Welcome to the first out of MANY flights with the magnificant Fly By Wire A380! A quick note here on the video titel: "First Flight" really means it! This is a plane you really got to learn and get around the systems as nothing the likes has been out on the market just yet. The same of course applies for myself as I'm not A380 rated. So expect so rougher edges occasionally. If I type'd myself properly before doing the first vid you probably wouldn't see one for the next three months or so ;-)
@@worlds_okayest_pilot_421 Why do you say that? Sometimes, just sometimes, somebody on the internet tells the truth. Ask me a question about operating an A380. First thing I can say about this sim is that at least two of the Checklists are wrong; the Before Start Checklist is split into 2 parts; above the line and 'below the line'. It's not 2 separate checklists, they are one and it's held on the screen until you have had clearance from the pushback team and also Ground/Ramp frequency to push. After starting engines, you would select the flaps, wait for them to finish running out, then complete the control checks THEN the after start checklist (and it would also include the line GROUND CREW CLEARANCE.....SEEN, which is not in there on this sim). That enough knowledge for you?
This is an early revision, just imagine how brilliant its going to be a year from today. Airbus should pitch in and help with the development and provide some data.
This puts the Aerosoft A330 release even more on the spot. These people did in 4 years for free what a bunch of paid developers couldn't do in the same time. A quick tip for the frequency tuning: You don't have to enter the 1 any longer. The system knows that all frequencies start with a 1.
@@wy206They did it for free in their spare time all the donations are going to servers/ equipment for developers and stuff but they are not getting paid.
I'm pretty sure the amount if hours spent was similar though. Not an excuse, but I'm assuming FBW had like 100 people working 2hrs a week, while Aerosoft had 5 working 40hrs.
While (by their own admission) the A380 is not perfect, this freeware aircraft is much better than many payware aircraft. Honestly I can’t believe it is free. Now that Fly By Wire has released it to us we must help them by reporting any bugs so they can improve it. Do many thanks to all the incredible people at FBW.
It'd be nice if they put it inside the cockpit (maybe in an EFB) even if it's just the simbrief website that gets called up into an "in the EFB" browser
It should be noted though that the fuel burn in the profile is off. I read somewhere that FBW themselves recommend setting the Fuel Factor to -20. But I couldn't confirm this on their own website. However I'm currently in the air on a flight to Bangkok from Munich. And I have burned about 11% less fuel than predicted by Simbrief with one hour left until Destination.
@@Quotenwagnerianer better more fuel than less IMO ii don't mind it at all, I'm just using the profile they released on their website. i haven't been able to fly it yet coz my PC couldn't handle the 8k I'm trying the 4k to check, otherwise I don't mind waiting for further enhancement updates.
Yes 1+F is the correct flap setting indication on the 380 same as 350 for landing, BTV you need to go to PLAN then you zoom it'll automatically go to the airport
This is from the A350, but the PROG page is now under MONITOR-POSITION on the MFD. not sure if it should read GPS primary on the A380 as it is NAV PRIMARY on the 350. Thanks for showcasing this!
I think that is what A330 Driver did :-). This happened to me as well, same situation, different airport, unable to set BTV for destination airport, it was blank and was not responding when i tried to switch to airport manually on the display (ofcourse destination airport and landing runway set in FMC). BTV is sometimes buggy i suppose.
*Looks amazing! I just flew yesterday for real on Asiana A380 from Taipei to Seoul, sitting on the lower deck in the middle of the wing, you realise how massive that thing is*
This early revision A380X from FlybyWire is amazing as it is freeware. A big thank you to this team and their hard work and endeavours. Of course we must realise it is an early product in its developement phase and this will only get better over the next few months to come. Thank you so much Emanuel for showcasing this aircraft. Yup, the biggest problem for me was the optimisation even in the 4k version. And also depending on your own hardware, CPU choice and GPU, it is quite laggy in places, and big FPS drops. Of couse depending also on the airport scenery you are using. But it needs work in this area. The learning curve is greater and this adds to the enjoyment of this aircraft. We are so lucky in this time to be having such a simulator that adds to real immersion, something to stimulate the mind and excite the imagination. Of course as some of us may choose to head to MSFS 2024 when it launches it may be a long time before this product is compatible in that software. Enjoy it as this time. Certainly I hope it receives the love and care that the A32NX has had and enjoys the almost regular updates. Thank you.
