    My caregiver verbally abused me for 2 years after I had a stroke at 24. I wish people would be more aware this issue doesn't just happen to older individuals.

      Caregivers services and health care insurance care coordination departments are infested with these sociopath and psychopath abusers.

    I've been disability advocate for 20 years. If only 70% are reporting I would say 95% are experiencing some form of physical, sexual, verbal, financial, psychological abuse. P.S. nobody is more a specialist on the needs of people with disabilities than the individuals themselves. I wish Journalists would stop getting info about disabled people from non disabled people

    I'm physcialy disabled and on SSI. I live in an abusive realtionship with someone who just feels like an evil room mate. But fincialy I can't leave. I'd be homeless and disabled. I NEED someone to help me out. But no one will let me live with them even if I pay them some rent. I tried sheltors(they're packed because of Covid),I tried getting into shared living but it's too exspensive! I'm stuck in a toxic situation! My Physchatrist told me to go to a nursing home,but I will not because too many nursing homes abuse too. I'm soooooo stuck and feel wothless and hopeless!

      I'm so sorry you have to go through being with someone who is abusive. I have an alcoholic who lives with me and who's also abusive to me when intoxicated. And, what makes it really hard is, I'm almost completely blind due to a rare eye disorder called choroideremia. ( No cure either) If this individual does not leave my home soon, I'm going to have paper work drawn up in order to have this thing removed from my home. I pray you find a safer home to go to. And, never give up my friend. God bless you 🙏

      Becky hun just go to the nursing home believe me it's so much better than what your going through now. I'm going abuse too and I'm considering moving into a nursing home I'm done and I'd rather live in a nursing home than with my abusive parents

    People with Disabilities do have rights but it’s hard to report when we don’t fully understand

    Abuse of the disabled isn't always in regards to sexual abuse nor are the victims failing to report it either. These sadistic predators are everywhere and when the victim reaches out for help, the abuser is protected and never held accountable while the victim gets ignored and dismissed by covert abusers within all area of the system and especially within non profit organizations making claims that they are there to help them.

      Alaska is for these types of predators - and everyone is prey. The governor is raising three daughters in the number one rape state. They claim 30% less crime here because they take 30% less reports. State troopers will literally spit in the face of older disabled women to chase them out of law enforcement detachment so they cannot leave reports
      This is how they use female state troopers hyphen to spit in the faces and scream at disabled women who were assaulted, raped, shot at, losing everything they own do predator landlords
      In alaska, a female with a male landlord becomes part of his property under the law.
      Leases, car titles, any documentation doesn't matter. They turn every female into cockroaches here. And the females are the ones doing it to other females.

    it wouldn’t be such a giant problem if people with disabilities were both given medical care early that helps them understand their vulnerabilities AND then given adequate money to survive independently. how can people possibly safely survive yet alone have a chance of staying safe at poverty levels that equate with neither. the vast majority instead are simply thrown to the wolves and that’s the absolute truth.

    My spouse is an asshole. He wants to control every penny of my disability check. Just verbal as he knows my arms still work just fine and he knows he wouldn't win if he tried to hit me. I stick around because in tough. I won't give up. What bothers me most is the hate I feel. I've never hated anyone.

    The thing is ...most people don't care and Law makers don't want to pursue this problem because there are no means of help or care, they will help them with, How do I know? Because I am physically disabled, and am in a precarious situation that is a housing situation that's unstable. I'm being emotionally, verbally and now physically abused by a family member and have no housing to go to, no shelters to go to. I'm consistently be berated verbally daily and calling the cops will only have them come to say one will have to leave. Guess who? I'm out of State from other family members who really don't want the responsibility of a physically disabled family member and housing looks bleak as it is. So yes, it's a nightmare. That's why most goes unreported. Unless it's a abusive resulting death or severe neglect that is so severe that it can't be hidden , most people turn a blind eye and just offer words of ..." We'll pray for you."

    Most abused people don't understand what's happening to them is abuse, we often think it's normal

    • @KafkaShoppe
      @KafkaShoppe 2 місяці тому +1

      Or at least are conditioned to accept it as a new normal because of the limited options and resources.
