    OOOH booo who you had Utilities lines on your property they don't need your permission to enter the property to get to utilities lines

    As a utility locator, it would be practically impossible to let every homeowner know I’m on their property.

      Utility locators dont have problem letting homeowners in our area know about work thats gonna be done on properties. They will knock on door day or two before work is going to start, if no answer, they will tape notice to the door. Its not that hard to do.

    • @PhotonBread

      @@ChakatNightspark you really think I have time to knock on a door two days before works done? We get the ticket to locate only two days before the work is done. We don’t have time to go knock on everyone’s door. Sometimes I get 30+ tickets to locate a day. I do not have time to come knock AND locate that days 30 tickets. It’s just not practical

      @@ChakatNightspark It’s the contractors responsibility to let the homeowners know. I do not have the homeowners number and I’m not hired by the contractor. I work for the utility companies in the area. If Amerifence is building a fence for a homeowner they call 811 and 811 let’s IPL Comcast and ATT know someone will be digging, those companies send me a ticket to locate that property. I don’t know the homeowners name, number, or when the work is going to be complete. Also, if the homeowner won’t let me on their property to locate the utilities, the utility company will shut off their service until work is complete. It’s a complicated process that involves way more than the locators knowledge of the excavation

      @@ChakatNightspark for every locate there are 2-3 houses that need painted and flagged. I have 48 hours to locate that property and neighboring properties. I get 30 tickets a day. It is always the contractors responsibility to let the homeowners know that I will be coming in X amount of days and when the work will be complete

    For the part of the cable that isn't on the easement and is actually going through private property , just grab an Axe and chop it in half

    I live in a condo complex there was a utility easement on each side of The Back Fence approximately 3 ft. They continually knocked on my front door for access to their easement. I denied them access to their easement through my property. I told him use your easement to access your easement. They're only entitled to use their easement to access their easement not private property.

    Making matters worse, the utility subs it out to a vendor or sub, who in turn brings workers they find in home depot parking lot to your home

    When they bought their home the easement should be recorded on the deed and with a plat filed with the city or county. People don't realize that that easement is owned by the local government. In some areas easements exist in the backyard and along fence lines. I've seen easements along all four sides of rectangular lots, there are entire counties that have those easements completely surrounding a property. Some easements are measured from the centerline of the street, some from face of curb and others from a property line. Easements can vary in width, sometimes from 200 feet down to 5 feet. The only thing you can do is ask to see the work permit to verify the crews have the right to be there. Also on the deed you may have agreed to "right of entry" to give access to the easement.

    • @PhotonBread
      @PhotonBread 2 роки тому

      From my experience, neighborhoods are usually right to enter easements where the homeowner actually owns and is responsible to maintain the property within the easement but the utilities buy or rent the right to place utilities within the easement

    Note to the bonehead reporter, it's called a utility easement. I had one in my backyard Along The Back Fence. They wanted to come through my house to access it. I said no use your easement to access your easement and close the door. So they can't come on your property to access their easement they have to use their easement to access their easement and you can deny them access to their easement from your property. Everybody got it now!.

    • @PhotonBread
      @PhotonBread 4 роки тому +8

      If you deny them access to your easement they will literally take your fence down. His fence is enclosing the easement. I’m a utility locator and if you don’t let me on your property to locate the utility companies like IPL ATT Comcast etc will shut off service to your house until the work is complete

      Imagine only having them as the only option for a provider and then you get blackballed and can't even get service. I know of at least one instance where a home owner had to pay thousands in damages before they could get services.

      Stop acting like you know. We knock on your doors and ask out of courtesy. Those easement rights are for UTILITY WORKERS. Power, cable TV, internet, & telephone services for not just you, but for the whole neighborhood. We want nothing to do w you or your house. We get sent to work on a job on OUR poles. And IF we have caused any damage to your home or property (which I have yet to see at my yard), the company will compensate you no problem. But you wanna be one of those unreasonable people who just make our jobs more difficult. We didn't choose to put the poles in your backyard, blame the city for designing it that way.
      So if a tree grows too high and cuts your power out or if a squirrel chews your internet line or if a company is upgrading your cables from old ass copper to fiber optics, your logic is "access your easements through your easements?" You don't know shit

Ive done underground utilities for the last 10 years . AT&T has fiber optics that run from canada to mexico, ive done jobs where they send out a guy to watch us dig make sure we dont get anywhere near those lines.
