  • Step by step, we'll sculpt, prune, and restore his overgrown rosemary hedge, ultimately freeing it from a stranglehold of ivy! This cottage garden is in Southern California USDA zone 10, so I paid close attention to FIRESAFETY considerations.

In this video I wore my favorite GLOVES: UPF 50 Garden Gloves by Foxgloves, Inc. I’ve been using these gloves for over 10 years and LOVE everything about them, including the colors and affordable price. Despite constant use, mine last for years and years. They keep my hands clean and protect my skin against sun damage. The company is USA owned, founded by an amazing woman!

A light might be good in that spot because of it being near stairs. That is one big rosemary!

Safety first! I think it's at least 4 plants all together.

I have a 3-year old rosemary that I planted alongside some lavender and thyme, and now it's massive and totally crowding out its companions. I haven't done much pruning, so it's become very woody and I'm not sure how or if it's even possible to reign it back in. Should I just take some cuttings and start over in a new location, free of other plants? Because otherwise, I'll always be fighting for space with this guy.

Hi. Great idea to take cuttings. Most woody herbs eventually decline so you're doubly smart. Best of luck!

Did the long branches that were pruned close to the main branches do ok? Did it force new growth?

I've seen some sprouting but too early to tell if they'll get enough light to grow well.
