GOSLINGS ATTACKED by HERONS CROWS and SEAGULLS

- the Mute Swan cob doesn't want the Canada Geese raising their goslings on his lake. Whenever he sees them he chases them out of the water. The geese can easily flee but the goslings can't and become separated from their parents. Isolated, the goslings cannot survive for long and are an easy target for the Seagulls, Herons and Crows..
1) This GREY HERON has a nest nearby and two hungry chicks to feed. He prefers to stand in shallow water and wait for a fish to swim by but today he does not have the patience to wait. His babes are hungry and he has spotted a gosling on its own. He perches on a park bench to take a closer look and waits for it to come nearer but it seems to be moving away from him. He swoops down and lunges at it before it gets too far away and manages to pick it out of the water without too much trouble.
2) This CARRION CROW cannot swim and isn't usually seen near the water. It notices that the swan and geese are having a heated argument and boldly walks up to where they are. The crow isn't afraid of either of these birds even though they are much bigger, it can move much quicker and swifter than they. It behaves like an opportunist thief as it stoops down and pulls a gosling out of the water, whilst the geese are distracted. The geese are horrified and honk in despair but the crow isn't bothered and flies off.The crow plucks the feathers from the gosling before feasting on it.
3) This LESSER BLACK-BACK GULL is at home in the water, unlike the heron and the crow, who both prefer to have their feet on the ground when they catch their prey.
These seagulls are always hovering around this lake. Throughout spring , they are constantly trying to snatch a duckling, or a gosling, and they are experts at it. I was surprised that they were able to swallow the gosling whole.
This is the worst place for Canadian Geese to raise their young. They seem oblivious to the dangers that surround them. It is not only goslings that are being attacked but ducklings and grebe chicks too, mostly by seagulls. The heron and crow only get involved when the chicks come close to the land. There is no law and order in this world of birds, they can do whatever they want and get away with it. They have to survive and if that means eating another bird's chicks, then so be it. This is the way of nature.
What a great pond to bring the kids to
It's important to educate kids early about how the ''real world'' works!
@Trevour Howard lol. its nature what do u expect.
@Beren OneHand so you mean in nature there is no hunting??? Get outta here man 😂😂😂

Nature isn't nice, nature just is. And when Canada geese get to spawning a bit too prolifically, predatory birds will step it up and make sure the numbers don't get out of control. It's interesting to see the differences in behavior like the OP notices: herons stalk in and grab what it looks like is theirs by right, crows dart in, grab and fly away fast like they are stealing something. And the seagull? Now that's a Chad. Makes a snatch and misses, so comes back and grabs a chick half it's size, and proceeds to swallow it down whole all casual-like.
This is not nature. It's a park with too many birds in too little space. And no way for the baby's to get on dry land. That's why they got seperated from their parents.
@@shiva72945 Greas most ponds are like that too. Every niche has competition and predators that's how nature is.
Is this how you seduce girls at bars? Do you ask them to accompany you to partake in prolific spawning?
@@dazediss6629 Already had my kids, thanks. Not only that, the way humans mate has absolutely nothing to do with how birds mate and only an idiot would compare them directly.

Those ducklings have better chance of surviving in a vulcano then in this lake

They are goslings not duckings. Don't you know the difference?
Yes vulcano 🌋

This perfectly explains why geese are such protective parents. Literally every other animal sees their babies and thinks “damn, that looks delicious.”
When the crow attacks. 1:48.
Mother goose: "Give me back my kid!"
Crow fly 5 meters away with the gosling.
Mother goose: "Ah screw it, that's too far. You can have him."
Hahaha
Geese (and also ducks and swans) lay many eggs for this very reason: they count on the number so that at least a small part of the chicks can reach adulthood. The single chick is expendable, if saving it requires too much effort or endangers the other chicks (which would be left unprotected and exposed to other predators).
she must not be far away from her other children, otherwise she will lose her other children for someone else.
That was the male not the female
Depressing
3:07 I have a new level of respect for seagulls....
Plot twist: the swan separates goslings from parents gets a commission for each kill.
Aww, why can't people be more like animals, see how they get along?! Nature is so beautiful!