Your productivity never seizes to amaze me, Emanuel. You are doing the FS Community a great service by uploading so many in depth videos. You have long surpassed my level of knowledge on flying Boeings and especially Airbuses, but I can always scroll back to one of your tutorials when I am in search of certain information that I don't understand at present.
Yes, most definitely! However I need to familiarize myself with the plane first. Contrary to many other types that get released for MSFS I do not have any previous experience with the A380 from my time in FSX or P3D. So this is all new for me as well.
I believe in some presentation or Q&A the devs said the engines are currently known to be over powered in the climb, but pretty accurate on the ground. So the climb rates you’re seeing are a bit over the top, even for a light plane.
Indeed. I just did a step climb after 8 hours of flight time from FL350 to FL390 at a GW of over 386000 and still got 2700 fpm. That's certainly not right.
Fun fact: In a stream 3 years ago with 2 A320 pilots and 3 guys from the FBW team about their A320 model they answered the question if and when they will provide an A380 model : "thursday". That was a running gag since then but they really did it :) Amazing and outstanding job they did with that model.
It’s Friday in Aus, shall I tell the Boss I need a sick day ? Oh well maybe not but in another 8 hours I will be exploring this magnificence. Thanks for a splendid introductory flight, I am sure your virtual type rating will come before mine. Off to work…..

I found an old one on internet some time back. Its dated Nov 2011 its only 7156 pages long and kills my computer when i load it. Seriously you don't need this I've never read more than 10% of it.
Did my first flight too a few mins ago - very impressive freeware indeed! Even if that was payware it woul still be pretty impressive. if the team can work on the performance this can really get an outstanding addon!
The lagging is caused by frame gen, it happens when you switch views, the 8k version is recommended on dx11 and 4k is recommended if using frame gen and dx12.
Sounds crazy to say “we are light” when casually flying above B77W MTOW 😂 A380 is amazing! I had the pleasure to fly with the jet 3x when traveling. Amazing jet to fly as a passenger, must be awesome for the pilots too.
Absurd, utterly absurd how far the sim has come in MSFS, this rate of development was unheard of in P3D and Xplane. Very very excited for what is to come!
The reason why you couldnt see the airport during your BTV setup is you forgot to change from arc to plan mode, the airport wont appear in arc mode. also once the airport vomrd up you nrrf to click on the numbers (runway identifiers) before you choose your exit. Also make sure its after the WET mark. took me a bit to get it too
@A330Driver you're most welcome, glad I could help. I can't fly this plan sadly but atleast I was able to configure everything. The plane becomes unplayable for me during decent mg while PC and my GPU seem to take a major hit, I'm running the 4k one but my poor ryzen 7 3800x and 1080ti can't handle this for now. I hope they release a performance update soon
i just tested it and in order to display the airport for the BTV feature you have to set it from ARC to PLAN, then it shows the airport and you can click on the RWY you want to take ( left click ) then it will display the brake performance in magenta in DRY and WET conditions. after that you can click on the exit you wanna take and it will show a green line. After that you can set the auto brakes to BTV. Hope you will try it again.
Definitely up there with some of the best payware aircraft, great video Emanuel. BTW I flew one under the Auckland harbour Bridge earlier (it fits just) and on climbout the right wing began flapping uncontrollably, was quite funny. Reloaded the aircraft in the dev mode and that fixed it.
Even though it totally bugged out for me on one flight (Pitch trim didn't move and was stuck at full deflection, always pitching up 30deg or so and then obviously going into alpha floor but still not recovering even with full nose down input, ending up at 0fpm while 12deg up with 120kn) it is so much fun! Amazing what kind of complex systems they implemented.
It is a bit of a triumph for the FBW crew isn't it. With the release notes they seemed to be playing down its usability somewhat, but it flies just fine.. Well done FBW.. Also, 4k is good enough and frame rates are much better
Hi, if you want to re-centre your onboard airport map display, double left Click mouse the ND when you're in onboard airport map display mode, then press the last option, Re-centre to ACRT if I remember the full correct name 😂.
