This was fun to watch. I had actually visited Boston shortly before starting this game. Noticed the similarities you call out here. It was really cool when I got into the city in the game. The detail/design was close enough to the real Boston that I could navigate in the game just fine. Scale was different, of course, but I was impressed how close it was! Fallout 3 did a pretty good job of DC back in the day, too.
I'm wondering if the water table rose a bit. Liberty Rd IRL is pretty close to where the smaller creek is between Sanctuary and the vault is. Also, if you dive in the lake to the east, there are a number of vehicles in it.
Very interesting. As a Fallout 4 player who spent hundreds of hours building up Sanctuary into a town on ps4, I really enjoyed this video. Beautiful mixture of history, geography, passion to the game and I must say, quite a fortuitous series of events to befriend an ESO-loving Sheriff who brought you on a promenade! Tallyho, good sir.
Yes, the first shots were fired at daybreak in Lexington, the militia had been warned of the British forces planned march from Boston to the Concord to confiscate munition stores. Paul Revere and Samuel Prescott made their famous ride the night before to warn the militia of the impending British arrival and for the munitions to be moved, they told the militias a warning would be given in the old north church tower of a candle light, "one if by land two if by sea". On the morning of April 19th, 1775 the British began there march and a small detachment of Miltitia fired on British regulars at Lexington, outnumbered and outgunned they would fall back quickly without a real fight and the British regulars would continue their march toward Concord, later that morning at the old North Bridge outside of Concord beside sanctuary, a force of 400 militia would fire the shot heard round the world on a small detachment of 100 British regulars attempting to cross the bridge starting what could be considered the first real battle, with casualties on both sides, outnumbered and stunned the British detachment would fall back to Concord to rejoin the larger force of British regulars. With word of the battle and because of the sound of the gun shots militia began to flock to Concord and the British forces while larger in number and better equipped found themselves surrounded and could not see many of the militia forces who were hidden amongst the trees along side the road, the British forces began to retreat back to Boston under heavy gun fire from forces the could not see or identify since many of the militia lacked uniforms and were simply dressed like farmers and towns people. Reinforcements would arrive to help the British regulars once back in Lexington but stunned and unprepared for the Militia defient stand they were only able to hold them off and retreat to Boston, giving the unlikely Mass. Militiamen and unexpected victory in the first battle of the revolutionary war. It would set the precedent for the kind of guerilla war to be fought, one that many of the British regulars were unaccustomed to compared to the militiamen many of whom were veterans of the French and Indians wars.
Got Fallout 3 as a kid, I lived not far from the Germantown police headquarters. Found the hill that my house was on in game. I could play in my backyard in the game, then go play the game in my backyard. And yes I once played in the yard in the game while in the yard.
A little thought to not ruin the lore, you have to remember that Fallout 4 is set in the fifties. I mean yes, the 𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘦 is "2077", but the storyline is set in the fifties. So to stay lore-friendly, you could just imagine that they; completely remodeled Sanctuary Hills itself; expanded concord; took down the big old clunky pylons, and replaced them with a more modern, eco-friendly alternative; etc., etc., etc.
"You guys only have 300 years of history..." We Native Americans (So called 'Indians') forgive you... I know my tribe has been in California for about 8000 years...-ish. Still, great video :)
That was probably a stellar experience for you ESO, feel do I. A couple things to note that the "pre-war" video is set in 2077. That is almost sixty years into our future. The game could be considered like Nostradamus in the future, for all we know. Six decades can see a LOT of changes to an area. You remarked that it was a "historical landmark" and thus open to the public. That means U.S. Law would have been fine with Bethesda digitizing the entire park down to each blade of grass... so long as they had permits and such to operate any equipment they needed to use in the area. But the "design" of the area is far from privatized. Being a public park makes it one of the most open areas that exist in America. Them placing the minuteman statue outside of the estates area is probably to help players from assuming they 'had' to be a part of the minuteman. I mean if it was right in front of my character's house? It already is a big emotional impact with it being right across the bridge, but putting it in front of Nate's house... that would have been next level. As for the possibility in our timeline of a Sanctuary Hills 'Estates' even existing, it is certainly plausible, believe do I. The government is privatizing "public" lands constantly. They probably would avoid touching the minuteman monument but the entire field of grass around it is abundantly fair game to a politician's mind, think do I.
Nice video, ESO ive watched pretty much every video youve pit out on this channel. I just wanted to thank u for making videos they really help me with skyrim and getting through my daily life. Keep going!!

It took watching this again to remind me that I can go see what's located at the Old North Church used by the Railroad. See what's located at Swans Pond. Maybe even see if the location has a bar where the ingame Cheers is. Thanks again ESO.

