This: 'Booze is fun and meant to be enjoyed with others' This is the right attitude right here. Can't stand gatekeeping... But also, Gonna have to try that smash when it's a more sociable time of the day
It is a little awkward...but you are not wrong. In the American Whiskey episode (also with Mr. Siggins) Cara introduces him as "the closest thing to an American that she could find, a whiskey expert, and also my boyfriend..."
It's a pretty versatile ingredient! I grabbed some Spiced Cherry preserves (Murray's) recently and tossed them into a gin sour. A lot of those fancy jams that you might find on a cheese/charcuterie board would work well.
I’ve made many an old fashioned, both up and (down?), with Lagavulin. I call it a “Crime Against Humanity”, and won’t stop drinking them anytime soon. I find it accentuates the smoke and the brine and I don’t know of a better way of appreciating scotch than by appreciating its characteristic flavors. I enjoy finding bitters and citrus that pair particularly well with various whiskeys and don’t give any sandwiches for how expensive they are or how unadulterated they’re meant to be consumed.
Hi again Cara, I made this cocktail to Fred's spec but with Monkey Shoulder blended scotch. Also used Bon Marion's Apricot conserve. Very very nice. However, I got all the rest of the jam out from the shaker and the strainer and put it on a fresh slice of apricot & fennel bread. Heavily laced with the whisky delicious and did not go to waste. Gave me the thought that maybe some fennel seeds put into the shaker and fennel fronds instead of the sage as garnish could work better. I shall try that next time but have several more new ones to try beforehand. Nick from York
Hi Cara, This looks very nice!!!In York, England, I can't access Aussie whisky but I have all the other ingredients. I will make it with Monkey Shoulder blended Scotch. Nick from York
Thank you for this whole series. My gangs general go-to is Glenmorangie Lasanta or Quinta Ruban, so going to keep an eye out for a bottle of Starward Nova to try out.
Hey. Since we have talked about the satsuma before. I still think you should make some of your on drinks using satsuma for the citrus. But any way. I have a buddy that makes homemade lemon cello. He made some satsuma cello from some satsuma peal grain achole and 3 cups of simple syrup. But the syrup was made with orange blossom honey instead of suger. And the orange was the satsumas. Its grate. Ice-cold its very refreshing in this hot weather.
My wife enjoys a Scotch and dry. Her favourite scotch is Johnny red. Having said that she loves Tallisker storm and dry also .We also have the Welsh Penderyn whisky. Too good to mix,LOL i'm Welsh
Recently visited Loch brewery in South Gippsland, 4 Gins mm m the Loch Whiskey will be my next purchase whiskey mixes thanks for the other than Coca-Cola.. very informative 👍🇦🇺

@Christopher Tysen Henriksen This is the kind of positivity I need in my life 🤣
This is great. that smash is beautiful. And the conversation was excellent.
You gotta get more of these into the states. The high ABV casking is right up our alley, Bourbon is still the American lifeblood.
Love your channel, love learning different ways of drinking and the best of all I love drinking 🤪
Just remember

Looks great. Love to see some more Australian whisky cocktails....Cheers
Very nicely done Cara. Great informative and enjoyable interview. Smiling, George.
Hopefully this isn't an awkward comment, but I'm in the mood to say such things... you guys are great together!

@@elegantoverkill4233 makes sense now. I just meant I like the way they interact in a collaborative sense.
Collaborative in life and whisky 😜
@@BehindtheBar Not so awkward then :)
That’s one tasty looking drink you have there. I haven’t used a lot of jams in my cocktails, but I like the idea!

That sounds like a great substitute. Did you ever try it?
Nice! Reminds me a bit of a Breakfast Martini. Cheers Cara
You're so welcome!
@ Nicolas Fines; Try the Bowmore I think you could sip at it. Or the Abalour 12 as it too is a very sip'able drink.
Ok I'm here for the series. Time to drink whiskey while you know.... learning about whiskey
Makes perfect sense to me!
The smash looks beautiful and tasty. Isn't the jam too sweet for the drink? Nice colour 😋
There’s no other sweet component so it works nicely 😊
@@BehindtheBar 👍
Same spec really for a Breakfast Martini, when its the only sweetener it works great

Yeah if that’s your jam it’ll be right up your alley!

I’ve used mandarins before but never satsumas actually- good idea!

I need to add this dude on Facebook. He really knows Aussie Whisky. Lol 😂
Any insight on Australian Bitters Company? A local place just started bringing them in. I have not had a chance to try them yet.
I don’t think I know them! I’ll have to have a look 😊
I have their aromatic bitters and frequently use it in place of Angostura
Apricot jam is readily available state side.
This one reminds me a bit of the Breakfast Martini
sorry to say. My only experience with Australian "whisky" was Corio, and that was paint stripper.
Haha there’s many more I promise!
Wouldbät it have been pretty cool if Ralph ("Rafe") Fiennes was a fan of the channel, though?
It would be cool, but it was only me.
Which is also very cool.
Yeah, I'm sure Nicholas is a cool dude as well!
@@Hargiwald I’m not sure my children would agree 😎
Ya..... I knew Car wasn't putting her smash down until 3 or 4 pulls.....
Sign of a great cocktail
