@@Aeunax123 I just meant the album aged well and people tended to understand and like the album more after the tour. Of course some always liked it, like me.
Reputation isn't some revenge or antagonist album in it's core, it's a love story. The real theme of the album is: Finding a true love in your darkest times, most of the songs are about Joe. It's my favorite album of all time, every song is a masterpiece, the tracklist is perfect, the music videos were perfect and the era overall was fun. I think the era was still big, she scored a number 1 hit + Rep sold 1,2B in first week, Rep Tour is highest grossing tour in american history. It's very clear that public and critic reception of Reputation was influenced by Taylor's reputation at the time. Numerous critics said that Reputation is a good album and they gave it a lower score just because of Taylor's image at the time. Same goes with general public. I think Reputation really was an album she needed to make in her career. The overall era definitely helped Taylor in many ways: it cleaned all fake people around her from her life, she finally found a good man who truly loves her, it gave her a reason to go into very different direction and try new things, genres and styles, and it definitely changed her as a person. She doesn't care that much what people think about her anymore, it helped her to win against her eating disorder, it gave her confidence to show her political views and gave her confidence to leave her label that was only holding her back. I honestly think the era could've been bigger if there was more promo, but i get it why there wasn't. Interviews were out of question because only thing they would've asked her would be Kimye and other scandals, so it definitely was better for her to not give any interviews. I think she could perform little more before tour but it's ok. Leaving Big Machine Records had also influence there. I think she could choose singles better or rather release more singles. I think singles for this album should'e been: Lead Single: Look What You Made Me Do 2nd Single: I Did Something Bad 3rd Single: ...Ready For It? 4th Single: Delicate 5th Single: Getaway Car 6th Single: Don't Blame Me 7th (Last) Single: End Game
i feel like Ready For It could've been the lead single just for the title, and the song hits hard too. But LWYMMD is a perfect introduction to the new era.
@@Greybell ready for it I love as a song and it could have worked but I think like you said it doesn’t introduce the era as well but it’s an awesome opener
@@naomi.cannibal RFI? is perfect opener (easily her best btw), but as an era, it is LWYMMD. - it desribes the album nicely - it is catchy, so it can do well on charts and lead the era successfuly - it's MV is one of the all time best - it's an amazing song overall Delicate is the song that tells what Rep is about perfectly tho
@@filipmarinkovic6281 I think we’re saying the same thing! Like ready for it worked perfect as the album opener but I get why it wasn’t the lead single. Delicate is one of my faves on the album, like it’s just one of those songs that makes you get quiet and think about it and appreciate it
Before reputation, I liked Taylor, but, the media played her out. So its not like I disliked her, but she was just everywhere. But my daughter wanted see her, I took her to the reputation tour and I was blown away at her performance. I was instantly a Swiftie. And we were fortunate enough to get tickets to Eras tour. She is a phenomenal performer!!!
@@Violet316 Haha... It was instantly!!! And I've been to many concerts in my day, mostly rock like Metallica, Korn, Limp Bizket, Linkin Park (RIP Chester), you get it. My husband was texting me asking how the show was, my response was 'she is so good! I can't believe how great she is. I'm officially a Swiftie'. He was like whoa...that good?
Yeah this is kinda my experience as well- once I saw the Red tour... it was over after that. Weird because I was gifted the tickets kinda randomly. I wasn't SUPER into Taylor Swift, though I enjoyed her music. Eras will be next level.
In my opinion Reputation is her second best album after 1989, but her best era. The way she came back and owned being a villain in the public eye, the Easter eggs she gave for LWYMMD, it was en entertaining era that sparked even more interest from people who aren't even Swifties, like myself. Truly an amazing era.
Do you think that LWYMMD was a perfect lead single to introduce a new era? Cause I personally think that somehow it was. There was no other song that's capable to bring back her reputation while giving a middle finger to everyone who hated her at that time, That was just powerful. In my opinion, LWYMMD is definitely her best lead single (but not the best song compare to the other lead singles).

Musically wise some might say it's not her best album but the impact and everything that happened around it made it one of her most iconic and im not even a swifty fan But reputation and 1989 was taylor at her best. Those 2 albums made me pay more attention to her.
