... as far as I know, Jackson Browne is the only Musician humble enough to write & perform a song thanking "The Roadies" for all of the work they do in setting things up and tearing things down for the Band. Take care Harri... Cheers...
Apparently during the covid lockdown they obviously couldn't play live, so jackson paid all of the musicians and roadies full wage out of his own pocket!. In my opinion the greatest singer/ songwriter of all. I've been a huge fan since I was 12 years old. Please come to England again ASAP!!
100% agreed. THE greatest singer songqriter ever. Nobody can hold a candle to Late For The Sky, The Pretender, For Everyman, Running On Empty, Hold Out.
The falsetto near the end is sung by David Lindley, who plays the "lap steel" which has that country sound. The female vocalist is Rosemary Butler. Both of them hit it out of the park.
Young man. I am a 64 year old musician. I watch a lot of reaction videos and you're the first I've seen applaud and give a standing ovation. This was my first time watching one of your videos but you have a new fan and a new subscriber. Peace!
David Lindley, The really high falsetto. Who played for Jackson Browne for years also Linda Ronstadt and many others, and formed his own band his own band David Lindley and El Rayo X.
I sat in the 4th row at the Civic Auditorium in Omaha during Jackson Browne's Running On Empty tour. He ended the show with this song. We were on our feet!
Jackson is one of my favorite musicians love him. Saw him with Bonnie Raitt at the tower theater outside Philly. Acoustic guitars it was Awsome love Bonnie too. Might see if he’s playing in Atlantic City this summer. My family has a seashore house and we love going to go to concerts. Now my sons are 32 and 41 they love my music. Love going with them. Great memories!
This was recorded live at the beautiful outdoor venue of Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland during the summer of 1977 or 1978. I was working a summer job at the box office both those years and had the privilege of seeing this performance live from 7th row center seats. Incredible!
This is such a great tribute by Jackson Browne to the guys that work so hard for so little because they just love being a part of it. I truly love this performance. Such a fantastic "every man's" songwriter.
Thanks for taking me back to 1978. When I’m listening to the music of the day, I don’t feel one day older than I did then. (This avatar pic is me in 1976. I know, I’m showing my age! I actually saw the Bee Gees Live in 1979 in Providence, R. I.)
My introduction to Jackson Browne was in 1974 and I was snowed in (blizzard) at a drilling rig in Quebec and I had 2 cassette tapes left by a co-worker - Jackson Browne & For Everyman. I have been a dedicated fan ever since and I can never get enough of his music.
The entire album was about life on the road. Running On Empty is one of the best albums of the 1970s. Rosie, the title track,, The Load Out/Stay, You Love the Thunder.... - front to back it's lovely.
Actually, The Load Out is about what are called the “Roadies”, or Road Crew that sets up all of the equipment, instruments, assorted lighting, etc before the show and then tears it all down and packs everything up after the show. The Roadies travel with the band throughout the tour on buses and by air. They are the unsung hero’s of every band’s tour and Jackson dedicated this song to all of them.
Jackson Brown is one of those artists, like Ms. Aretha, whom you just don't turn the channel on, or turn the radio off when they're on. You just don't.
This whole album is one of the most beautiful and under rated albums. The whole thing is a document. And perfect all the way through.!! Recorded all while on tour in some way.some in hotel room some in green room some in concert . One even on t😮he " silver eagle." Bus. Hear it in background
@@b1bmsgt Most of the roadies making minimum wage are LOCAL and hired by the venue. It helps if you know what you're talking about. The traveling roadies make good money.
You know an artist is well known when the crowd cheers after only a few notes played. I've seen Jackson a few times in concert. He's still one of my favorite artists as is Bob Seger. Their music has gotten me through a lot of life. ♪♫
Was in that biz for 10 years. Got to do a couple shows with him after Running on Empty came out. Those of us that did all the behind the scenes work for these shows really loved this song. Spot on.
This has always been my favorite song by him...Paying tribute to the people that set up everything before and after his shows...And the band too...And the audience.
I'm going to NYC in July to see Jackson. I've been to 100's of concerts but have never seen him live. I go to NYC about every two years to see a special concert. The Covid lockdown had me on hold, so I'm real excited to get back to NYC for his show.
Thank you for acknowledging the “Stay” tribute to Frankie Valli! I’ve listened to a few “reaction “ videos of this wonderful song (one of my all-time favorites). And, you are the ONLY one who actually knows the origin of the unique vocal style of “Stay “. I love you for that and your thoughtful review. ❤😉
He is a beautiful singer/songwriter/performer. I was so blessed to see him with Joe Walsh in Santa Fe NM at a No Nks concert when I was 16 yrs old back in 1981. I had been a fan since I was a young girl because my sister had all of his albums and took me with her to that concert. His voice is so haunting, and I believe it's because it's a real picture of his heart. Thanks for this great reaction video!
Jackson Brown songs I love: Rock Me on the Water The Pretender Tender is the Night Your Bright Baby Blues Linda Paloma Love needs a Heart Well to be honest, there is not one that dont love.
20 yrs ago or so. I'd sing with the radio when this came on the radio. If my dog was around it would look at me funny as I went Falsetto my now EX-wife said it was in harmony as well. That dog would go NUTS.
Jackson Browne is such an exquisite talent. Beautiful voice, great pianist and amazing songwriter. And he wrote a lot of fantastic material when he was still in his teens and early twenties. Just wonderful stuff. Great choice!🌺✌️
For context, the song 'Stay' was written and recorded by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs in 1960. Jackson Browne changes a few lyrics to fit his purpose and makes for a great melodic segue one song into another. Here's link to the original Zodiacs recording ua-cam.com/video/P2BJUGJR5fw/v-deo.html Thanks for posting Harri, all the best!
Harri, you nailed it . I've seen reacters who don't have a clue what this song (or the falsetto) is about. They seem to think David Lindley is trying to sound female. They may not have the history to know who Franky Valle and the four seasons were. Jackson wrote the Eagles' first hit "Take It Easy", and collaborated on many others.
What a beautiful time for music.. that early 70s , Los Angeles, singer song writer scene was the deepest ever. Jackson brown, the eagles, Fleetwood mac, linda rondstat.. the list goes on and on.. . Poetry and deeply introspective lyrics set to world class music . I know folks say this all the time... but compare the top 10 songs of 1975 to the songs of 2021-22... w.a.p. was number 1 for 6 weeks. Sad

