Today we take a look at PFF's DB ranking for the upcoming 2024 NFL season. We've previously looked at a team ranking and receiving corp ranking that both had the Packers underrated. Will they be underrated again for their DB group?

Congrats on 55k! Best packers UA-camr on here🔥
I think #8 is fair when you consider there are a lot more question marks than just CB. Will McKinney be as good as he has been, or do we see a Landon Collins/Eddie Jackson type drop-off? Will the Valentine/Ballentine duo continue to play above their expectations given their history and draft spots? Will Javon Bullard and the other rookie safeties be able to contribute right away in a significant, positive way? Will Eric Stokes return to form given how much time he's missed? Is Jeff Hafley the guy? Lots of question marks but TONS of potential.
This is all guess work. We're unproven and untested. So much has changed but I believe we're going to impress.
I couldn't agree more.
Congrats Bas great Packer content keep doing what your doing keep up the great work!!! 👍 Go Pack Go 🏈
PFF is so sketchy to me. It feels lazy and completely removes the eye test. But as a society we have become so dependent on analytics and statistics. The problem with statistics is you can mathematically bend the data in any direction you need to support what you hope to see or want to project. For me, it’s just one measurement or starting point towards the whole picture. But on its own is a flawed system. Great video though as always.
You’re not wrong. It’s a tool with zero nuance, but people treat it like gospel
It’s actually the most accurate statistic for how well a player actually plays. A lot of people don’t understand how grades are done. It’s not an algorithm. Look up how it works and then start calling it lazy.
@@basedWisco715exactly, a lot of their metrics are subjective and based on opinion. As of now it’s just a strong brand name with a faulty product.
@@ninjalbatross I think a lot of people latched on to PFF because of the rise in popularity in sabermetrics. They want deeper stats like that for football, but they neglect to realize that sabermetrics is mathematically based on already acknowledged counting stats with some era adjustments. PFF is essentially binary subjective “win/loss per play” metrics
It’s a subjective tool, just like me watching games and grading players based on the eye test. I just like my opinions more a lot of the time. PFF does seem to do a decent job with projections at certain positions though, like for O lineman
Don’t let math scare you.
I am confident the DB room is majorly upgraded over last year so I expect top 15 for the Defense this year at worst. I am expecting significant improvement in Carrington Valentine. I am expecting at least an average Jaire Alexander year. Looks like the best safety room in many years.
Nixon is our Special teams guy. Yall remember Chris Banjo
can you please make a vid of jeff hafleys defensive scheme and what we can expect to see a lot of in terms of blitz packages and coverages
Congrats on 55k subs man
Rasul was actually legit. He was a pickin machine for us. I was sorry to see him go. Yiadom is a headscratcher
Congrats! Bas! for 50K plus!!!
First one here love your work moved to Minnesota have to find how to watch gb this year
I live in Iowa we get a lot of packer games
I'm so excited to see what X and Jaire are gonna do together. I'm thinking 10+ ints between the two of them. I'm also super excited about Bullard. He's got that dawg in him
Keep up the good work bas best packer content anywhere
I think the Packer's defense being rated #8 is fair. The biggest thing I want to see from our defense is making tackles and not just running them out of bounds, or just simply pushing them out of bounds. Jaire did a lot of just putting his shoulder down and hitting them, and sometimes he would miss and the ball carrier gets more yards. I am excited to see a more aggressive defense from the Packers, and after the season I think Packers fans are gonna wish we got Jeff Hafley before the 2023 season.
You should do all time packers tier list on each position, so much greatness
I'm interested to see this new defense in action and how they handle motion. It's gonna be a FUN year.
One thing Hafley has mastered is the DB room! Should the LBs hold up this defence will be our best in years baby
The Willie Nelson hat is 🔥🔥
Just saw him last night!
Thanks for all you do, man!
I wish we would have done more to address the CB position… that’s the ONLY weak spot potentially imo… if stokes doesn’t pan out or if someone gets hurt for a while, we’re screwed at the corner position… yet they won’t sign Gilmore for ONE season as an insurance policy, a damn good one still!! He played above average last year with Dallas and would be worth the 7-10 million for one season
That Willie Nelson hat go crazy😮💨
Saw him last night
I really miss Rasul 😩 I just know he would’ve balled out with this new Dc system. Go Pack Go 💚💛
Always putting out good content
They are listed in the top 10 I think that is good. I'm excited to see what a new defense would look like. Packers struggled on defense with Joe Barry.
A lot of injuries I don't know if you guys know this but when they had Eric Stokes and we gave up 30 points each time so I think Valentine's should start think of it as this who has the better first year
The eagles and lions both drafted 2 studs a piece at CB…. Idk why we didn’t take one of them…
I like Jaire alot but this defense needs Stokes... His physical play is needed with all these big receivers trying to be the next Julio...
8th for DBs, but only 14th for WRs? Feels like that is the wrong way around, particularly given question marks at CB.
8 is fair. Could be lower or higher depending on the opinions of what someone wants to project.
12:10 im a huge fan of evan williams and loved the draft pick, but if theres one thing he cant do is tackle. Watching tape it seems like he cant make a decision until its to late and the ballcarrier slips right by him.
PFF is definitely not Impressive.
WR group is Top 10 Proj no doubt
DB room should be nowhere
close to top 10 Proj.
I think top 10 is good for DBs
Sounds about right.
Enough talking. Bring back Football!!!
I want rasul back 😭
It could go either way.
