Thanks so much for this video! You easily cut my sewing time in half, and made my sewing project really fun! I made four cushions in under two days & they look great! I found your simple instructions easy to modify for my needs - adding tiebacks, beefing up the foam size a bit & putting an upholstery style zipper in. I did need to add a few pins when sewing the pieces together. Your sewing skills are impressive :) We recently had our dining room chairs professionally reupholstered in the same Vern Yip fabric that you feature in the video. Love it!
Followed this tutorial step-by-step to recover my patio furniture cushions. They came out great & I'm so happy I found your page!! Never sewed anything other than a basic pillowcase before, now I feel like a pro!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
I love this! I am so happy we could help!
You made it look so easy! I have foam that I bought a looong time ago, I also got fabric and with this tutorial I'm ready to try and make the cushion for a swing.
I learn by watching UA-cam, thanks for an excellent tutorial.
Excellent tutorial, thank you! Just made a window seat cover today using it. The bit about the zipper was especially helpful! It came out great!
thank you for showing me a no piping look:) I'm not ready to try piping yet and have been wondering how it would look.
Thank you for the great video I have used this as reference when making new box cushions.
I altered my pattern to have the zipper wrap around the edges for an easier fit because camper cushions have a board under the foam.
I flipped my seams ripper over but I lived your tip on how to sew in the zipper! I was nervous about that and your instructions were perfect. I was a little confused on the note about the width of the zipper but after asking my sister she reassured me you meant the width of the zipper including the fabric not just the teeth.
You video was fast paced and not repetitive which was great! Thank you for sharing!
Great tutorial! This was my first attempt at making a zippered box cushion and it turned pretty good!
Best tutorial of any kind I have seen. Precise easy to follow, quick and non-repetitive. Thank you. More youtubers should follow your lead.
I’ve been looking to replace two patio seats and this video was VERY helpful. Retail prices were $120 to $200 and they weren’t the right size. This video gave me refresher course since I haven’t sewn in a long time, and saved me a lot of money. I was looking at another big retailer who is local and on-line, where I thought I was getting good prices until I found they didn’t carry the upholstery zippers. Then I looked at your shop and the fabric they had “on sale”( LMAO) was drastically beating by your regular (non-sale) prices. I purchased the material, heavy duty thread, zippers, Dacron padding, adhesive spray, 3 yards of fabric marker and machine needles all for less than the other store for 2 yards of fabric and padding. For only $53.00 with free shipping and $5 off from a coupon I found on-line. I am so happy!! On top of all this, when I’m finished, I’ll have two beautiful custom Tommy Bahama cushions and possibly pillows. I just hope they come out as beautiful as this video. I’m little confused on the whole sewing around the corners bit. Thank you
Thank you so much for sharing! Sorry if that part is a little confusing, we do have the full written instructions here: www.onlinefabricstore.net/makersmill/how-to-make-box-cushions-with-a-zipper/
Hope this helps!
This was the best tutorial I've seen for how to measure and cut the fabric for a box cushion. I always had a problem when it came to the correct measurement for the zipper placque. Thank you.
Happy to help!
Thank you so much for this video! It's the only one that has really and truly gave precise instructions on how to make a box cushion cover. I'm going to redo the first two that I did using your instructions! You rock!
Thank you Juanita! Glad we could help :)
can't get over that cute nail color!
I just followed this steps and voila i made our lounge chair a foam with a wonderful cover. Thank you so much!
Haven't sewn in years...attempted to cover sunroom box cushions with a zipper. Your video was invaluable. So easy to understand. Helped me through the pattern making phase to the finish. Thanks so much from Canada 🇨🇦
I am so glad!
I don't really sew. I just learned sewing during my high school days. Now that i am a home maker, instead of paying somebody to do stuffs for our apartment homes, i just do it on my own. Thank you so much for this very helpful video. I saved money. I will put piping on my next works soon.
Wow that was helpful - thankyou - I would never have thought of putting a zipper in like that!
Wonderfull! First time made box cover for cushion. YOUR tutorial is brilliant! Simple, clear, esthetic! Thank you! ❤
THANK YOU SO MUCH. I've been looking for an easy way to cover an existing cushion for my favorite bamboo chair!! I'm definitely trying this soon!!!!
Thank you for this! My window box cushion project was a bit more complicated but your video helped a lot! I appreciate the tips.
Making a waterproof cover for my (very old) dog's bed. Thanks for the straightforward video. As a guy who started sewing last month you've made the project less intimidating.
Brilliant! You did an amazing job!
Thank you so so much!!!!! You were my saver for this project!! It was easy and the result is beyond my expectations!!! Merci beaucoup!!!! ❤️
Thanks girlie for your tutorial. I haven't sewn in years. This vid really helped me get back on machine to make patio cushion covers. I made a few trial attempts 1st.
I always tell people to keep lots of muslin on hand for that exact reason! I find that making trial runs is the best way to get a fantastic end result. Work out any kinks before using your expensive fabric!
Excellent video and I appreciate the written instructions as well. It's very useful to be able to customize the size of the cushions. Thanks a lot.
amazing video - easy to follow. Now if we can all just learn your sewing skills.
Thank you! This is the best tutorial on how to properly sew a box cushion that I have found. Great job!!!
Exactly what I needed to make the covers for my camper van mattress, which will basically be 4 box cushions. This video helped tremendously - thanks!