These geese are terrible parents. Good parent geese will keep goslings close to them at all times and defend their children at all costs
Think about it. Those baby geese would have lived a better life on a farm, being raised for slaughter. At least they would have lived to adulthood. Nature isn't a Disney movie, it's a horror movie.
I wonder if vegans are hurt by this video. They're always the most offensive type.
@@Ascend777 people go vegan not because eating animals is wrong but to stop factories from making animals suffer till they get slaughter by the shitty enviroment they offer them.this video isnt offensive and everyone could be sad watching this. However its how life works
That's nonsense. In the meat industry, geese are killed at 10 weeks old. They are juveniles, similar to 2 or 3 year old humans. Female geese start laying at 2 years of age on average. When animals are farmed for meat, they are usually killed as either juveniles or adolescents. They only live to adulthood if they are used for breeding. And even then, they get killed when they are too old (not necessarily sterile, but old enough to hurt their reproductive success).
And even if the farm was a better living condition than the wild, that does make it OK. Imagine if people captured humans and bred them as slaves, and the slaves had a better life than many humans as they were fed properly and didn't have to worry about money, education or work. And most of them were desexed, reducing their sexual/romantic desires significantly so they didn't have to worry about that, and were happy being virgins and single. They never had to die slow, painful deaths because they would be euthanised if they were severely ill, whether they liked it or not. And they were lead to believe that their owners were good and weren't exploiting them, so that they would not rebel or suffer. They didn't feel like they weren't free, for they were free range.
What happens to animals in the wild doesn't justify keeping them in capitivity. Even if they have a better life in capitivity, because domesticated animals are bred, not taken from the wild. And animals taken from the wild have a worse life in capitivity. And breeding animals in capitivity is really bad for the environment and wildlife.
Another thing is that the geese in the video are Canada geese (Branta canadensis). Domestic geese are Anser anser domesticus, with a few breeds being Anser cygnoides domesticus instead. So perhaps I should have compared the lives of the slaves to chimpanzees rather than other humans. If wild animals were farmed for meat, their meat would probably taste gamey, as livestock have been domesticated for meat.
You can't be fr? Are you actually saying domestic life is better for wild animals? There are a bunch of reasons wild life is way better but i will name one.If every animal born in this world didn't die. every species would be like us humans.Over populated and the imbalance would be MUCH bigger
As it should be
I wonder if these were first time parents. They seem pretty lost at how to keep their chicks together and safe. That said, I'm sure that swan could've put a whooping on both of them easily, so perhaps they were wise to stay out of its way...
Swans are bullies. There are other videos of them really hurting the geese and young. Also other Swans pick on weaker swans. I thought they were peaceful birds.
@@Danny-mg1huthey are as long as you keep out of their way
@@Danny-mg1huSwans are what geese think they are. Geese are bullies with very little bite for their bark. Swans are actually big enough to at least somewhat back up their threats.
Bad neighborhood to raise kids
If I was a goose on that lake,I'd move!it's as safe as the African Savannah at night!
there's nowhere to move
I've seen herons killed and eaten by eagles and heron nestlings taken away by hawks and owls. It's a dog-eat-dog etc... There are videos on YT showing gulls swallowing rabbits so I wasn't therefore too surprised that one could swallow a gosling. I was surprised a little, however, by the way the crow held the gosling with one foot and then started plucking it like a true raptor.
I agree fully about the crow I was kind of surprised he hold it and later put surgery on the gosling
@@thereelblackkat human eat bird
Crows will often use their feet to hold food items in place so it’s easier to peck at/pluck. However they do not carry things with their feet as I see in lots of media. Often times I’ll see crows carrying things with their feet when shown in most media. However crows do not do this and usually carry things in their beak not with their legs while flying
Very bad day for these two goose parents. You can see the distress they’re in.
Last spring was a nightmare for all the parent geese, none of their goslings survived.
I’d say their goslings were in more distress…
Este parece un buen barrio para criar a nuestros hijos...
(1:48) Goose screams.
What kind of people would stand by looking at a defenceless baby bird being taken a killed. If a dog or person was doing this, we would be straight in to help, but not here, why not !.
The Gull eats the Gosling?! I'm sorry but WTF?
They eat whole pigeon sometimes.
So whenever a gosling is taken, do the adults always sound like saxophones being played the wrong way?
as soon as i saw heron i knew it was all over for chicky
That's what happen when we build artificial environnement that ''invites'' species from other natural habitats. At least it involved natives species. Introduced mute swans have been fucking up North America's lakes and ponds for a while. There have been eradication attempts in Ontario since they outcompete native ducks.
Oh no! I felt sad for the mother goose. Please LEAVE me alone. I need to study and strategize how to protect my kids next time.
That Crow is just a pure Bastard.
Should of saved the chicks