I didn't really care for Taylor Swift until this album came out and that's what made me change my mind and some particular reason I like how she did this album even though for her reasons that she was mad LOL but this is the only album that I have of hers to this day
Love reputation. It’s one of my top favorites from Taylor. I still listen to most of the songs even 5 years later. I think it’s a better album than midnights.
A couple of points. A follow up, even though you mentioned Kim Kardashian edited the recorded call, that a video of the full call was eventually leaked proving Taylor wasn't lying might have been appropriate. As for sales, streaming must be factored in as less and less people were buying albums. Some streaming stats even put Reputation over 1989.
Reputation was like her blackout era was for Britney, cause Britney came out with piece of me to take a jab back at the scummy paparazzi and haters, but also describes how she felt about the media, Kanye, and all the hate she got, her documentary on Netflix was sooooo good!
as a casual fan from her red era, reputation was such a shock at the time but despite the very different visuals from what we're used to from her, the fact that it was barely promoted (which was intentional on Taylor's part) and the lead single being really meh, the album really is a trip that's worth listening to (even more so for those who had loved Taylor before rep era).
reputation is my second most favorite album from taylor! evermore being my first but they are really tied at the end of the day. it really is a masterpiece and it holds my favorite taylor song (delicate)! her comeback with rep really showed how versatile and flexible she is with her music and what she can do 🖤

I think the album Reputation was about revenge, karma, self-confidence, being hated for nothing and eventually the evildoer gets what he deserves. On the one hand, it was about his love that emerged during his darkest and most chaotic period.
What's interesting about Reputation is that, despite not being a flop when it came out, it still felt underrated by the public and even some of her own fans. But thankfully it's been getting more love recently and the Eras Tour is definitively helping.
Hi Naomi since you mentioned “1989” in the beginning could you talk about “1989” Next? I’d really like to hear your take on the album and I know it’s one of the biggest albums of all time but I have never heard anyone talk about it and I’d like to hear someone’s take on it and it’s Era
My favorite TS album. Hands down. I was a huge fan of her debut album, but didn't explore too much between that one and RED. I liked RED. I need to go back and listen to those albums now that I'm a huge fan. Anyway, Before reputation 1989 was my favorite album. I liked how clever Rep was and the fact that she played this character (me being a theatre and drama kid) I was here for it! Plus the songs were amazing. Definitely no skips. My favorites were New Year's Day (man,....breathtaking), Delicate, I Did Something Bad (so psyychhooo lol) Don't Blame Me, and ...Ready For It? I'm super into dark soundscapes so it was definitely my cup of tea. what a time
Reputation made me a stan of her, and I think it is superior to 1989. It's a shame that aggressive, dark edged pop albums usually get paid DUST by the Grammys and awards like that. It shows how empty and meaningless they are. Literally all her records were nominated except this one, and ironically, this is my first or second favorite. Some of the best songs of her career are on this record in my opinion....the ones about her love that is hidden behind closed walls. So, so, so good. The anger, the disappointment, the chaos in the music was so real and it was absolutely delicious.
Reputation and it's tour I think do standalone but it definitely helps to understand all the context for why and how that era was run the way it was and why it was important for Taylor Swift to make that album. I do think reputation has aged far better than some critics thought it would and that's down to it not only addressing her media persona and the 2016 drama but having the linear storyline of falling in love during your darkest times. It's a top 3 TS album for me personally
The beauty of reputation is that it’s so high concept it often goes over peoples heads. The fact that she was called Regina George then sampled the song from the “Regina isn’t actually a nice girl” scene in mean girls is just proof she’s a mastermind, pun intended
rep is my fav pop album from her and i'll defend it with my LIFE !!! im so lucky i got to attend the rep tour because it was truly a life changing experience. this era will always hold such a special place in my heart.
