I love the misdirect with Scorpion and Reptile. The obvious choices wouldn't have been as satisfying.
I also really like the ones loke Sub Zero Polar bear, where the animal keeps digging into their torso.

I've always thought it's because Scorpion wasn't in mk3 but Sheeva was. So when Scorpion got added, they'd already used a scorpion.

I want to see Animalities return for MK12, I mean MK9 brought back Babality, MKX brought back Brutality, and MK11 brought back Friendship, I personally think Animality should return, but done right, like Scorpion turning into a Scorpion (which I know that happened in MK4) I think it was stupid to have scorpion turn into a penguin, Reptile turning into a chimpanzee, Mileena turning into a skunk, they should've had Reptile morph into a Crocodile, and Mileena morph into a hyena!

Thank you for this. I played trilogy for a long time back in the day and was never able to do any animalities. Asked friends and the internet but they never worked for me. Glad i finally got to see them
i'm sorry to hear you didn't do the animalities do you still play any mortal kombat discs and/or online games did you try different controllers and/or game systems do you remember doing any babalaties brutality's and/or fatalies please let me know
The only animality that returned is Liu Kang's, which is probably the one that made sense the most (It returned in MK9 BTW) but if there's another one that returned, let me know

Agreed, but it's also funny how many Fatalities have the characters tapping into their "wild side", like Liu Kang for one as well as Scorpion, since in MK4, he _FINALLY_ got a Fatality where he becomes his namesake! Even Nightwolf could get his Animality back as a possible Fatality!

Pretty obvious Midway ran out of their creative juices when assigning animalities and fatalities to characters after the original MK3
I think they actually got pretty creative with MK3, but it's the execution that really missed the mark. They were going for silly, but it looks so cheap. It's almost like MK3 is a stab at the overly critical adults that criticized the brutality and gore of the first two games. So they toned it down and made the third game ridiculously cheap and cartoony.
They wanted to reuse sprites or make it very simple... Ermac, Rain and Noob on UMK3 are sad, so unfinished lol

I still say Reptile’s the funniest one. It’s not because of the unexpected form he took. It’s what happens after that’s random. Here you got Scorpion. The hell spawn of vengeance. A video game icon. He who fears nothing… but monkey. The monkey don’t even do anything. He just straight up runs!
Here's my list of Animalities should included:
1. Hydra for eating limbs from it's opponent
2. Buffalo to knock the skeleton out of the kombatant's body
3. Crab for crushing and chopping off limbs
4. Preying Mantis for cutting and eating your enemy
5. Octopus for squeezing and devouring your kombatant
6. Griffon for eating and flying away with the body
7. Seagulls a flock for devouring the opponent
8. Crayfish for slapping the opponent with it's tail
9. Triceratops to impaled your enemy with it's horns
10. Crocodile for chomping your kombatant
Right like they should've given Reptile the Crocodile Animality in my opinion

Because Scorpion was not part of the original MK3 and Sheeva got the scorpion. They were lazy with these finishing moves, lazy enough to not reassign another animal to Sheeva and mess up Scorpion.

He wasn't really Australian until I think MK4. Trevor Goddard played him as a cockney in the movie, but was misinterpreted as Australian. Until then, he was intended to be v Japanese American. 🙂 it'd be funny, though I will agree

They had a missed opportunity to turn scorpion into a real scorpion

Didn't make sense to do it though because Sheeva already had the scorpion animality in MK3 before Scorpion was even added as a character later on in UMK3. So they gave him something completely ridiculous like a penguin to fit with the silly thematics that MK3 has overall with other fatalities anyway.

I had the PC version of this, and it had a different roar for the Animality announcement. The moves were very hit and miss; generally, the original ones were better, but there were still more misses than hits.

