Another way to improve sound with speakers is to use sound deadening on the outer door skin. A Cheap way to do it is to get roof valley sticky membrane with the aluminum front from Home Depot or lowes. It helps with reducing road noise as well. I did that to my door and even added it to the back of my door cards. 👍👍

You are suppose to cut half of the lower backside of the foam baffle because when the speaker is producing those notes its using the back side of the steel door panel for its acoustic energy. The baffle shouldn't be used as a speaker enclosure it is designed to keep water out or keeping the water that runs past the window and making its way towards the backside of the speaker leading to rust, corrosion and poor speaker performance.
Wrong application for major difference. These were engineered decades ago for the old style speaker holes that sit under the back window of sedans(in the trunk).
They sounded like they were going to blow your speakers? Look into Passive Radiating Speakers, JBL uses the crap out of it. It's an extremely common technology. These will not blow out your speakers.

You're probably not going to notice much of a difference if you're using it for car speakers. Main reason why it improved sound for me was because it deadens sound from the rear of the speakers, which removes muddiness and tightens the sound. In a car door, there isn't much of a rear for sound to escape from. When you have a speaker in a box, the sound reverberates and in my case I have open holes in the rear so there was sound coming from the front and rear of the cabinet. It helps remove phase cancellation which is more noticeable when you have two speakers inside one cabinet.
Car doors are the worst, sound reflects from the back, even if you add all the best sound deadening and fast rings the speakers aren’t at their full potential because of the size of the opening in the door. So making a small sealed enclosure on the door card then you’ll transform the sound.
These will kill your bass. Most full range car audio speakers are designed as infinite baffle. The whole door (or whole trunk if it's the rear deck) is designed to be the enclosure. You're effectively shrinking the enclosure with these will lower your bass response.
You have to allow air Inside. Your wire hole was too tight. If you made it about 1/4 your speaker would have moved freely. I redid mine and holy cow big difference, yet mine are powered by an amp as well
I have 6 1/2s in thw rear with no box. They are just in the rear panel of the car playing free air. Would these improve the sound? Speakers vehace different in an enclosure than free air so wondering of anyone has any experience conparing. Thanks
Those baffles might not be for the front doors. They are most likely for rear deck 6x9 speaker install cuz there is plenty of air space for that location. You can even cut the back of those baffles for the magnet diameter of the speaker to fit properly.
You're supposed to cut the back of these baffles. They're meant to be trimmed down to fit the depth of your vehicle while still covering the speaker. The reason it sounded like it was going to "blow your speakers" is you didn't have enough air space for your speakers after covering them. This is the same reason some people had an experience where they kill the bass - it's like putting the speakers into very small sealed boxes. Foam baffles should always be trimmed, and when installed right will reduce vibrations and protect the speakers from water. By reducing vibrations, sometimes you can get more bass response out of them as well. I personally prefer silicone baffles over foam, though. A little more expensive, but definitely worth the extra money.

I bought a set of these, I didn't notice any better performance however they should help keeping then dry which is what I was looking for. I am running Hertz brand speakers and they still sound amazing with the Boom Mat baffles!

First of all, they make a shallow version! These are designed to keep out weather. Looks like your weather is not great there, snow in background! Free air are designed to be used without any restriction behind them, some are made for enclosures, and then you have marine, which are completely sealed from weather. Tell us what model and brand your speakers are? I have used baffles since the 80’s in certain situations. They work great when installed properly and in the right situation! They also were around in the beginning for use to eliminate vibration! Before boom mat or similar products existed. They are a must around speakers installed around batteries or areas chemicals could contact the speakers. I guess I should buy a GoPro?
These are ment only to keep your speakers dry. If you want a better sound you need to add sound deadnor and a foam padding on top of that. I did it on my truck doors only plus installed the baffle for water protection, what a difference.
Hello everyone! I’m not an audio engineer but what I did was cut two holes in the doors of my 08 Saab 93 vert and mounted Kenwood 5x9s. I then covered the “outer part” of the door with sound defending adhesives. I bought a stronger amp that puts about 90 rms @ 4ohms x4 (4channel) and they do shake you in your seat. Based on the comments I read I don’t think there is enough room for most aftermarket speakers to preform there best given that in car doors there are a lot of moving parts and road noise. But I also found rockford Fosgate 5.25 speakers and mounted them in the door as well and they do kick pretty hard. Still have to fix the rattles they make 😂 but I’m getting an even stronger amp 115rms x4 @ 4ohms and in theory more power=more noise. It’s hard to enclose them properly even with speaker baffles. Just my 2 cents like I said I’m not an audio engineer but this is my experience.

i put the same ones behind my 6.5's today and i had the exact same experience but worse. the sound was instantly bad, practically all bass dropped out and they became distorted at medium volumes. i was worried my newly installed speaker was broken until i removed the baffle and the sound improved tremendously. waste of money and time trying to make them work.
You should of gotten the slim line foam baffles and if you went with a specific brand I recommend go with the XTC foam baffles over the DEI Boom mat baffles just because they are shallower then the Boom mats and plus from what I researched using the whole foam baffles without cutting at least half of it out on the back side ruins the acoustical sound the speaker its trying to produce. The purpose of using the foam baffles is to protect the speaker from water entering between the door glass and making its way to the back side of the speaker causing corrosion and rust and affecting the performance of the speaker over time.
Lil more clear sounding but barely a difference. But they do look like it depend on the back spacing. Kinda look they're made to give it that sub box look 👍🏽
Yeah my 1990 f150 those would fit beautifully in the round ones at least not the 6x9s the holes for the speaker are super deep might have to try these out you can make custom cones on the inside of your door panel with a gasket to fit around your speaker perfectly just rub chalk on the top and find a block of material n glue it down to your panel cut the speaker hole out roughly by eye slap it on touch the speaker to find perfect fit cut it out slide it back on I used a big block of x grade foam

I do Arduino projects. I put hydrometer in the clam shell door and my boom mat because science. The inside of the door is like a vapor sauna in comparison to the boom mat chamber as I expected.
It wasn’t a pointless video. It confirmed everything I thought I already knew about these. I’d use them as water diverters only, cutting the back completely out.
They keep the water that runs down the inside of the door from rotting the speakers. The moisture in the south is so bad that it ruins anything that's not a tree plant grass or bush. In cars with air conditioning the interior gets dehumidifier and the speakers afterwards when the vehicle is left out in the humidity stand a chance of staying dry.ive had the cardboard door cards rot away and had to make new ones out of metal and reuse the upolstry on the metal door cards. I don't like to put speakers in doors unless the car came that way because of the water that gets inside the doors.it rains all the time in the south.moisture destroys the car stereos in my car collection and car horns always seem to not last in the south east.
Might buy better speakers. That's were you hear the world of difference.

I had 6x9 in car exactly as you said free hanging and these in my opinion helped allot not as shallow sounding and less muddy

door \ dash speakers are designed to be run infinite baffel.... they will not perform in an enclosed environment
I have a problem with the bass droning on my 2011 F150 front door speakers even crossed over at 200hz. Will be soundproofing the doors next.
They would have easily been modified if you actually know what your doing. Also these are great for many cars, they keep water off your door speakers.

I'm mid-way through replacing all my factory speakers with these same model of g00fy Scosche's. 6x9's and 6.5"s .
can't have good sound quality when you have cheap speakers to begin with, buy some Hertz or at least some kickers then you hear a difference
Speakers are speakers at some point, more money doesn't equal better sound. The biggest sound quality maker comes from the music source bitrate.