When I am not depressed ie don't have red tv on repeat and I feel like REALLY hyped up, rep is my second fav ts album right after lover (WHICH IS AN AMAZING ALBUM IDC WHAT PEOPLE SAY). Rep was my first ts album and was what got me into her. It will forever remain in my heart ❤️❤️❤️ My fav song from rep is king of my heart
GOD i loved the rep era, i became a slight swiftie in 1989 but then when reputation came out, good LORD i was hooked so quickly. i love how she went from such a innocent love song girl to a “fuck u” girl practically over night 😭
rep is my fav album ever. she ate everyone up and didnt even blink.. bitches was pressed and I love the dark music style we don't get enough of it sadly made me feel like a bad bish
No shade this is one of my favorite eras by Taylor …. It was great after 1989 just for the time and to prove a point but lover of course is the actual follow up to 1989 ijs but reputation may be my fav if not for 1989
Rep is for sure my fav TS album! It even is in my top10 albums of all time. This album was responsible for making care about TS since Fearless and I never stopped since. I even have two t-shirts with Rep logo. Since it came out in late 2017 I consider it also a 2018 album and it was the one I listened to the most at the time. I can't barely wait for the release of the Taylor's version of Rep ♥♥♥
love your eras analyzed videos! it would be really cool to see a video for janet jackson’s 2004 damita jo. it’s one of janet’s best albums and a 2000s classic but was overshadowed by the super bowl incident (which was completely blown out of proportion and blamed on janet with the industry blackballing her)
Excellent video!!! I'm in my late 40s and have become more and more a fan of TS since she emerged on the scene in her country days. She is truly a force in her industry and she's a fantastic business person too. Huge fan. And I'm now a fan of yours!
I can remember I heard Delicate on the radio in the car & thought why is this chick speaking my life. I couldn’t no longer hate TSwifty & have been a swiftie ever since. I go hard for Reputation and all its production. No skips for sure but my All time fave tracks are So it goes, TIWWCHNT (cuz the way she says darling sounds like Kanye) and call it what you want. She actually has never disappointed me & my musical appetite.
Great video as always, Naomi! I've been waiting for an analysis on Reputation - I love this album and I listened to it so much while writing my thesis, it helped me get through it.
great video as always, reputation is the best album of taylor today, so diverse, so vulnerable and courageous, I love it and I will never get bored of it
"Some viewed the album as a cashgrab." >1989 has collectible polaroids randomly packaged with the album >Reputation has collectible magazine editions >Lover has 4 deluxe versions >Folklore has 7 alternate covers >You have to buy Midnights 4 times to make a clock and a 5th time for the 3am bonus tracks Taylor wouldn't possibly try milking her fans for money.
Reputation is her best complete album in my opinion. It’s so well crafted and builds on itself in ways her other albums don’t. I only skip Look What You Made Me Do 😂 It’s always so surprising to me that it didn’t get nominated for Grammies. Great video!
only three tracks exuded the revenge side: i did something bad, LWYMMD, TIWWCHNT. it's highkey a missed opportunity she didn't go all in on the revenge aspect of this album.
I remember when rep came out I didn’t like the album - not because I wasn’t a ‘Stan’ but because it was so different to the country sound I loved at the time. Now? It’s one of my favourite albums. And also, have always will always be #TeamTaylor. Kanye who? 🐍
I feel like Rep lately has been an album that a lot of people, myself included, wasn't into at first but years later end up really enjoying it and acknowledging it as such an iconic era for her
I got to agree gurl. This is one of her top albums that I listen to. It’s hard to pick a fave of hers but I return to this album all the time. This album was absolutely essential for her. It healed her from all the drama. She had to get it out no matter what people said (hence reputation) . She took back control with this album. Very good review!
@@naomi.cannibal i'm so happy! i love this video so much especially how in-depth you go about her era & actually explain it , not a lot i've seen other creators do! absolutely loved this vid
Ashamed to say i hated on taylor during this era and bought into the wave. But as someone who stanned her before (fearless-red era) and the again last year with red tv, i feel like rep was a long time coming, but just was prompted/coincided with the kimye thing. but rep has aged SPECTACULARLY
During 2016-2017 I had no connection with pop news and stuff so I didn’t even know what happened to Taylor and Kanye, or that she took a break for a year ..so when rep came out, the new sound felt like too much for me. I was still naively waiting for her to bring country Taylor back.. but as the years passed and even after the rep tour this album sky rocketed up my list. It’s the biggest grower for me and just feels so special to me now. I guess it’s a testament to where a lot of us were at in life at the time and how things have changed.