I’m downloading this the second I get home from work today 😍. I just hope ToLiss can make one for x plane now, I really loathe the physics in MSFS 😩.. Edit I’m literally crying this is like a dream come true 😭😍 The sound of the flaps and engines are stunning!
One question what resources are you using for studying the a380?I tried myself but couldn’t find a fcom or some general information about individual systems or even flows.
Had 3 flight tests with this acft. Amazing work, but a lot to improve in terms of performance. FBW said that we can expect around 25% of performance impact compared to A320 but even using 4K textures, I lost more than 50% of FPS. I saw a lot of comments in this way on FBW's Discord. In a quick test using scenery and online environment, I had a constant 15/20 FPS, making this airplane nearly unusable. In the same environment I had a solid 40/50 using Fenix. FBW made a brilliant work with this airplane, and for a freeware add-on it's absolutely wonderful but the acft needs a LOT of performance tuning.
Regarding glideslope. EFB has an option under Settings > Sim Options > Use calculated ILS Signals which might help with wrong MSFS glideslopes like in the video. Didn't have time to test it yet though.
Thanks for this video! Can't wait to give it a go. Small note, and only because I've heard you say it a number of times: "magnificent" is pronounced "magnifisent" The C is soft.
Just a quick note: when you start engine 1 and 2 you turn engine number one on and then you have to wait until eng 1 is at 10% N2. Thereafter you can start engine 2. Same for engine 3 and 4
It‘s not how Lufthansa does it. In the PilotsEye Jürgen Raps episode he also starts 1, 2 and 3, 4 directly after one another without waiting for 10% N2.
The OANS/BTV worked while enroute when I used the 'PLAN' view on the ND, the destination Airport did show then. This is hinted in the notes for pilots where it says that in 'PLAN' any Airport can be displayed.
Great vid by the way. I am a A32nx but hell its really well done . I was getting stutters in A32nx in development mode . In A380X at 4k really nice with NO stutters at all really good
I waited for this yesterday on their discord and another 2 hours of waiting for download. The server traffic is on a whole another level. Worth it though.
Land this bird at Madeira 05 runway with an rnav approach in fog... or vor in good weather...i would love to know if its possible technically, of course for procedure in real world is not because of regulations
Technically it would be easy. Turnrates are the same between all aircraft and the A380 actually has very slow approach speeds (remember it was designed to be expanded into a -900 and perhabs -1000, the wings are much too large for the -800 we got in the end).
Nice video again !! i just wonder sir. If there is any possibility would you be open up to take us on a journey and show us how to properly handle ( medical emergeny on board and how to deal with it if you really need to divert Asap ? I’ve never seen any instruction video on a yt that would explain. Thanks a lot and have a great one
I would be interested to know how much Vram is being used because the issue you are getting at 1:08:47 with the shaky camera is a 4000 series issue with frame gen normally when the vram maxes out, not normally common on a 4090 as it has 24GB but say the 4070 with just 12 really suffers with it in certain resolutions and higher level of details. guessing the 8k textures are filling it up.
For performance calculator you can use simbrief calculator and for gear camera I just setup camera view et same position as in real life (I know that its not the most realistic since you can't see screens ect but I think its better than nothing :) )
Maybe aviation lingo is different, but in physics, you can't get rid of inertia, as it is an intrinsic property of mass. You can only get rid of kinetic energy, which I think is what you meant to say?
And I thought my graphic card was getting bad, and I see that stutters and flickering happen to you as well. And I also have to fix it by alt+enter twice
Didn't you find a problem in the engine reverse? The cockpit reverse throttle can't be moved, even you can see from outside that engine did reverse , but indeed affect no aircraft speed ?
Incredible what they have delivered, especially considering it's still an Alpha (and free!) Unfortunately makes the Aerosoft A330 release even more sad.