Noticed that other then the 15 original characters from MK3, every other characters afterward explode into their animal form rather than actually transforming into one. You know this cause when the MK3 character transform they change back whereas the ones not in MK3 doesn't change back.
And thematically they made sense in what animal they turned into, then you have Penguin Scorpion and Chimpanzee Reptile.
I can tell the developers half assed these
So... Liu Kang becomes a dragon, Nightwolf becomes a wolf, Rain becomes an elephant, Raiden becomes an electric eel, and Classic Sub-Zero becomes a polar bear

Baraka turns into a vulture for some reason and somehow rips the top half of Raiden off without doing anything to anchor him, including leaving his two floating forearms which the developers definitely noticed because they added red circles and little bones sticking out.
MKT was a great game.

I noticed the PS1 version has a few different voices compared to the N64; i remember that Baraka, Scorpion, Stryker, Jax, and Shang Tsung had the same voice, and then there's the Rayden/Raiden thing; i guess the PS1 Rayden didnt wanna piss off the cyborg ninja from Metal Gear Solid bu spelling his name the same way😅

If they brought back Animalities for Mortal Kombat 1, I think the best way to reincorporate them would be for the character performing the Animality to summon their spirit animal and then have that spirit animal kill the opponent.
Here are some of the spirit animals I'd associate with the respective character and how I'd imagine they'd kill the opponent.
Liu Kang: Eastern Dragon (seems obvious). The dragon would appear and breathe fire on the opponent until their flesh is scorched, then the dragon would bite down on the opponent's torso and rip it off.
Raiden: Raiju (basically a beast made of lightning). The raiju would roar at the opponent before pouncing on them and mauling them with it's claws and teeth until they look mutilated, then the raiju would unleash an explosion of electricity around it while roaring which fries the opponent's remains.
Sub-Zero: Polar Bear (callback to original Animality): The polar bear would stand on it's hind legs and roar at the opponent, the polar bear would then pounce down onto the opponent and maul them, ending with the polar bear using it's paw to rip out the opponent's head and spinal cord, which it shows off.
Scorpion: Scorpion (duh): The scorpion would grab the opponent with it's pincers by their calves and then thrust it's tail forward where the stinger pierces through the opponent's head, the scorpion would then pull it's tail back, ripping off the opponent's head in the process, and then spread out it's pincers which rips the opponent's body in half.
Johnny Cage: Gorilla (King Kong reference). The gorilla would roar while pounding it's chest towards the opponent before grabbing the opponent's arms and ripping off, the gorilla then grabs the opponent's head and rips it off their shoulders before throwing it at their chest with enough force to make the head go straight through the chest.
So many extra body parts. 😆

Some of them like Sub-Zero as a polar bear nightwolf as a wolf make a lot of since even Molina as s skunk indefinitely Liu Kang as a dragon. But scorpion as a penguin makes no sense and reptile being achimp also makes no sense. Scorpion should definitely turn into a giant scorpion in mortal Kombat 4 that is one of his fatalities and probably his best and most logical one. And reptile turning into any type of reptile would make sense he could be a komodo dragon or even an alligator.
Apesar de criticado da pra ver a diferença dos personagens de mk3 são mais bem desenhados com contornos, tamanho grande e retornam a ser o personagem após o animalitys, já os enseridos depois no umk3 mkt, são menores, sem contorno, com menos sentido e não retornam a ser humanos.
It would have been interesting to see what color the non "Vanilla" MK3 characters would have became for their respective animalities had the animators stuck with the original style of animality animation.

Its interesting to see how the MK3 Animalities have transformation frames and in some cases tried to make the animal make sense for the person turning into them. Then the Trilogy Animalities all transform in a sudden explosion and are almost all gags.
Also, im pretty sure Raiden killed himself. Theres no eel when his Animality ends.
Returned characters lack certain animations because they use the same sprites as their debuts
By returned I assume you mean ones not in MK3, and yep thats true. But they could have made transformation frames, and tried to associate the animal like they did with the MK3 ones. Its an interesting difference in work.