It’s my fav album and i really think iy was the most important era of her career. Without the album or LWYMMD taylor could’ve stayed “cancelled” and on the hate train. My fav is Delicate. DWOHT and CIWWYW are close too and these 3 songs are my fav songs of her whole discography! This album was just perfect and a genius response + it has 0 skips
I didn't care much for Taylor Swift musically before reputation except for some hits but was never a fan of her music. This is one of the only albums of hers I like aside from Midnight. Maybe it's because I am more into electropop and dark moody sounds. My favorites are Delicate ,Ready for it,Getaway car while her title track was my least favorite. As for how she used this album against her onlime hate, could she had ignored it and moved on,sure. But she made Reputation as an fuck you to Kanye and Kim and to the media as a if you see me as a villian then I will play a villian.
I really enjoyed your analysis of Reputation. Ifell in love with T.Swift's music the first time I heard Tim McGraw in 2006 and after 1989, I could not wait for another Pop album. When I first heard Reputation I was disappointed, and wasn't sure if I like dark Taylor, but it grew on me and today it is the album I play most.
Kanye was mentally unwell, feel bad for him, he's unaware of his actions, he is not for everyone. Taylor got the bad end of it cos Kanye was undiagnosed. People like him don't know what they're doing & how it effects others. Cos in their mind they feel what they're doing is right. I mean even looking at him we know he's in pain and unwell, it's obvious. Not saying about talents here cos talented people can be short of cupcakes. But it's sad that Tay didn't see it coming. It's obvious actually. Anyone here live with mentally unstable people would know, at any time they can turn their back on you. It's how they are even with a degree in Nuclear. Felt so bad for Tay, she didn't deserve that. She learned to understand that certain people you gotta put boundaries. Not everyone is buddy2. Those people are never trustworthy. I know firsthand. Unless they go in therapy and take their meds, or stay in the hospital ward. It's for their own good. Their danger to themselves and others, depends.
I love your channel:) The video format and editing is so good. It's interesting to watch, but I don't miss anything important if I listen while driving, either.
I wasnt a fan of Taylor before but when I watched rep I instantly turned into a swiftie. Been supporting her since, I dont care what other people think. Bought all of her albums and a lot of her merch too. Cant wait to see her in concert this august!

rep is my fav pop album from her and i'll defend it with my LIFE !!! im so lucky i got to attend the rep tour because it was truly a life changing experience. this era will always hold such a special place in my heart.
It will forever remain in my heart ❤️❤️❤️
My fav song from rep is king of my heart
GOD i loved the rep era, i became a slight swiftie in 1989 but then when reputation came out, good LORD i was hooked so quickly.
i love how she went from such a innocent love song girl to a “fuck u” girl practically over night 😭
Yesss she had me paying attention in this era!! It was so fun to follow
reputation was what made me a swiftie!! i was just a casual fan before but i remember being gagged when look what you made me do came out
rep is my fav album ever. she ate everyone up and didnt even blink.. bitches was pressed and I love the dark music style we don't get enough of it sadly made me feel like a bad bish
I love rep more every time I hear it and I'll never get tired of watching the tour movie. It's definitely top 3 in her discography.
Huge fan. And I'm now a fan of yours!
call it what you want and new year’s day are favorite song off the album
I love your So It Goes... analysis, that song is so dear to me because it is very implicit and sublime.
Like some of y'all said - it's actually a mature love album.
Dress, King of My Heart and Call It What You Want a Top-Trio ❤️
I really appreciate you covering this.
For me the Reputation album was a love letter written in black ink.
Great video as always, Naomi! I've been waiting for an analysis on Reputation - I love this album and I listened to it so much while writing my thesis, it helped me get through it.
This album helped me thru college too lmao!!
I would love to see a Lady Gaga eras analyzed!! Love your channel
Thank you! And more Gaga eras will be coming
My favorite part of the era is when the full call was leaked 😮💨
great video as always, reputation is the best album of taylor today, so diverse, so vulnerable and courageous, I love it and I will never get bored of it
"Some viewed the album as a cashgrab."
>1989 has collectible polaroids randomly packaged with the album
>Reputation has collectible magazine editions
>Lover has 4 deluxe versions
>Folklore has 7 alternate covers
>You have to buy Midnights 4 times to make a clock and a 5th time for the 3am bonus tracks
Taylor wouldn't possibly try milking her fans for money.
Reputation is her best complete album in my opinion. It’s so well crafted and builds on itself in ways her other albums don’t. I only skip Look What You Made Me Do 😂
It’s always so surprising to me that it didn’t get nominated for Grammies. Great video!
i'm not really a taylor swift fan but i loved her reputation album. it was just different
only three tracks exuded the revenge side: i did something bad, LWYMMD, TIWWCHNT. it's highkey a missed opportunity she didn't go all in on the revenge aspect of this album.
