/ninja form so he will always be the he greatest most legendary"secret character" that will ever exist in human history ❤ This also has to be the hardest "secret character" to unlock 🔓 in video game history also!!!!
I have a shit load of arcade ROMs plus the beta + ROMs I'm like a collector of ROMs and really would like this ROM for the completion of the betas that I have.
I just love how people play around with this game considering reptile was never a part of it back, then except the fact that you can see him and play him as a hidden character not a playable one

The graphics look great, it’s really beautifully restored and I appreciate the change in background light, and even though these mugen add cool stuff I appreciate the simplicity and to make it mk1 accurate to the time
Since there's no ending for Reptile in this version, let me toss one in here that would be fitting for MK1: While lurking in the background to protect Shang Tsung, Reptile monitors the ongoing Mortal Kombat tournament. Upon seeing Liu Kang in action, he rushes back to report to his true employer: a warlord from another world entirely. Reptile gets new orders there: Cut our losses. He returns to the tournament and ambushes Tsung, defeating him easily. The last anyone sees of him is a swirling orange portal. Perhaps the kombat will kontinue on another day.

shure!, it does have super speed, but it's not very noticeable because I always go backwards, if you look closely, the cpu can't catch up with me when I move backwards, this doesn't happen with normal characters.

I would like to play it with save state support, which the older version of MAME 32 does not have save state support. When I try to play it on Final burn Neo, it just loads regular revision 5 t-unit.

When I was young, I assumed he was a ninja who trained under both the Lin Kuei and Shira Ryu. I love what he is now but MK1 Reptile was so mysterious.

It was announced that this game (MK1+), would be available in December 2022. This is very unbearable and disappointing.
Maybe that'll be the name of Mortal Kombat 1's updated edition...
