I wish I’d found this channel sooner. I’ve gotten somewhat obsessed with sharpening the last few months. I don’t have a digital microscope but I have a jewelers loupe (12$ from Amazon) that has been invaluable.
Agreed with information regarding the pressure. I think a lot of people naturally want to use pressure instead of letting the stone doing the work. I am guilty of this myself when I first started using the KME.
Love your videos. I have all your products and think they are the best on the market. Enjoyed talking with you at Blade Show. Thanks for all you do for the community!
Just picked up a ko3 from Gritomatic. Thanks so much for all your wisdom and what you do the the knife community! I am grateful for you Scott! Do you have a video on proper stroke methods? I’ll be buying juice soon. My buddy tells me to go back n fourth but I’m thinking scratch pattern and your motion in this video was upwards. Maybe you have a video I can keep looking. Thank again!
Thanks. I do more scrubbing motions than anything. If you watch I am pretty sure I discuss scratch patterns in a few videos. If not you can ask here or reach out to me on FB as “Scott Gunn”
@@GunnysSharptalk awesome will do, thanks so much for the quick response! I can tell you’re passionate and a great teacher. My preferred teachers. Keep up the great work. You are appreciated! Andrew from MN
A couple of decades ago when I was in gunsmithing school we were taught to alternate scratch patterns as much as 45° or even 90° between grits when transitioning for a few passes and then continue with your primary polishing/sharpening pattern. I've noticed the same works fairly well on knife edges. I do have a question for you though about strops and emulsions. Frankly I'm fairly confused about the whole matter. I'm not a sharpening snob and with the exception of a few kitchen knives never take edges past 2500 and I think 6um Gunny Juice is the way to go for me. I just don't know what strop material to put it on. I'm at the end of a Venev tube of paste and I'm about to totally revamp my stropping system. Any insight would be greatly appreciated Scott TIA.

Gunny, Brother! I haven't surfed the FB forums in a while. You doing good, big fella?
Recovering from a surgery, but I am good. I have several new products coming out.
How are you liking the hapstone?
I’m not Mr Gunny, but I have the Hapstone R2 and it’s awesome.