Good. Canadian Geese need some form of crowd control.

That Swan helping heron and crow to get goslings
remember kids. don't take invitation for a meal by a stranger
Geese stupidity at it's finest .... attacking humans who are harmless , con mucho gusto , but defending their babies ....meh ..nope ... we'll lay another eggs
Life isn't a Disney movie things have to die its only natural. On that point natural vs nature, were one of those words defined by the other? Hmmm. We can't save every life on this planet everything is finite. Being the smartest being on this planet humanity either can't understand that or just won't. Ignorance is bliss until everything goes to shit.
Hopefully this time the geese learn from their mistakes and actually guide their goslings to a safe spot when they are chased by the swans instead of just panicking and flying away leaving the goslings in open water where they are vulnerable
It's difficult for the geese to protect their young.
On land, crows, magpies and herons are all looking for an opportunity to snatch a gosling.
In water, the sea gulls are always hovering above looking for an opportunity to swoop down and snatch one.
I absolutely love Canada Geese their was always a mated pair that always laid their eggs at the back of my school on a little island we had at the back and it was fenced in. That's how i started to love Canada Geese
If u play roblox feather family is for u u can become every bird not all
Props to them birds
Killing them asshole baby birds. Good riddance.
You’ve clearly had very limited exposure to them. I’ve worked a lot of landscaping jobs and run into major flocks often. These geese go out of their way to exterminate the young of any birds that live in the area. They will chase these birds down, even when they are keeping well away from the geese, and systematically kill every duckling they see, usually by grabbing them and slamming them around or otherwise brutalizing them.
As a result, I have no sympathy anymore for geese and strongly feel that turnabout is fair play.
There are too many Canadian Geese everywhere, Thank you herons, swans, hawks. No thanks to Crows.
Hmmmm idea for Canada geese proofing loopholes coming up
Mwahahaha
As much as I hate geese I felt bad for the defenseless goslings

THESE Goose Parents did

I'm very angry and sad for
I couldn't help and rescue
these cute goslings...😠😖...
Whenever the swan sees Canada geese with goslings in the water, it chases the parent geese out of the water. It doesn't allow the parents to be in the water with their goslings. This leaves the goslings alone and they are easily picked up by the sea gulls, crows and herons. Goslings have no chance of survival in this water with this swan on the lake.
seriously recording not even trying to save the ducks and giving them a chance at life that is just sad
This made me sad

The swan in this video left the lake in November 2021 and didn't return. The cob swan that is there now seemed to be less aggressive towards the young geese last spring, so life may be improving for them.