I remember when rep came out I didn’t like the album - not because I wasn’t a ‘Stan’ but because it was so different to the country sound I loved at the time. Now? It’s one of my favourite albums.
And also, have always will always be #TeamTaylor. Kanye who? 🐍
My favorite Taylor Swift album, as a pop fan. It was EVERYTHING I wanted from her.
Getaway Car is about Taylor meeting Tom Hiddleston at the Met Gala when she was still with Calvin.
Hey thanks for clearing this up
I feel like Rep lately has been an album that a lot of people, myself included, wasn't into at first but years later end up really enjoying it and acknowledging it as such an iconic era for her
I got to agree gurl. This is one of her top albums that I listen to. It’s hard to pick a fave of hers but I return to this album all the time. This album was absolutely essential for her. It healed her from all the drama. She had to get it out no matter what people said (hence reputation) . She took back control with this album. Very good review!
Thank u and yesss I think this was such an important era for her. Like what was she supposed to do, act like none of it happened
finally a taylor video 👏👏👏👏 was so excited for this
yea I’ve brought her up in so many other vids now she finally has her own lol
@@naomi.cannibal i'm so happy! i love this video so much especially how in-depth you go about her era & actually explain it , not a lot i've seen other creators do! absolutely loved this vid
@@nebulafeelsbetter im so glad! thank you!
Thanks for compiling everything in this video and reminding me of how good that album is
love the video! you should do evermore analysis since it’s easily her quickest and most forgotten
This album made me a Swifite like I got her after listening to it and i was so surprised how many people hated it. 💔
Reputation is Taylor ICONIC era like everything she did on this album the music video the songs the fashion the tour ICONIC
I blame the Grammy's for snubbing Reputation and then Taylor not continuing with the angst we loved so much
This era is way too overhated. And if you're just there to enjoy and listen, most songs are actually fun shallow bops.
REPUTATION is her best album.
Yeah like ofc I really like 1989 but this is the album that made me actually pay attention to Taylor’s music beyond the radio hits
when you said rep is a no skips album i clapped so hard bcos you are sooooo right. i love this video!
♥️💕💕🖤🐍🐍🐍 thanks bestie
I really enjoyed your analysis of Reputation. Ifell in love with T.Swift's music the first time I heard Tim McGraw in 2006 and after 1989, I could not wait for another Pop album. When I first heard Reputation I was disappointed, and wasn't sure if I like dark Taylor, but it grew on me and today it is the album I play most.
lol I think I first heard Our Song on the radio when I was like 10 and thinking it was the cutest song ever. Reputation is still my fave!
Reputation is my fav album, hands down
Reputation was an awesome album, I remembered when it came out, it deserved more success 😍
Reputation is one of my favourite eras
Reputation era's snake emblem is fuckin iconic! That giant snake in the stadium tour is still one for the touring history books 😌💖💖💖✨✨✨✨🔥🔥🐍🐍🐍🐍
Yesss Naomi so excited for this video!!!!
keep slaying with these videos ❤
Absolutely 🫡
@@naomi.cannibal 👑💕
Gosh reputation it's my favorite Taylor's album so far, the amaizing production mixed with her vocal ability it's everything for me
while we are talking about these eras, nicki's 'queen' era would be good to talk about in my opinion
Doing a nicki one for next months eras analyzed!
@@naomi.cannibal , it's very well needed considering how 'queen' was lowkey sabotaged in my opinion...
I loved this as a teenager
Yesss, the black and white ratatatattaa album
Imagine how big Rep TV will be when it releases compared to how it was initially received
imo this was taylor's ARTPOP era
The pfp I-
I love your channel:) The video format and editing is so good. It's interesting to watch, but I don't miss anything important if I listen while driving, either.
Thank uuuu
Style from The Rep Tour EATS WAY TOO HARD😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Visually stunning your imo
I wasnt a fan of Taylor before but when I watched rep I instantly turned into a swiftie. Been supporting her since, I dont care what other people think. Bought all of her albums and a lot of her merch too. Cant wait to see her in concert this august!
Where are my So It Goes… fans!?