10:10 this guy probably never played fallout ... 1st : preston gravy.. really.. 2nd: how the hell did he think everybody who played fallout 4 was going to make a treehouse out of that
I used to work at that National Park! The NPS spent a lot of money buying up the land around there - it took 'em like five or six decades, but they managed to basically restore the area to how it (more or less) looked in 1775 (though the area around the North Bridge is closer to 1830 or so.) I'd imagine that, in the Fallout universe, they cared a bit less about historical preservation, hence the nearby housing development and vault in the game. But yeah - it was crazy playing the opening level and realizing "Oh my god, one of the biggest storytelling moments in all of video gaming *basically* took place at my old job!" I would have loved to have started my tours with "Welcome to Minute Man National Park - or, as some of you know it, Sanctuary City..." The geography of downtown Concord doesn't quite shake out, but - designwise - it looks a LOT like it.
And yeah - one of the first things I realized was that - in the Fallout universe - apparently Capt. Parker marched his militia to Concord instead of Lexington?
For the seven and a half months it took you to make that I thank you for every second you put into this. It was a story that i based my whole play through on, and you turned it into a beautiful cinematic. Amazing.

Artisankat Studios he means America as just the united states as a country, which is about 300 years
I don't think he gives a shit nor does anyone else what you descend from
And I don't give a shit about your comment. I guess we are even. At least in this way.
The other statue is in Lexington, MA which is where I live
Preston Gravy 😄😄

I know that this video is seven years old, but I have recently discovered this channel and started watching old videos, and you must imagine my shock when I am watching and I see my own father!! How have I never known that Rich (my father) took you on a tour, the dad lore just gets more and more interesting every day!!
preston gravy sounds better
Yeah I heard of this "real life-thing." They say it has great graphics, but terrible gameplay...
I live there lol
Boston or sanctuary
A better quote for the shirt wouldve been:
I need you to help this settlement.
As somone from Colorado, new england i the summer is a humid jungle just like the south. Different from the cottonwoods and dry heat hear in legion territory.
I love fallout 4, the sheriff your talking about is richard, my name is richard...... Coincidence? I think not
This is the second time I've watched this video, with almost 2000 hours in between. I'm just as impressed now as then. One thing that has come a long way is Google Street View. It took watching this again to remind me that I can go see what's located at the Old North Church used by the Railroad. See what's located at Swans Pond. Maybe even see if the location has a bar where the ingame Cheers is. Thanks again ESO.
Preston: we need help these chicken wings are getting cooked! 3 min later Preston: we need help these random people are being attacked by lvl 1 rad roaches! Another few min later Preston: this run down abandoned village with no one inside is being attacked by blood bugs! Even more min later Preston: quick the plants are being stepped on get in your t45!
10:10 this guy probably never played fallout ... 1st : preston gravy.. really..

I thank you, only game I’ve played since it came out, I’m 66 yrs , and love building…still building…
Next Video: The Jefferson Memorial (from fallout 3) IN REAL LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
anyways good video :)
But yeah - it was crazy playing the opening level and realizing "Oh my god, one of the biggest storytelling moments in all of video gaming *basically* took place at my old job!" I would have loved to have started my tours with "Welcome to Minute Man National Park - or, as some of you know it, Sanctuary City..."
The geography of downtown Concord doesn't quite shake out, but - designwise - it looks a LOT like it.
And yeah - one of the first things I realized was that - in the Fallout universe - apparently Capt. Parker marched his militia to Concord instead of Lexington?
you should go to maine, Thats were i live and it looks a lot like fallout 4 as well
:D
I hope in the future they actually decide to make that a real town.
Every American was laughing at your U.S. history not because it is wrong but because I learned this in third grade
I went to Boston and saw Diamond City( Probs. Fenway Park The Fans) their also both in the middle of the map
7:27 whas wrong wiv you... 'preston gravy' ... Geez
Legal reasons? It was rockstar basically copied Los Angeles for gta5.
Preston Gravy: Another help needs our map. I'll settlement it on your mark.
I love how the guy driving him started to criticize him for wanting to see a fictional videogame city so he mutes the video for a while
Real life looks way much better
Where's the vault?
Its Garvey by the way, but that doesn't matter, there is a settlement that needs help. Ill mark it on your map.
People in sanctuary in 2077: wow so realistic
For the seven and a half months it took you to make that I thank you for every second you put into this. It was a story that i based my whole play through on, and you turned it into a beautiful cinematic. Amazing.
what a novel and interesting post. Ahhh the good old days when everything was nice.