W video
Packers is Jaire Alexander
Steelers is TJ Watt
Once again this team continues to be disrespected. Nothing new for the Packers.
But that's a positive because this team has ALWAYS excelled when they were underestimated!
It's when they've been favored & expected to win they have been miserable failures.
Two Hall of Fame QBs for 30 years plus but only 2 Superbowl victories to show for it.
Jordan Love proved last season when he protects the ball he is an absolute baller.
With the master Tom Clements returning to coach him another season things look bright!
Can he turn Jordan Love into another great ball control QB as he did with Aaron Rodgers?
Remember he helped Brett Favre decrease his interceptions & become a HOF QB!
Kyler Murray the other young QB he mentored has turned into a decent QB for a midget!
First half of the 2023 season when Jordan was throwing interceptions he struggled greatly.
Down the stretch in the last 9 games he had 18 tds with only 1 interception & balled!
If Love can continue to protect the ball this team will be a serious Superball contender.
Next step in Love's progression now is to prove he can play in the clutch when it counts most!
He chocked late in games throwing interceptions when he needed a TD to win those games.
He did that also at the end of the San Francisco game as well. A team GB should have beaten.
Had Matt run the ball with Jones instead of throwing 6 incompletions on 1st downs 1st half.
Had he done so they'd beaten the Lions & KC for the second time last season to win the SB!
Let's just hope Matt has learned to lean into his run game & will run on 1st downs this year.
The Packers struggled start of last season winning the time of possession battle each game.
Matt is a offensive passing guru for certain but I sure wish he'd lean in his run game more!
Matt needs to do a much better job of controlling the clock & winning the time of possession.
This team made all the right moves during this off season. Kudos to Gutekunst & his staff!
They added & signed two premium big money free agents in Xavier McKinney & Josh Jacobs.
Gutekunst looks like he had another excellent draft grabbing some big names again in 2024.
He certainly looks like he hit it out of the park on day two grabbing Cooper, Bullard & Lloyd!
If this draft class is as good as last two were this team should absolutely excel this season.
They also let the underachievers walk (Darnell Savage, Josiah Deguara & Jon Runyan Jr).
Mr. Royce Newman your next! Time to cut this stiff which will gain GB 3.1 million vs the cap!
Stokes & Myers better excel this season or they also should be cut loose end of this season.
Next draft should be about replacing Kenny Clark & Preston Smith. Two Packer greats.
But both are aging & their games deteriorating. Those contracts are just too expensive now.
Youth makes more sense now so I would assume this is on Gutekunst's radar in 2025 draft.
This offense should be an absolute juggernaut this season. Improving with experience.
The backfield & strong running game can only compliment that deep WR/TE core they have.
If they can add 2 solid O line players with Elgton Jenkins & Zach Tom it can be elite again.
GB's offense is as potent as any team in this league bar none! No defense that scares me.
It's the addition of the new defensive coaches, a new defensive philosophy & scheme is key.
GB injected majority of it's draft capital into it's defense & O line where it was needed most.
I'm a very excited to see them pick up E Cooper a bonified run stuffing specialist in the draft.
Top ILB in this draft! With an improved back end should be able continue to focus on the run.
The Packers must prove this season they can finally stop the run game vs any team they play.
4 games last season vs run teams - ATL, PITT, DET, NYG all of whom went 200+ on ground!
This team needs a top 10 defense if they want to compete for the Superbowl this season.
That new backend looks to have the potential to be a top 5 secondary provided Jaire is back.
Alexander needs to earn that big fat paycheck after 2 injury riddled seasons & subpar play.
This unit needs to get turnovers. Something GB have always been leaders at in this league.
Past couple of seasons GB have struggled winning the turnover battle. That needs to change.
It's time for Rich Bisaccia to prove his worth! Packers special teams must excel this year.
With the return of Tyler Davis the Packers best special teams player two season ago.
Plus the addition of strong teams specialist in the draft & also resigning of most key teamers.
He has disputably the best returner in the NFL in Keisean Nixon new kick rules should help.
It's time for this unit to be among the league leaders & not underachieve once again!
Anders Carlson must improve in year two with more consistency in his kicking game.
Remember he was perfect thru first 7 games last season before struggling rest of the year.
This team should end up in the NFC championship game if they play to their potential.
Where they will likely face the SF 49ers their kryptonite! That needs to change in 2024-25!
Go Pack Go!
I generally trust PFF grades and analytics, but these ranking articles are total clickbait fluff pieces by authors simping for whoever signed the sexiest free agent. Packers are top 10 _if_ everybody has their _best-case_ outcome. Realistically, they're gonna be in the 15-20 range when all is said and done.
Too high. Rank us 32! These mean absolutely nothing. Actually, it may bring unwanted attention. Nobody will remember this in a week.
To me the secondary for the Niners was their weak spot. The front 7 was their strength.
Nixon is a returner, that is all. Aside from his Int vs Mahomes, he's a very weak corner. That's leaves Jaire, Stokes(?), C Valentine (Unproven but I'm hopeful), Nixon (Terrible), and C Ballentine (Unproven but high hopes). I'd like to mention I think King can play NFL ball. My hope is they give him reps and use Bullard at slot.
Jaire better have a better year… massive packers fan but imo he’s our worst contract on the team by FAR
These dudes know nothing, Seattle above us at all???😂😂
I rank Green Bay last in every category with the worst roster ever.
And I'll hold up the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the season.
Accolades and awards are for losers.
Trophies are for champions.
Dissed is pissed and pissed wins championships.
