Building a tow truck bed in about 30 minutes!

- It's finally here! If you've been following my Instagram, you will know I have been working on this project for a while now. The customer just picked it up this past week and was so happy with the final product. The video shows the whole bed building process from the old bed removal to the finished product in a 30 minute video.

@@formidablefabrications The only suggestion I can give you that will help is to get your flat steel for the bed top in one sheet precut. It helps a lot. Hard to handle it but we just welded two small hooks and used the trucks winch to pull it into place. Weld the sides and spot weld underneath. Looks great when its done. We were doing the banjos on top but it looks cleaner under the top sheet. I will try it your way next time. Great vid. Not many people will even touch a wrecker let alone rebuild a whole bed.

Just a suggestion, protect your eyes bro!! One of my very first jobs in a shop when I was maybe 16 or 17 is where I witnessed for the first time someone’s eyeball being severed completely horizontally, the guy was in his late 40s I’d guess and no matter how cool I tried to bring it up, he just refused to take a suggestion from a “stupid kid”…..long story short, that was the last day of his ability to see….lost his vision entirely….best wishes, great looking rollback!

Question: Why didn't they choose to go with Diamond Plate on the surface of the bed?
They actually wanted diamond plate, but I talked them out of it. As good as it looks, a smooth surface is what you really want for a tow truck bed. If you have to winch a disabled car onto the bed that is stuck in park, it has to be able to slide easy, and smooth metal with a little lube makes the job super easy!

Thanks so much! This job was about 7k or so. I did a bunch of other stuff later on that I didn't film, but I think the base price was a around 7k