It’s a game changer, isn’t it? I’d never do it any other way now
So elaborated and very useful.
Thank you so much.
I could not find what I wanted so I will just be making my own cushions for my patio chairs. Beautiful work, thank you!
This was a great tutorial. I have never made a box cushion before. Branching out and you made it easy. Thank you! I used a soft faux leather and it looks very nice.

On the seam reaper their is a little red ball....that should face down.. so to make sure you're not cutting anything else, but the seam... just an advise.
You're right, thanks. Sometimes I forget!
Clearest tutorial I've seen in this topic
Great tutorial, thanks!
Thank you so much for your clear and concise video. I was able to make new cushion covers for my friend's motorhome from this tutorial and they turned out great!

Thank you!
Excellent!
Now i trust you implicitly to make my cushion covers for me!
Thanks. :-)
Thanks for the video. It has proven helpful as we have had to watch it a few dozen times. Two questions when you are cutting the boxing, your calculation states “foam” bit do you also consider the batting as in addition to the thickness of foam? # 2 when you say length of zipper are you referring to the actual length plus 2” or the zipper opening plus the 2”?
thanks this was superb I have successfully made a cushion cover this evening thanks to you.
Fantastic video. Thank you.
Hi when you measure the length of the zipper , does it include the fabric ( from the zipper)
Nice video , it gave me as a novice many helpful tips. My question is related to the ripping the fabric to gain access to the zipper from the outside of the fabric. How do you prevent the cut zipper opening from fraying? OR did I miss a step. Thanks,
Hi Mark, It's not actually ripping the fabric, just the thread from the first seam sewn on the zipper panel. There will be little pieces of thread to pick out, but the fabric won't be damaged.
Very helpful! Thank you.
You're welcome Maggie :)
Thank you so much, you made it look easy
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Beautiul job....I have the same chairs as this. They are beautiful.

Super helpful. Thank you!
You're so welcome!
Do you recommend pressing the seams open for a crisp look?
Perfect cut and stich thanks
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
I love this! I am a rookie at sewing and need to make box cushion covers for our new van conversion bench seats. We are using 6 inch memory foam. Should I wrap the zipper around the sides a bit to get the cushion/mattress in? Thanks for the amazing video!
Sure! That will definitely make it a little easier to get the cushion in. I do recommend this to make your life easier, but its personal preference, depending on how you would like your cushion to look.
@@onlinefabricstore thanks for your reply! The back and sides will have walls around them so only the front will show!
great job
very nice ,I was looking for such type of vidio..and i got it for the box cushions...🙋
Great Tutorial! How much would You charge someone to make one of these cushion covers; providing they supplied the material, i.e fabric, foam, zipper, thread, etc. please?
Thanks A Million!
Sorry, we don't make covers, we just sell the fabric and supplies!
This is a great tutorial. How do we know what length of zipper to use? It looks like your zipper was slightly shorter than the cushion width. Are there any guidelines to the size of zipper as it relates to the cushion? Thanks!
Thanks! There's no real rules but it's easier to get the foam in the cover with a zipper that's as long as possible but still shorter than the back. For cushions where the sides will be hidden, some people even wrap the zipper around the sides a couple inches.
best zipper trick EVER!!!
Really it is very easy to sew
Hi - I love this video. One of my cushion covers turned out a little too long. Do you have any advice on how I can fix it?
I would probably recommend seam ripping as little as possible and then re sewing. I usually try to avoid taking the whole thing apart, but it is, unfortunately, sometime necessary. I hope that is not the case for you!
hi iam vini from india its very very good and very easy thank u actually iwas planning to sew the same and found very easy way for sewing thesame
Thanks!
Nice review
Yeah, you make it look so easy!