Honestly, I'm blown away. I wasn't really that hyped for this aircraft tbh, not a huge 380 fan irl, as I'm more into modern ETOPS planes, especially the 350. Once that is released by ini, I won't bee seen for weeks. However, after downloading the whale today, I was super impressed by the functionality of the systems, the visual quality end attention to detail. This is absolutely well within payware range. And I'm so happy to finally have a modern long haul Airbus too. I'm also even more sad in a way to see what motivated freeware developers can do in 4 years vs Aerosoft with ther 330, but well... That's probably a trauma chasing many of us for quite some time
First flight I selected direct to, and then the PFD/ND froze, the doors started opening and closing and the flightcontrols became unrresponsive... Gotta love an Alpha release :)
I have a pretty high-end system, but I haven’t been able to fly this aircraft without serious stutters and lagging. What do your specs look like and did you do anything to optimize to fly this one specifically?
Managed three flights and it’s impressive for sure has its moments but Tbf I had a lot less issues than I anticipated. I’m flown the FF350 a lot so am more familiar with the FMS than if just flew the 320/etc. I find it much quicker to use the function keys (fpln etc) on the KCCU but use pc keyboard for typing letters and numbers, helpful when your pc is slow 😅 saves laggy cursor. I used 4k version made no sense use 8k when they said it’s tough on pc need get all the fps you can. Once your used to FMS left clicking waypoint gives so many options and saves a lot of messing around. It’s a shame the position options are not available gives a lot of useful information. As others have said Simbrief has profile and perf calc produces believable figures although I carnt prove it right or wrong. I’ve only tried procedures and flights I do for practice and study which are not too difficult and she flies them very well. Can only believe this will improve as time goes on.. it’s already a really fun and capable aircraft great time to be in fsim. Gratz to all involved in FBW for making such lovely aircraft. Looking forward to seeing plenty of videos. I don’t believe A380 is coded at present to give the deviations GPS/IRS/RNP as its on the position/monitor page that doesn't exist . This page on the FF350 at least shows GPS/FMC/IRS positions, accuracy and RNP etc although i don't know what the EPS accuracy stands for, is for ? It is listed above the RNP accuracy.
How do you fix the shutter that I see at 37:03 and other spots in the video? It sounds like you were hitting keys. Also, I appreciate your work and providing these tutorials.
Hey Emanuel. Great video! We alle waited so long for this Moment :) I would snuggest turn the graphics a bit down for the next video or just use the 4k that will also do it. And FBW says that they recommend using simbriefs calculator.
off topic question :) did u ever Take off from vienna RWY29? If yes, why is there such a steep left turn right after take off? is there a proper reason? btw i like your videos so much!:)
Nice plane.. but a lot of work to do left.... i made 3 trips and got LNAV problems on 2 of them.. on f-pln all ok, bujt on ND i had somthing messy in path.. and plane fly somewhere else but not on flight plan on that point
Double click the map and it'll bring up the menu to center on aircraft 😊 Also for BTV you need to have it on PLN mode. I'm sure you know by now though. 😅
Hi, i have high end System, using the 8k Version of the a380 I get constant stuttering and artefacts whenever changing to the outside camera, exactly like in 36:58 . Are you using the 8k or the 4k Version?
That's weird that you are getting those massive stutters when viewing the aircraft from the outside. I have similar setup except I run AMD 7950X cpu. But I run the sim in 1440p, and with frame generation on and TAA. It runs flawlessly. Oh and I downloaded the 8k version of the aircraft.
All very well, but I was hoping to fly the A380 manually then select AutoPilot 'manually' when up in the air. It simply cannot be done, as if something, somewhere, is overriding it(?). Moreover, on manual approach I had a nice 150knt on perfect glideslop, then just as I reached threshold, the aircraft started to climb, unexplained :-(
Pretty heavy in FPS, though I believe having the Ground map showing makes it worse (not displaying it might make it better?) Still amazing aircraft to have in Sim.

I was waiting for this video 😂
According to the FBW documentation, the TO Perf calculator can be done by the Simbrieft Performace Calculator. I've tried it, and it works super!
Du hast gut geschafft Emanuel. Ich gratuliere zu dir und bedanke dir für das geile Video.
What a fantastic aircraft .It was worth waiting so long for . 👍✈️Flap setting 1 plus F is okay , the A 380 has a bigger variety in flap setting .