perhaps the only star ever to give a musical kudos to his roadies

A genius song…and he has a genius song called “ The Pretender”… Fire.
Yes, “The Pretender” …. Wonderful ❤️
That's the beautiful, powerful and fabulous Rosemary Butler singing back up.
David Lindley falsetto
The falsetto near the end is sung by David Lindley, who plays the "lap steel" which has that country sound. The female vocalist is Rosemary Butler. Both of them hit it out of the park.
Yes they did !
Yep, seems almost like Lindley can play any stringed instrument you set in front of him. He is a genius.
David Lindley, Jackson Browne's secret weapon.
David Lindley - Mercury Blues!
David never gets enough credit

No it’s two songs. Stay by Maurice Williams and the Zodiac’s was recorded in 1960, but Jackson Browne weaves them together seamlessly.

I attended this concert-definitely did not disappoint!!

I really like how he gives a shout out to the road crew who are there first and the last to leave.
WOW!!!
Absolutely fantastic.
Jackson Brown is one of those artists, like Ms. Aretha, whom you just don't turn the channel on, or turn the radio off when they're on. You just don't.
Gives me goosebumps every time they go into Stay. Jackson Browne always transports me back to the 70's
My goosebump line is when he says to make sure everything else is packed and ready to go "before you come for my piano."
I saw him in 1978 in Cincinnati. He has so many great songs.
Harri, other classics from this great singer/songwriter- "Running On Empty", "Doctor, My Eyes" and "The Pretender" !!
Lives in the Balance, Lawyers in Love,
Late for the sky.
Before The Deluge and Somebodies Baby
These are all great. Jackson B. Has a very unique voice and style. More please!
He wrote a couple for the Eagles I believe too. Could be wrong , I know he was close with those guys.
This is the kindest song ever written.
Jackson Brown one of the best lyricists
The female backup singer is Rosemary Butler.

Tender is the night, In the shape of a heart, Running on empty
I ran into Jackson 2 years ago at a grocery store in Maryland. He was really nice and took a picture with me in the cereal aisle.
One of my absolute favorite singers!
Jackson Browne loved his roadies so much , he immortalized them in a hit song
...and paid them minimum wage...

One of my all-time favourite songs
"The Pretender"---very pleasing musically, but a lyrical masterpiece. As deep as the Atlantic and Pacific combined.
One of my favorites. I sing it all the time.
Love this song !!
Running on empty, In the shape of a heart gotta be next please. Jackson Brown has lots of great songs
i love it that it is your first time hearing this. OMG.
Just great one of my all time favorites
The whole "Running On Empty" album is brilliant from beginning to "The Load Out" end.
David Lindley (lap steel, falsetto vocal) is a legend in his own right. He's an absolute monster and if it has strings, he can play it.
I remember this song so well, always loved the tenderness of the plea to stay for one more song. And, lol, Frankie Valli. Peace from Ohio …

"Doctor, My Eyes" should be your next Jackson Browne listen. That whole album (Saturate Before Using) is great.
The incredible bit in the middle by Jesse Ed Davis is as close to a perfect guitar solo as I can imagine.
RUNNIN ON EMPTY GREATEST ROCK SONG EVER

I saw him in concert in 1997 in Sartatoga springs NY (where he recorded this years earlier) and it was one of the best shows I have seen.
Stay, is a classic stage song. It is part of the song, like Golden slumbers is part of the Beatles medley (and a classic English lullaby)
It's technically 2 songs but it really works best when played as one. I love the gratitude to his crew AND his audiences. I've always loved this song.

It has a certain magic that no other song can muster.
This is a very special performance. Humans very rarely exceed themselves. I think this is a live look at a man vastly exceeding himself.
