Just got my masters from Juilliard and am starting to teach a lot during the pandemic, this is the best vibrato video I've seen so far. Danke, Maestro. Going to send to my students!
BIG Vibrato fan: Thank you for making this wonderful cello video. I was gifted a cello and started playing it in late September, 2020 as a hobby to deal with isolation, masks and Covid times. I played violin as a kid and was a high beginner or low intermediate at best. I had a little Suzuki and a jazz violin teacher at school. I LOVE the cello. My vibrato and fingerings went into auto pilot as I imitate others. I love to vibrato on the Cello. I need to develop good cello habits now as I am still new and about 1/4 through Suzuki Cello 2 play along (I love play along). I am now trying to teach myself 2d position and I have not needed cello tape but I have purchased it just in case. I see playing 2nd cello position on my G string as an opportunity to improve my vibrato. I am teaching myself as I work 12 hour shifts and can not practice regularly. I vaguely remember vibrato on the violin and am adjusting to the grandeur of vibrato on the Cello. Thank you for your wonderful vibrato techniques. I am getting compliments on my Cello playing. Who knew I could play a Cello ?
I don't think I'll be able to vibrato for a few years, I've just started playing at 51, but that's not my problem. My problem is learning separateness of hand...but I will get it eventually. This tutorial was immensely helpful when that glorious day arrives.☺️
Brilliant video, and great demonstration of different (wrong) methods! I'm learning vibrato recently and this video helps me to understand how to relax my arm.
Very informative! Albeit that I've been playing Cello for six years, it's good to keep yourself in check by watching these kinds of videos. Nice to also hear your voice one on one.
Thank you Georg, would you also do videos on other basics such as cello position, left hand and right hand playing positions? You touched on them a little with the lesson on vibrato and I'm hoping you would do more.
Does anyone have any tips for keeping your 4th finger relaxed when doing vibrato? Mine is always straight and stiff, which makes it hard to vibrate. However I don't know how to fix this problem.
Wonderful to live in a time where such incredible instruction is available to all! Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge!

Thank you for the tip to first play a note without, then with and then again without vibrato to prevent the finger from sliding away from the note.
Outstanding teacher.
Thank you
Thank you Georg. I think that you made me see the light at the end of my vibrato tunnel with this video
The best explanation i ever heard.thank you Maestro
Thanks for being such a great cello myth buster! Great lesson! Thank you

I like how you describe 1st finger vibrato; I do that the same way and find it much easier moving the hand back as you describe.
I'm an adult learner and found vibrato very challenging. But your instructions is helpful and encouraging. Thank you from Austin TX.
Wonderful advice. Many thanks.
Thanks so much. Makes so much sense!❤️