For btv you did it correctly but you need to hit the double arrow button when you are a bit further out. That will then show destination airport map
It is a bit of a triumph for the FBW crew isn't it. With the release notes they seemed to be playing down its usability somewhat, but it flies just fine..
Well done FBW..
Also, 4k is good enough and frame rates are much better
I love your videos, been watching them forever!
Edit
I’m literally crying this is like a dream come true 😭😍 The sound of the flaps and engines are stunning!
Bruh msfs physics is fine
I love the Denethor, Faramir, Boromir situation we have here xD. Alternatively Gordon Ramsay cooking with adults vs kids meme.
Thank you for this easy to follow introduction to what is a very complex plane. Still much to learn! I may have to duplicate your simple flight plan.
Double left click on the ND to open a menu an find the center on acft option, it's pretty useful :)
Thanks a lot. I made my own checklist from your video and I think I can fly this plane now !
Thanks for this video! Can't wait to give it a go. Small note, and only because I've heard you say it a number of times: "magnificent" is pronounced "magnifisent" The C is soft.
just to let you know, you can use sim brief perf calculator to get you takeoff data!!
Too many documents to read at once haha
Found ‘em now though, thanks!
21:42 what did you do there? I also sometimes get these stutters. Which shortcut did you use to get rid of it?
If u put plan mode with the zoom u can see the arrival airport when u are airborne
Great video! That lagging effect that you get when you go into outside view is a result of your VRAM being maxed out, just a heads up!
Thanks! I have 24GB of VRAM, wonder how many more you'd need haha
Note about the OANS with BTV: You need to be in the "PLAN" mode to get the BTV working and zoom into the arr airport.
Gruß aus HH :)
We waited since ag but they made a wonderful bird, just worth the wait :) Congrats FBY
4k version looks plenty good and fels good too performance wise on my high end pc. Recommend it for anyone having problems
Turn off the cabin too helped with 8gb 3070. It’s the top left most little metal plate above behind the FO chair it’s shown in FBW discord
Maybe aviation lingo is different, but in physics, you can't get rid of inertia, as it is an intrinsic property of mass. You can only get rid of kinetic energy, which I think is what you meant to say?
If you want to use OANS in the air, you need to switch to plan mode
And I thought my graphic card was getting bad, and I see that stutters and flickering happen to you as well. And I also have to fix it by alt+enter twice
when you want to see the airport for btv on arrival etc make sure your in plan mode not arc
Didn't you find a problem in the engine reverse? The cockpit reverse throttle can't be moved, even you can see from outside that engine did reverse , but indeed affect no aircraft speed ?
tbh, I never looked at the levers in the cockpit during landing. The reversers themselves work just fine for me, like they do on any other aircraft.
Amazing video, but how do you get the auto break off call-out when landing ?
Was just about to about 8k or 4K version just as you mentioned you were on the 8k one
Simbrief has its own take off performance calculator under performance and tools that you could try.
Quite impressive. Laggy but impressive!
Hopefully that will improve with updates and better optimisation
4K version with the cabin turned off performs better, but it's already very good. Will only get better! Especially in MSFS2024
I think you need to go to PLAN mode when trying to display an airport you're not at on the OANS
I haven’t had such issues yet. But well, it’s still in a better shape than a lot of recently released payware 😂
I alt+enters to window mode the game and alt+enter again to make it fullscreen I think. This is what I did to fix it
Hey Emanuel.
It seems to need some more improvements, but that’s what to expect from an Alpha, right?
Great Video, I can't wait to fly it later... Many thanks
All very well, but I was hoping to fly the A380 manually then select AutoPilot 'manually' when up in the air. It simply cannot be done, as if something, somewhere, is overriding it(?). Moreover, on manual approach I had a nice 150knt on perfect glideslop, then just as I reached threshold, the aircraft started to climb, unexplained :-(
+74C! ...Is that within operating parameters?
Question, isn’t Thrust more or less the same as EPR? Of course the units are different, the range is different but what it shows is the same, right?
Pretty heavy in FPS, though I believe having the Ground map showing makes it worse (not displaying it might make it better?)
Still amazing aircraft to have in Sim.
