Great video! I use a sharpie in an angle cube to get an exact idea of how big a problem I've got. Then I set my machine at an angle that kind of meets in the middle working the left side and the right side till I get you the edge right. If I'm going to reprofile to a different angle this is the time I do it. For example Going from 20° down to 15 per side. Thanks again for the video outstanding. 😎👍
my bevel on one side is larger than on the other side , but all the way ... same eather for my combat knife than my kitchen knife . Both new knifes that i sharp with my new fix blade sharpening tool ( gen3 xarlik ) i give same amount of storke on each side , and my degree adjustement seems to hold when i flip , so i need to go back coarse and work only the thin side until my bevel go larger ?
What to do if one side of knife is 20 degrees and the other 18 degrees . Should u just keep the factory edge and over time will work out or should you sharpen both sides at 19 degrees . Great video . TYVM
What about when one side is wider than the other side. Should I work the smaller bevel size to match the wider bevel or work the wider bevel to try and match the smaller bevel? I'm working on my sebenza thats new and one side was 22.5 degrees and the other 23.8 degrees im half way through now
Work the smaller size first. Your bevel and apex are off center. You want to move it back towards the center I would probably just do both at 22. Working the smaller steeper bevel first.
Ruike does this to there budget knives. I was so aggravated with it that I emailed them to find out WTH they are doing to their bevels. They report that one side is sharpened at 32 degrees and other side at 24. I have no clue why they would have an 8 degree difference. All 6 of the different Ruikes I’ve bought are like this.
Frustrating.. I do it the same way (make sure both side are same, in this case i would even out both sides and put tiny microbevel at the tip but it has side effect (fashion affects function).. Good job Gunny
Hey gunny what’s a good follow up stone to use after the venev ocb 1200 grit. I was looking at some ceramics in the 8-10,000 grit range but I respect your advice. Would that be too high or too low
The 1,200 is about an 8K stone. You can go with a ceramic higher. Like a Shapton Glads 16K or Chosera or something like that. I usually go to strops after the 1,200.
This makes a lot of sense Gunny. Thank you for the tidbits you share. Well done sir.
Thank you for all of your tutorials!

Nice! I really do enjoy the magnification. I don't quite have that. It was nice to see
Thanks
Earlier today, I had this situation with a ZT. Coincidentally, my fix is what you suggest here.
Great tip. Thanks.

Good point

Thank you, I am glad that some of these videos are helpful.

I usually will take the 20 degree side to 18 and even things out.

It’s surprising sometimes just how many companies do that.

I noticed the Chinese clone / high end knife market doesn't have any of these uneven bevel problems... Crazy right
Oh yeah? I haven’t noticed, but I don’t deal with a lot of clones.
@@GunnysSharptalk I lied its always hit or miss with everything it seems
@@jdbaker82 that’s kind of what I find. Some high end American made knives are way off and some are spot on. Same with knives made anywhere else.
