    It is probably quite unrealistic to expect anyone to develop a meaningful insight into the development of 17th century science without having an interest in the relationship between the cultural concerns that were prevalent in Newton's day and the controversies that his discoveries produced.
    How exactly did Bentley use Newton's Principia as a basis for ascribing celestial powers to matter, such that matter contained and expressed the force of gravity?