not just canadian goslings . I am surpised there are any ducks left . Gulls ,and crows do not have the fear of predation anymore. the odd Sparrow hawk will take one but Goshawks and eagle owls need to be re introduced to take out these merciless killers As for Heron they will kill anything.
The video here I think is an extreme case. The combination of inexperienced goose parents, and a territoriality aggressive mute swan provided this opportunity.
Experienced goose parents not only protect most, if not all their goslings, the most successful ones even adopt(sometimes forcefully) other goslings and form gang broods.
The window for eating goslings is pretty small as well. They practically double in size in less then two weeks.
Eagle owls are a European bird, this video is from North America.
So geese will be more brave about attacking humans than they will other birds... pretty weird. Quite honestly birds are gross creatures.
2:07 i wouldn't like to be that crow
tbh but If Heron, Crow and Seagull Would Team up Together they would just steal every single baby birds in the pond and eat them
I agree and the Swan doesn't know that it is helping them.
l was looking for a video to find out what would have taken the gooslings at our farm, as 3 were missing yesterday, there is only 1 left, l bet it will have disappeared by tonight. Geese are such bad parents, they hiss at us but aren't capable of keeping an eye on their chicks, too busy eating grass and parading in the pond making noise. l have no respect for geese, they are bullies and terrible parents. Stupid geese. You know what they do as well? They hiss at each other, there is a split between the geese, one group (mostly ganders) are keeping away from the group with the other ganders and the 2 mother geese. You think they would band together to protect the gooslings, but no. Such idiots.
Anyway, it could be heron, crow, seagull , or large predatory bird or any pole cat type animal which got them. l am glad it isn;t necesserally the crows. l like the crows...
Geese seem to be naive, they don't realise who their enemies are. There are lots of suspects. If it was a seagull, or heron, they are likely to have swallowed the whole gosling, leaving no trace of it. The crow in my video plucked the gosling and took a couple of bites and left the remains. If there is a bird lurking and eyeing up your remaining gosling, I think you are likely to notice it. If the culprit is a sneaky animal, like a stoat or weasel, they may be more difficult to spot. Anyway, I hope your little gosling survives.
C'è se le mamme di oca non prottegono i figli poi nell ultima clip c era un oca affianco mentre il piccolo stava morendo
damn this is the worst day of that goose's life
Lets point the finger to the biggest villain there - the fucking swan who started it all!
Yes, the swan created the chaos. The crow, seagull and heron are only following their natural instinct.
Mmm that’s a big meal for a seagull
The person who takes the video of a duck being eaten by a crow is a devoid of humanity, you have no conscience... my question is why didn't you save the poor little duckling?
It would be unfair to take the gosling from the crow and throw it into the water so that the heron, or seagull, could eat it.
I dug the iris shot intro and exit.
If only the mother had been there to protect her baby
Or if the humans weren't there to throw bread in the water. If that didn't happen, these ducklings had grown up in nature or a safer place.
@@Zerg435 The heron, crow and seagull would still have eaten those chicks anyway. In fact the people throwing the bread crumbs gave a little more time for the geese to react.
@@cognitivedissident2881 No, they are distracting them with unhealthy food. If people were not feeding them, they would be somewhere in nature with more possibilities to hide.
Considering all the crap left from the Geese, I'm fine with some meeting a nasty demise!
Canadian geese are just feathery rats.
Would be cool to show a vegan person this video.
If you’re recording then, why are you doing not doing nothing
These birds are behaving naturally. They need to eat to survive. They like goose, I prefer chicken.
Seeing this makes me think why some Bird races are not extinct. I guess usually parents are able to protect the chicks much better.
The main problem for the geese is the swan, he won't allow them to raise their young in this lake. He constantly attacks the geese whenever he sees them with their young. If the swan wasn't there, the geese wouldn't be separated from their goslings and would be in a far better position to protect them against the predatory birds.
Bird races lol.
Most of these goslings could have been saved if the geese parents showed what they are reputed to be.
That’s all it is though, reputation. They are all bark and no bite. Most animals larger than them, humans included, can pretty much instantly rag doll a goose if they decide they’re not going to be intimidated.
As more people are starting to say, swans are what geese think they are, so it was pretty interesting to see a swan tormenting adults and picking off goslings.
How can you love animals ?
At least someone could save them
It's nature, if you can't take nature for what it is watch something else.
How? let those three birds starve? the heron had chicks to feed, grow up, nature is not Disney.
Life is mean, brutish and short.
This lake is a bird warzone
This park is a war zone for food
Very funny!
You may want to protect those chicks, but over population is a problem.
Unfortunately, these chicks cannot be saved. The swan (cob) doesn't tolerate geese raising their young on this lake and when he attacks the geese, the chicks become isolated and vulnerable to predators.

This is basically a hunger games arena. The geese adults are so domesticated that they loose their natural aggression
2:15 I wouldve helped, nature has fallen anyway
Even if it was somehow not fatally injured by that point, the parents wouldnt keep it. Birds think nothing of abandoning weakened offspring amd some species will actively encourage their death.
