I went through two Dark Matter rods and am still using my Nexus after 3 years. It’s easy to accidentally break the tips of Dark Matter rods but Nexus is pretty durable.
I just picked up a jigging world night ranger model. Held that up with the nexus rod and I thought I’d get better action with the night ranger than the nexus. So far I’m very happy with the night ranger. Extremely light! Unfortunately the Skinner rods were all sold out when I was looking at them. Keep catching m’ up!
what do you do when the waves are to rough for those small bucktails? I do a high- low rig but wanted a good suggestion for a rod when I have to use 7 or 8 ounces to feel the ground. help
If it's that rough, typically the Fluke bite goes to hell. I usually try to avoid area like that and seek calmer water. If I do end up fishing in rougher seas, I switch to a ball head on a spinning rod. 4 to 6oz or I use a single teaser with gulp and a cannon ball sinker. I prefer the bucktail but you get less drag and more feel with the more compact rig. Great question.
I fish Delaware water which is 100 plus ft for fluke I never fished a bait caster before which fluke gear is recommended need rod as well as a bait caster
Try a Penn Fathom 300LP, jigging world nano hybrid H, and 30lb ocean devil braid. Magic and more than enough line ( will take 300m) for those conditions.
Have you tried the Black Hole Challenger 731M by chance? I hear a lot about that one as well... but living in PA I can never get my hands on the different rods to check them out. Thx!
@@nextdriftfishing I was messing with it yesterday just checking the drag by pulling line out and yeah it's a solid set up I have the exact set up as the video white reel blue line what weight bucktails were you using?
Appreciate your content, the videos are helpful. Would you say the Dark Matter is similar to Nexus XH just stiffer at tip? How big a difference between the Nexus H and XH? I have a Nexus H and am contemplating cutting a few inches off. Thanks.
Hi John! The new Skinner Dark Matter is a completely different rod than the Nexus. The balance, action and components are all improvements. The biggest difference between the Nexus H and XH are the tip and backbone. The XH has a lot more firmness in the back bone and is about 20% tip as opposed to the 30% tip with the Nexus H. If you cut the Nexus H down, you'll have a very similar tip action to the Dark Matter. I hope that helps and thanks again for watching!
Great question Googan. Alot of it has to do with the boat position and the direction of the wind. Angling the boat at the right position with the wind will cut down on your speed and direction. That will also help keep your line infront of you. Having the appropriate weight bucktail also helps along with the line diameter. I use 10lb braid which has a smaller diameter and less water resistance. I also reset my bucktail a lot. After three clicks of the thumb bar, I reel up and reset. I hope that helps! Tha KS for the question and for watching!

The diawa harrier rods are tough to beat for around a 100$ and they come with a lifetime warranty !
own it love it!
I have both rods, can't wait to try them out this year.
Which one you like for 6oz. Bucktails?
I liked my Skinner rod so much, I picked up a second one.
Thanks! Just getting in to fishing here in the sound, hitting the porgi population pretty hard. Looking to get into fluke in the nearby Noank area.
What brand reel is that? Model#?

I've personally found the Jigging World Hybrid rod to come relatively close to the power and sensitivity...... but to each their own 👍

what spining rod would you use and what size?
with that intro I half expected to hear art bell come on
Finally! Someone recognized it! There's a back story to that. Maybe someday we'll make a video about its origins! Nice work!
