So a standalone that can do both that and pcvr gets less points for a processor than pcvr set that doesnt even have a processor?🤷♂️
Cost and availability are most likely the two biggest factors determining what users purchase.

Why is Field of View overlooked? That is the most important thing for me, i don't care about screen door!

Your video is wonderful as are many others out there. I thank this community. I'm so frustrated though. I'm trying to find a headset that isn't in danger of not being supported, is wired so therefore it's light, and doesn't require a Display Port. It seems every time I get close, there's this threat or issue. I'm planning on getting a gaming computer with a 3070 or better, likely a 3080 or 3080 TI, maybe a 4070, but it won't likely have Display Port. The Quest series are stand-alones and therefore too heavy, Pico 4 may not be supported any longer, Big Bcreen Beyond is pricey but it's tailored for your head and you can't share it with anyone, HP Reverb G2 may have some problems with Windows that I don't understand. The list goes on. Any thoughts out there from anyone? Deeply appreciated.
I feel your pain. I've been using a rift-s for a couple years and am looking for an upgrade. I think I'm going to try a used Quest Pro, it checks most of the boxes for me. I'm hoping the local dimming option will produce blacks I can live with instead of the usually foggy blacks of LCD. I'm pretty sure those graphics cards you mentioned usually come with several displayport plugs. My RTX 3060 has a couple.

Isn't the VR experience also affected by the total angle of the FOV? An ultra-high PPD number could be accomplished by restricting the FOV. Would that be better?

I agree,@@nethiuz9165 . It was really a rhetorical question. I was suggesting that perhaps image quality (in a VR context) should also consider the FOV. Lots of PPD in a small FOV (the binoculars effect) wouldn't be good, but PPD X FOV doesn't tell the whole story either--it's just the total number of pixels. The limit of visual acuity is about 0.5' (minute) of angle, or a PPD of 120. Maybe we could use PPD/120 as a dimensionless quality factor and then multiply that by the FOV to get the overall headset quality for VR.
OK, so for a sense of scale, the Apple Vision PRO has 32 PPD. The latest phones have about 500 pixels per inch, which when you hold them 20" away means that each inch of screen subtends almost 3 degrees of angle, so you are looking at well over 120 PPD. That's why they call the screens Super Retina--your eyes can't see the pixels. To have 120 PPD across a 180 degree FOV we'd need displays with over 20k pixels, so 16k-pixel VR displays will probably be as close to ideal as we'll get.

playstation has pulled off an epic scam with this roll out... it's my own fault, I didn't do enough research, no games, uncomfortable headset, compilated adjustments for a clearer image, no backward play or cross platforming, no non-gaming options... if not for no man sky, total bust!!!
